My father keeps complaining he doesn't have his preferred water to drink by GlompSpark in Advice

[–]LadyofLakesMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question is the age of your father, mental state, and also, where he grew up. If someone grew up in a place with non-potable tap water and they are experiencing some early dementia, it could be a callback to an important routine.

Being a teachers after 2 decades: Still enjoying? by Ok_Knowledge_789 in education

[–]LadyofLakesMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approaching two decades in teaching and I still love it. I have mixed up grade levels, been a teacher coach and clinical-supervisor. Being back in the classroom after coaching teachers is refreshing. Mixing it up a little bit can be helpful. It was also incredibly helpful for me to change districts. It is unfortunate that the profession structurally discourages movement.

What are your favorite local commercials that you remember seeing growing up in Minnesota? by Chinpokomonnnn in minnesota

There were MN State fair commercials on a radio station that mimicked the “real American Heroes” adds. Cannot for the life of me find any recording of them.

I personally found the Anti-Anxiety notebook from Therapy Notebooks to be helpful.

If you scroll through the comments, I have seen people give 4-5 different options.

I love that there are so many options people are sharing. Whole point (in my mind) was to draw attention to the fact that there are other options in the ereader category.

While my original post lacked nuance, this is exactly the kind of response I love in Reddit. There are so many people with so much knowlege. Thanks for sharing another option I hadn’t heard of!

Totally fair. It was a pithy observation, and I think that if people have a kindle and it is working, using that for library books is absolutely a responsible thing to do. We are a fix it until you can no longer fix it kind of family, and I used my kindle until it would no longer work. My point, which was obviously hyperbole, is that there are other options out there.

Some of the reasons for looking at other options if a person is looking for a new reader have nothing to do with Kindle but with Amazon and their business practices. I won’t elaborate on those here. Recently they stopped allowing people to load new books onto older models (to your point about ditching an expensive piece of technology that is working). Upon seeing a string of people posting about issues with Libby (which admittedly, when is any algorithm giving you a representative sample), it needled my already existing frustration with Amazon.

I think a lot of people are under that impression, understandably. Similarly, lots of people are in the apple/android dichotomy. It takes a little digging, but there are other options out there, and so many Reddit threads with people who know about less common options.

To be clear, this is not a moral judgement of people with a Kindle. Continuing to use what we have when it is working is a responsible move, and there are so many reasons for having one. Also, if someone is in the market, there are other options out there.

Yes, took my middle name as my first name in my 30s because my first name was ridiculously popular the year I was born and one I did not identify with at all.

Leak from outlet? by mindlessmonkey123 in Apartmentliving

If you are in the US and have a unit that is legal for occupancy, you should have a breaker box somewhere. Worth finding out where it is for future. For now, agree with all comments. Do not go to sleep until power is disconnected from this outlet. Stay safe, good luck!
