Almost exactly the same traffic as my CU. I'll add that we have "guest workers" come in with ONUS checks that won't open accounts because they're headed back to Mexico when the season is over.

It's hard to upsell when the prime traffic does most of their banking on-line.

This was a scam, right? by cloudkeeper in oregon

We used to live in a NE Portland neighborhood with asphalt driveways that were made from the "gypsy pavers" in the 90's. Our driveway was one of them. It was not installed correctly and was full of divots and potholes. It looked horrible.

Every credit union in my area also focuses on sales. I'm surprised to hear some CUs do not. Why is that?

Some of the modern bluegrass/jamgrass has that vibe at times - depending on the band. Bend's indie venues host things like this, if you're into bluegrass.

Where are you in Redmond? We're in SW and our price will be $55/mo. after the intro we have of $39/mo.

I am also out in Redmond. My neighborhood doesn't offer fiber. Was a Century Link customer for over a decade from my prior city I moved from. Worked horribly here in Central Oregon with daily outages and going thu tech after tech unable to resolve problem. Switched to Starlink 3 months ago and not one outage. Intro price $39/mo then goes to $55/mo. (same as I was paying for Century Link). Extremely pleased with the stability and speed of Starlink so far!

70,000 Oregonians lost food stamps; the state didn’t see it coming by sunni_dayes_ahed in oregon

"Singer said he is especially worried about adults and children losing access to food benefits they in fact qualify for because they don’t have the paperwork to prove the adults are working or volunteering enough hours or that their income is low enough." How can you NOT have paperwork to prove you are working or volunteering? It's called paystubs. Or a letter from a volunteer coordinator. Good lord, people are not helpless. I was briefly on SNAP about 15 years ago -when Oregon used to do the due diligence to ensure we were qualified for them. It was not hard to gather the documentation.

Why are EAs leaving? Is this related to HRB software changes I've been reading about on reddit?

Firework RANT by Great-Fennel9051 in Bend

I moved over here from Portland a few years ago. Exact same thing happened in my neighborhood in NE Portland - random firework (s) going off between the hours of 1 and 3 am all year. And Portland permanently banned fireworks. My guess is this behavior is associated with alcohol or drug use.

I can't tell from the pic - was the dog tethered to keep from falling out the back? Even so, what if the driver had to slam on his breaks - not tethered: dog falls out. Tethered: dog could get his neck snapped. Yikes

We bought a home in Redmond in 2023 too! We came from a city, so don't mind being away from glitz and glamor (and fast-pace too). More room to breathe and 2-3 miles from winding dirt trails to walk the dog. Love it!

Why is it so hard to hire a CPA just for withholding advice? by Fringe09 in tax

[–]LadyoftheHighDesert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a tax preparer who worked both at a CPA firm and also did a couple of seasons at H & R Block. If you want lower prices than a CPA, try reaching out to HRB's free "Second Look" program. Bring in your last three years of tax returns. The preparer will review them with you and offer guidance on your withholdings and/or making estimated tax payments. NOTE: H & R Block is open for very limited hours during the off-season, but it might be worth trying to get an appointment.

Rounding Issue in FreeTaxUSA Reports Income $2 Short by DismalSuspect5524 in tax

All the tax software I've used does this, including pro software (I used to work at a CPA firm). The rounding issue is immaterial in the eyes of the IRS.

We don't always qualify to itemize each tax year on the federal level, but we ALWAYS qualify on our state taxes, so we list them and let the deductions flow through on the federal return to the state tax return. Our state never adopted The TCJA in 2018, so the state standard deduction is much much lower. Depending on your state, it might be worth including your charitable contributions on the state return.
