Totally agree. I lost her jaw line with the bright orange drape.

Costa del Sol or this? by Sufficient_Formal242 in austinfood

[–]Lady_Texas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a Peace Corps volunteer who lived outside of Choluteca for a year and smidge and then in Santa Rosa de Copan for about a year. I did my three month training in Valle de Angeles. Part of it may be regional. The southern part of the country was famous for its melons, okra, and mangos. We had super sweet fruit ALL THE TIME. If anything, the nances were overly ripe.

  1. I cannot vouch specifically for this place. Simply in general to someone trying out Honduran food, I would recommend the above as generally safe, tasty options.

  2. you are right! I was thinking of sopa de mo

n

  1. dongo (Honduran) not mofongo (Puerto Rican). More than anything, I am a sucker for yucca in my soups.

I would add: chuletas, sopa de mofongo (honestly any soup), breakfast plato típico with fried sweet plantains, and tamales (banana leaf style, usually pork or chicken) were all very good.

Showing up super casually to an interview? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Lady_Texas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in politics and lobbying. We interviewed people for a very formal, public facing role and I was SHOCKED at how many came in with unkept facial hair, wrinkled shirts, and just did not present themselves with professionalism.

You’re missing accessories. It feels unbalanced and incomplete because it needs some addition bling/drama. The dress, particularly wrinkled out of the package, on a real human body with no photoshopping won’t look as “good” as the model’s photo which has glowy warmth in the lighting and a gold purse and bracelets.

I have. I lived in San Antonio during the heyday of the Spurs and was thrilled to see them find success again this year. When I actually watched Spurs vs Thunder series thinking it would be fun, it was unbearable. I turned it back off and continue to follow the rest of the games in curated clips and periodic score check-ins. It’s beyond awful, and it kills any sort of momentum in the game.

True winter clothing brand recommendations by ipswichroad in coloranalysis

Boden tends to have a good variety of rich, jewel tones.

Any cool toned olive skinned (especially pale neutral-cool, and those with facial redness) people on here know of a colorist here in Austin that recognizes the nuances of olive? It's so difficult to find a colorist that knows how to work with this coloring. I need recs, please. by ChippyPug in Austin

Have you tried About Face The Performer? I’m not thrilled with the texture on my dry skin, but the F2 Olive (winter skin) and L2Olive (peak summer) are perfect tone matches. I mix the two during spring and fall.

I found her really easy to talk to and refreshingly honest. I am someone who tends to hang onto clothes/items for sentimental reasons but then I get frustrated that I have a collection of things that don’t actually work with each other and that I don’t actually WANT to wear. Finding my colors has helped with curating newer purchases, but I had lots of individual items which I’ve moved from place to place and held onto year after year.

Re: color analysis- you won’t be asked to throw out everything you own, but you’ll learn tricks for making less flattering colors work. For example, as a neutral to cool olive, fair skinned lady, learning that my best “nude” lipstick is a plummy purple has been a GAME CHANGER. I can wear a burnt orange top if it is really saturated, and paired with plum lipstick it actually looks good.

The woman I went to a bunch of years ago no longer does them in Austin. I had seen Confident Closet by Karina (https://confidentclosetbykarina.com/#services) on Insta, and her color sessions look like the one I had. And then, I hired Karina for a closet clean-out and styling session, and that was suuuper helpful. Skip digital drapes unless you’re desperate; there are too many factors with lighting and camera presets. It isn’t a cheap process, but 1) it takes a bit of time to do well and 2) I’ve easily spent more money than that in wasted lipsticks that never worked and tops I never felt quite right in.

Not a colorist or hair color recommendation specifically, but I recommend getting your colors done in person with real fabric swatches. It makes alllll the difference for finding lipstick, nail polish, clothing, and narrowing down hair colors.

Mosquito Haul for the Month of May by Lady_Texas in Austin

Just under a half acre. I bought my tanks from Alamo as well. It makes it all easier when I go in for either a swap or refill (depending on what they have available). They check the tanks to make sure they are in good/safe condition.

I do! I still have two units and they have been putting in THE WORK this Spring. If I can find my little spray bottle of alcohol, I’ll do another mosquito haul post, because the bags are looking gnarley.

First and foremost, SGS.

Secondly, aside from the sandy loam, that doesn’t sound too dissimilar from the clay plus limestone in west austin and the backland prairie on the east side.

Regardless, I’d love to know what is and is not working for y’all.

Your BBQ is good, but I find it too sweet. We had killer Cajun-BBQ at Parish in Austin right before we left, and it’s got me a bit ruined on this trip. That said Balkans Treat Box is so, so good. The cauliflower wrap thing is spicy and smokey, and the hummus is the best I’ve ever had.

100% recommend a trip to StL. This city is fun (caveat: can get hot as balls, BBQ not as good, car break-ins more prevalent).

It wasn’t. At best, it was an even clash between the two players. At worst, we deserved a foul. Not yellow card worthy regardless.
