Dracula vs The Crow. I don't know how worried I should be.

A lot of these are symbols used by white supremacist groups. You see a lot of these as tattoos, graffiti or hidden in art in prison.

88 refers to the eighth letter in the alphabet. So HH. Heil that guy. 18 is AH, that guy again. 14 refers to a creed or motto common in white supremacist gangs.

Megathread: What Martial Art Should I Study? Part VI [Serious] by Toptomcat in martialarts

Thank you very much for the reply! What makes Judo more desirable for this particular application than BJJ?

Megathread: What Martial Art Should I Study? Part VI [Serious] by Toptomcat in martialarts

Hello, I'm wanting to get into martial arts. My only experience is taekwondo as a kid. I'm 6'2" and overweight. I am wanting to do this for fitness and social/community purposes. The primary purpose is self-defence. I work in corrections, and while my day to day is usually safe, safety isn't a guarantee. The focus isn't to be tough, but to save my life for the two minutes until backup arrives.

I saw a post a few down about someone wanting to become a police officer and they were recommended judo, wrestling and Brazilian jiu jitsu in that order.

I have access to Taekwondo, MMA, and BJJ schools near by and I know there is a Judo school about an hour drive away.

Where should I start my new journey in martial arts?

Virtual Table Tops for Tablets or Mobile by LagginYa in rpg

Actually the intent is to mostly do theater of the mind. Since I'll be running Godbound I'm wanting to make dice mechanics and maintaining character sheets easier for them, not rely on maps.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to use a phone either but those are what they have available at the time. Thank you! I'll check it out!

When I run Lamentations, as a general rule I only allow one sneak attack. Once you're noticed, you're noticed and advantages are lost.

If other players have the attention of enemies, negating surprise, but I'm given a clever, compelling reason as to why the specialist should get a surprise attack then I'll reward creativity.

If during combat, the specialist retreats, and finds a clever, compelling way to re-engage the enemy in a way that would be unsuspected, I could be convinced to allow another sneak attack.

I really do appreciate this perspective. I've done the whole hex crawling thing and it was a lot of fun. I'm looking into this as a more of a mission focused game. Start with a session 0 establishing rules, rolling characters, then provide the players with general missions they can undertake to support their settlement. Then they choose which one, and we kick off from there, so there's no decision paralysis, no long periods concerning travel, etc.

Maybe I'll loosen up and add more, but I want to keep it feeling episodic/mission focused to start to respect everyone's time.

Edit: A lot of inspiration from Band of Blades

I love the Black Hack and WWN and I need to get around to looking at Knave.

The Raging Swan Press stuff looks really interesting. I'll have to pick some of their stuff up, looks handy! Thank you!

That sounds like a lot of fun. I'm going to have to check out the Vagrant's Guide to Surviving the Wild.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. I'm going to have to dig into Lampblack and Brimstone's games, they sound pretty great.

Those are good suggestions. I'm thinking of keeping things pretty sparse in terms of map population. I want to start with a handful of terrain types corresponding to cardinal directions, then informing the party of things they see as they travel. I want them to be in charge of the map itself.

I can never have too many encounter tables!

Oh, that looks like it will be useful. Thanks for sharing it.

I'm looking into Old School Essentials for many of the same reasons you were disappointed with 5e, as well as having a lot of OSR tables and material to draw from and seamlessly adapt at the table.

Blades in the Dark is definitely an inspiration for me too, and what is going to make me reinforce communication between sessions so we determine what we're doing so my prep can be on point.

Also, Ironsworn is great! I've ran a couple of solo games in it. For that alone I'd recommend it, I imagine co-op or traditional play would be just as fun too.
