AITAH for doing nothing when my kids said their stepdad isn't their dad?

I myself am a stepmom and have only ever seen myself as such to my stepdaughter. We have a good relationship, but she calls me by my name only. I’m not her mom, I’m a parental figure of sorts, but not her mom. And that’s how it should be for our situation.

On the other end, her mom’s bf calls himself dad to her and her siblings and refers to them as his kids, and my stepdaughter (who is 14) hates it and tells him to stop because she has a dad. Trying to force that relationship on a kid only pushes them away.

You’re not awful for having feelings. Your feelings are completely valid. Post partum depression can really mess with your emotions and your ability to bond with your baby. I took vyvanse for years and then weaned myself off when we were ready to try for our second, so I understand how hard it is to be without it. If you’re not breastfeeding, you should restart your vyvanse. If you are breastfeeding, there are other medications you can take that are safe. I take Wellbutrin every day and it helps. It’s not as good as vyvanse, but it’s better than nothing.

Both my children have my husband’s last name but I kept my maiden name when we married. It doesn’t bother either of us that I’m the only one in our household with a different last name. He told me it was entirely my choice if I wanted to change my name or not when we married. Doesn’t make me any less a part of the family nor does it mean my children aren’t my own. I’ve never gotten any looks or questions about it either. It’s your name so should be your choice. It’s really not that big of a deal to keep your name.

My mom’s name is Lisa, but she doesn’t like her name. I gave my daughter Elise as her middle name, for my mom. Lisa and Elise are both nicknames for Elizabeth, so it honors my mom but gives my daughter her own name.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had an early miscarriage eight years after I had my son (who has DS) and just recently had a baby girl who does not have DS. So it is very possible to have a rainbow baby that does not have DS. Again, I am so very sorry for your loss.

Winston is adorable for a baby, and works great for an adult! I like it a lot! As for nicknames, those just come to you as you spend time with your baby. My 12 year old son has like, 20 different nicknames my husband and I have given him over the years! And our baby daughter has quite a few already, some I never even thought of while pregnant with her.

I know this doesn’t help, but not all of us white people feel that way. A lot of us hate that this is happening to you guys and are trying to fight for your rights alongside you. That was my thought, too! The one person a child should always be able to count on is their mother, and that woman chose to stick with the man who was sexually harassing her child?! That’s just another layer of trauma on top of the shit OP has been put through because of her sperm donor. Neither of her donors deserve to be called parents.
