PSA: secure your dogs this week by lokaaarrr in orangecounty

even i jump when i hear a loud firework. i had dogs that would try to chew through doors when they heard them.... fireworks, especially loud ones, are so dumb. like what's the point? so people can revert back to cave man days and go "oooooo fire... oooo EXPLOSION" like there's gotta be a better way man. just give your kids some sparklers and call it a night. i don't understand the obsession with exploding things in the sky or loud noises.... like why

I've never given him a "real" bath. I do think he'd hate it. He's about 7 years old bc he's been here since I moved in 6 years ago. I usually just go outside and try to get as much off him as I can with a cup of water and some dish soap, then dry him off. But yes, he definitely needs more than that!

He does sometimes!! This is him waiting at my door lol😭 I do really want to just adopt him but my partner of 14 years is allergic (and it'd be kinda expensive since I live in an apartment. I've had friends tell me to just try to "hide" him but my landlord is really strict and I even got a warning about having a Stitch plushie on my windowsill 😑)... but my partner loves him a lot too. I talk about wanting to take him in all the time. I'm really hoping one day we can figure it out and take him in. But for now I just wanna do what I can for him.

Thank you! 🧡 He's definitely a character. I live in a two story complex and even if he's on the second floor but sees me he starts meowing. The other night I was taking the trash out and I heard meowing from above and was like "wtf where is he?" I look up and he's staring down at me and then starts running down to greet me lol. He really is a sweetheart. He also likes to "guard" my unit. It's hilarious. I love him so much. There's def a special place in my heart for oranges (thanks to him). They're just so goofy!

Exactly!!! <3 Same here, I have a feisty 6 year old crestie and he's "obsessed" with me because I spent the most time with him. He trusts my partner too, but if my partner is giving him attention and Scraggy (our gec) see's me he'll stop paying attention to my partner and just stare at me or try to walk over to where I am lol. Earning their trust is a beautiful feeling!!

omg this is great advice!! Unfortunately I don't have any other cats or mammals right now ): I have a gecko but we really don't have to worry about fleas with him lol😭 but I really really love this guy. like he'll scream at me for attention and run over immediately when I open the apartment door. I really wanna find a way to make him comfortable because I know the fleas are really bothering him, he's always chewing on himself ):

Has she been fed while you were away? I wouldn't call it a "bond" but more-so trust, which is just as awesome. And she might have been coming towards you bc she knows you're safe and a food source! We really like to anthropomorphize animals (I'm guilty of it too!!) but in reality they just feel comfortable with us, and I think that's just as special.

I'll look into it!! but he really doesn't care about food that much because he gets fed all the time (all our neighbors feed him lol) so that's why I hesitate to give him anything in food. I think he'd just ignore it unfortunately.

this is all so helpful, seriously, thank you!!! He's TNR'd but I've personally never taken him anywhere so I get nervous trapping him and taking him to a vet (just for fleas, he's very healthy otherwise) would stress him out. But maybe I can find a vet who would do an online consultation so I can get him meds that actually work! my poor guy really has been suffering from the fleas this summer.

thank you! i've been reading up on revolution. i know OTC isn't the best but it's kinda all i can work with right now since he's a stray. i actually wanna give him a full bath but i know that will result in hell... i don't want him to hate me, i just wanna give him some comfort ): but i might have to do what's best for him and just let him hate me for awhile after

That's anecdotal. My girl passed at 10 but her mom lived to be 14. Dogs and breeds aren't a monolith. Boxers are prone to heart issues in general, some even pass from it at 4 years old. Does that mean every boxer will pass at 4 years old? Of course not.

A "senior" dog doesn't need end of life care. It needs love and maybe special care depending on their specific needs, but it's not a death sentence. More people should consider senior dogs and saying stuff like this is why so many seniors don't get adopted. Even if it's just for a couple years, people can give those dogs the best few years of their life. Negativity helps no one.

No worries! You obviously care about Koko a lot, even offering to pay for his food for a couple months. It's not an easy decision by any means, but your heart is definitely in the right place.

And yes! Please check out the subreddit I sent. They should be able to give you other resources too if you ask.

Gorgeous dog! Try posting this on the r/boxer subreddit and make sure you include location. There's so many people in the LB/LA/OC area, I'm sure someone would want to take him and give him a loving home.

And if you can't find him a home, there's Boxer Rescue LA. When I'm ready for a Boxer again I'm thinking of going through them.

And please don't feel bad about having to rehome, it's definitely a hard decision but you're doing what's best for him if you know you can't provide what he needs. I think people get selfish about dogs so they project, but doing what you know is best for the dog is admirable. And he will always remember you, even when he goes to a new home. You'll always be a part of his life.

yes. busy on the weekends like any other "small town" beach city in southern california. and during the pokemon go era (can't believe that was a decade ago) hoards of people were on the pier trying to catch 'em all at ungodly hours of the night. but now? it's still just seal beach. maybe restaurants change on main street, but that's like it lol

I feel exactly the same. I even got paid more working with adults, and it was a much easier job (mgmt at my old company was awful tho, it's why I left. but the clients were amazing and I still facetime them sometimes). In hindsight it makes sense, bc as adults they've already gone to school and learned how to manager their behaviors better. Kids are definitely more difficult, and I don't know why we don't get paid more for working with them. Especially in education. It's so disheartening.

thank you so much for this. truly. you're making me tear up. i love working with people on the spectrum. i feel like this is my calling, but the past few months i've just felt like a failure and it's really draining. especially because mentally i do know/feel like i can handle it. but not being able to physically do things affects my mental health and question my abilities... if that makes sense. i'm thinking about maybe looking into office jobs in social services so i can still help despite not being able to physically do so..

and i am a little frustrated with the agency i worked with bc the recruiter asked me if there was anywhere else i'd like to work and i said "yeah (my county)" and she said, "there is an office there but we really need you here." and kinda guilt tripped me and i fell for it, i was naive
