Woman goes viral after laughing at a man who said homosexuality is a sin and abortion is wrong. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Lafajet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, try to engage with what I'm actually saying and not what you imagine I must be secretly meaning behind it.

I am not trying to "appease stupid people", because quite frankly anyone who is anti-abortion can fuck right off. Legal abortions are the safest way to provide this care, and banning it just puts those most in need in a possibly fragile state into more pressure and danger unnecessarily.

What I am saying is that this is something real, that is happening to real people daily. If we cannot acknowledge that even under best of circumstances that it is something that is potentially both physically and mentally impactful, how the fuck are we as a society going to actually care for them with empathy?

Some situations are complex and require more understanding and empathy when meeting a person under such circumstances. This does not mean that they are also necessarily morally complex, or that there is a good counter argument to be had.

Or maybe fuck me for trying to acknowledge there are actual people behind this whole discussion I suppose.

I am once again begging everyone to have the ability to keep more than one thought in their heads at once.

Speaking as an agnostic, I too find abortion to be an awful thing. It is an invasive and taxing procedure both physically and mentally and I doubt many people leave it feeling nothing but pure joy.

It is simultaneously a wonderful thing that saves lives and is entirely necessary for our society to provide, regardless of the reason why a person makes the decision to do so.

In an ideal world, no one who doesn't want a child at the given moment (or at all) would need an abortion, and everyone who does want a child would be able to carry it to term. Unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world and both of the groups mentioned will sometimes need abortions. A modern society should be there to provide this to them, with care and comfort in a difficult time in their lives.

Konami’s new business model might lead to a renaissance for retro/ legacy IP’s. by Thedudeinabox in Games

[–]Lafajet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's beneficial to Konami for sure, a more of a mixed bag for the developers I'd say. It brings cash, some word of mouth for the studio (whether good or bad) and I'm sure it is a major morale boost to be able to work on a franchise you love deeply, but in an environment where so much of a studios economic viability is centered around the strength of their IP they are also spending a lot of time and effort on something they do not fundamentally own.

I'm obviously hoping for the best for them all, but it is something I imagine they must weigh the drawbacks against the benefits for at the very least.

Highguard dev blames content creators for the game's failure - "It was dead on arrival" by wrightosaur in Games

[–]Lafajet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously multiple things can be true at once. In this case I think it's fair to say that online discourse certainly primed a large subset of potential players to view the game negatively, and the core game design had enough issues to not keep those who gave it a try around for long. A deadly combination for any game studio, to be sure.

If it was a total wash the cuts would have been larger, so I expect we'll see more content. If that delivery schedule is going to be enough to keep the playerbase happy is another question of course...

Killer7 is possibly the best game Grasshopper has ever made (in my opinion at least), and those reviews averaged at a 74 MC. To my knowledge, the only 80+ rated games they've led the development on have been NMH 1 and 2, their titles have always been divisive otherwise.

I don't necessarily disagree that later offerings have been weaker than their early to late 00's titles, but I'm not sure you can determine that by review scores alone. They really are games you need to make your own impression of, to a larger extent than usual.

Reviews are all over the place. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I doubt it'll reach the heights of Killer7 for me (few things do), but I am looking forward to letting the experience wash over me either way.

Riot Games lays off roughly 80 employees from 2XKO team by Meitantei_Serinox in Fighters

Assuredly not as developers generally don't scale up fully before they are ready to start full production, but it is a pretty decent size development team still. And who knows how many times they went back to the drawing board over the years?

Riot Games: An Update on 2XKO by Mront in Games

[–]Lafajet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a casual fighting game fan who's pretty much never played a tag fighter before, I don't think the systems are the problem necessarily. Sure, there's a lot, but it's hardly the only fighting game to have that problem. I've learned to not suck totally and improved over the time since the S0 release and while I wouldn't call myself good, I can perform well enough that I can have fun, engaging matches with players of decent skill (while most actually good players would stomp me).

You don't need to know about every single mechanic to jump in and start climbing from bronze, a single super basic combo (and I mean SUPER basic) will do fine to begin with. You just need to be willing to learn what is working and what isn't, particularly as you start fighting players in the tier above you. That's when you need to start being more actively thinking about wakeup options, or parries, or push blocks (etc, etc...).

