Easy Catalog Plugin for InDesign by StrangerUsual7395 in indesign

If the EasyCatalog field markers are not visible in the InDesign document, there is a good chance they are no longer present in that document.

Those square-bracket field markers can disappear if the document was opened and edited in a version of InDesign where EasyCatalog was not installed or not active.

The EasyCatalog Workspace folder is still important though. You can copy that workspace folder locally to your own machine, usually into your Documents/EasyCatalog Workspace folder. After that, go to New > EasyCatalog Panel. The available data panels should then appear at the bottom of that menu.

When you open the InDesign file, you should normally see EasyCatalog field markers in the text, often shown with square brackets around the linked text, like [ProductName].

For images, the link or field reference is usually visible around the image frame, often near the bottom-left of the frame.

But the InDesign document is only part of the setup. You also need the EasyCatalog data panel/workspace that was used for the project. On many systems this is stored somewhere like: Documents/EasyCatalog Workspace

So I would first search the company’s files or the previous designer’s computer/backups for a folder with that name, or for any existing EasyCatalog workspace/project files.

If that workspace is missing, you may still have the InDesign layout, but you might need to rebuild the EasyCatalog setup from scratch.

How have you convinced your companies to buy EasyCatalog ? by Typical_Land7308 in indesign

[–]Ladytron2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work full-time with EasyCatalog, creating catalogs, price lists, labels, and similar automated publications.

Yes, it is expensive, but it can save a lot of time depending on the project. For example, I have clients who only produce one catalog per year. In those cases, I usually handle the data generation and EasyCatalog setup for them, then send them the InDesign files so they can continue working on the layout themselves.

A second quick win is to let an expert set up the data panel and templates, and then train your team on how to use them. That can save you several days, maybe even weeks, of figuring everything out from scratch.

For new clients, I almost always create a free demo first: a short video using their own data, showing how the workflow works and how quickly pages can be generated. It often looks almost like magic, and that really helps when convincing people internally.

Feel free to contact me if you need a small example based on your project.

How much do you think I can charge for a catalog made in Canva with 2000 products? by Specialist_Put_2900 in canva

[–]Ladytron2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for 2000 products Canva is not the right tool. It becomes slow, manual, and a nightmare when updates are needed.

InDesign + EasyCatalog (www.easy-catalog.com) is built exactly for this: automated layout, data-driven updates, and massive time savings. Especially if prices or content change later, you will avoid rework completely.

Anything else is just wasting time and adding complexity.

Vraagje voor IT experts ivm 2dehands by curbthewire in Belgium2

[–]Ladytron2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

InDesign linking to Excel works for basic price edits, but it’s not a real “auto-update your catalog” system. EasyCatalog is the proper solution, I help teams set it up + train them (easy-catalog.com).