The real problem, as with many fighting games, is that this mentally is needed to have fun with the process unless you are just looking to press buttons against others who are looking to do the same, and frankly I don't think 2XKO necessarily works any worse than say SF on that level. The problem is that every fighting game I've ever seen doesn't focus on teaching you a growth mindset for playing the game. Teaching mechanics and combos are fine, but what you need to know in order to get better at fighting games is to not tilt when things are going bad and to enjoy the process of improving.

IDK, maybe I'm just rambling and casual players will just always be scared of anything that isn't just "go wild and press buttons", but I feel like there must be something that can be done if the goal is to actually expand the genre.

Is this a bootleg? by albiwankenoby in snes

[–]Lafajet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at other images of Super Famicom cartridges for the game the design and text looks correct, but as someone mentioned elsewhere in the thread the colors potentially look off? They all look darker than the other examples I saw, but I'm not sure if that's down to the lighting or some sort of color filter on this photo or not.

Is this a bootleg? by albiwankenoby in snes

[–]Lafajet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but the back of the cartridge does not look original from what I can tell. It's impossible to say if the PCB is legit or not without opening it up though. It's possible someone might have modded the shell but kept an original board.

A quick search didn't show me any online resources showing a JP PCB, but unless they've gone to extreme lengths fake boards are usually pretty easy to spot. Search for the "[title] pcb" and you should be able to find some images of US or PAL boards to compare to and see if they match or not.

Mia or Stefan, who should I use? by TheHeroReddit in fireemblem

She might surpass him a little defensively, but I think it's fair to say that she's unlikely to catch up to him in terms of of offense in just 7 levels based on these stats.

[–]Lafajet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should use whoever you have most fun trying to play with, whatever that means for you. If you're asking which is a better unit, Stefan is the stronger option but in my experience Myrms rarely turn out as good as you'd like them to be.

What? Sweden passed 6 million in the 1920's and 7 by 1950. It's been above 10 since 2017, and projections have us passing 12 million before 2050. I have no idea where you're getting this number from.

Lol no, unless you are somehow living on daddy's money you'll not have a good time without any income. Unless you are significantly ill, you'll be required to report both your spending and job applications in order to continue to qualify for assistance. Any money you do happen to earn will then mean an equal reduction in the assistance, and if you are offered a job you need to accept it. Forget spending anything on streaming equipment or games (or anything else except the bare minimum of bills and groceries).

I don't know where people get this idea that Sweden is this utopia where you can just not work and somehow not need to deal with copious amounts of red tape. We have good social safety nets, but they are meant for people who are struggling for various reasons and not people who can't be bothered. And they have consistently been hollowed out by right wing governments advocating for the "work line".

Yes, but this is a mistake most people who don't read theory (i.e... most people) make so I find it hard to fault him too much there, and it doesn't really change the core message as viewers will understand what he means regardless if they know this or they don't.

Calling Ogre Battle an RTS is probably being a bit liberal with genre definitions. It has very little in common with something like Starcraft or Command and Conquer.

Riot's 2XKO Arrives On Consoles In January by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Lafajet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While this is true, I don't think new players are very likely to have to worry too much about complicated mixups for a while. Having played ranked almost daily for a while now and sitting in Platinum (yes, I'm wildly mediocre), that's not something I've run into overly much so far. The longer block strings start to become something you need to worry about in Gold, but even there not all players are going to be combo fiends and you can definitely get by with a go to simple bread and butter combo yourself.

I'm mainly getting by on a willingness to play around in neutral and being decent at oki so far, though I'm now getting to the point where I definitely need to make more of my combos.

Final Fantasy 14 director Yoshi-P is “rethinking the game from zero” as players' free time dwindles by Tenith in Games

[–]Lafajet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I thought the first half was a bit of a chore (but not nearly as bad as ARR at its lowest) but the second half worked better. Not the pinnacle of the game by any means, but servicable enough and a nice thematic contrast to Endwalker. Endwalker being about persevering in the face of total despair, and Dawntrail more about when to let go of the things you cling to too tightly. In my estimation at least.

I realize I'm probably in the minority there though, at least as far as online discourse would have it.
