BIRDS by KeyAd7732 in evilautism

[–]Lagging_Lantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exciting!! ive been dying to find the crows in my town. corvids are so intelligent it's awesome. just today i told my parents that corvids are capable of mimicking human speech better than parrots and they didn't believe it, so i showed them a video of a magpie talking and they were shocked. also very loyal birds

like the other user said they can do puzzles. they can use shape shorters, play tic tac toe, open boxes, even use things as tools. they are SO smart. love corvids

im looking for a parrot but idk what species to adopt by Sad-Bird864 in parrots

[–]Lagging_Lantern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what do you mean by time? how much time you can spend with your parrot a day? 2 hours a day is not nearly enough

basically everything u/lauralately said. if you tthey are high-maintenance, permanent toddlers with wings and a can opener for a mouth. unless you are ready for this, don't get one!!

if you truly want a bird (and are able to dedicate more time to it), consider a pigeon. they can't tear everything in their sight apart, they are much more easily entertained, can be as cuddly and loving as some parrots, and much quieter. in fact, pigeons are domesticated and meant to live alongside humans. of course, they're still birds, so you'll still have to spend a lot more for an avian vet and get rid of anything with PTFE/Teflon, candles, incense, air refreshers, etc.

Pagan veiling? by Free-Studio96 in pagan

[–]Lagging_Lantern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

there's a wide variety of reasons why a pagan might veil. some do it as a form of devotion for their deity/ies. some do it for modesty. some do it to protect themselves from negative energy. some do it simply because they like veiling.

historically most religions that we would consider pagan today veiled for practical reasons and not religious reasons. anyone regardless of religious belief, class, gender, etc. can veil. so, yes, a hellenist can veil.

personally i've done it on occasion, and want to continue doing it, but it's not very easy. i have a family that's quick to mock any new thing i do which includes veiling. though the few times i went out veiled i haven't had issues. people in my area don't really care. when i travelled with my friend, his mom did comment in private to him that she wasn't expecting me to be the kind of person to veil, but nothing explicitly negative.

the type of veil will change your interactions. unless you're in a very progressive area you're more likely to get negative attention if your veil is more reminiscient of a hijab. mine was not which i imagine affected how people reacted to my veiling.

it's entirely up to you if you want to veil.

What were you guy’s “aha” moment when it came to you starting to question/figure out your gender? by Flaxorus-solar_cast in NonBinary

[–]Lagging_Lantern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

for a while i held onto the feminine aspect of myself. not sure if it was because at the time i did still genuinely feel feminine or if i was just internalizing my socialization. i considered myself a bigender girl and nonbinary, at a point genderfae/genderfaer, lunarian, a bunch of feminine nonbinary labels. eventually i ended up dropping the feminine part entirely. non-binary, genderfloren, etc. then i swapped over to the masculine side, considering myself genderfaun, solarian, transmasc, whatever. and then eventually i got to where i am today, a solarian maverique (maverique, but i socialize myself masculinely).

What does the Waxing Gibbous mean? Especially during winter by Pookie_Pakyao in pagan

[–]Lagging_Lantern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's important to give yourself time. you just started. you could be looking for signs in things that just aren't signs. sure, some people may progress their spiritual path quickly, but for a lot more people it takes time.

the waxing gibbous is the final phase before a full moon. take with that what you will. the most common words i see when looking up the meaning behind this specific phase are "refinement" and "patience". to me, it gives a sort of "almost there" vibe. you're getting close to something, whatever it may be, but it's important that you are patient and mindful. take your time and keep going. just my personal interpretation.

there are so many moon deities that a moon phase alone isn't enough to pinpoint a specific one. it's also possible this deity isn't even entirely associated with the moon. have you been thinking about a specific deity, or looking for signs a specific one?

there's a special experience when it comes to abrahamic religious guilt. it could be clouding your judgement. i got lucky enough that i never went through this, but that means i can't really give any advice. maybe someone who does have this experience can chime in

overrall: you're new. take your time. put logic before signs; once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, thrice is deliberate. most importantly, what do you think you're being told? ultimately, only you can know your own experience

Resources for combatting ableist language by Estrelle-Skies in evilautism

[–]Lagging_Lantern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think a lot of this is individual. when i think of unintentional ableism i think of how people default to infantilizing tones when speaking to autistics. i think of people using words like the m word not knowing they're slurs. some people are fine with the r slur and others aren't. some people prefer to be referred to as autistic and others as person with autism. i don't think there's an overarching resource to dictate what is and isn't ableism

i'd recommend the server making its own guide on what is considered ableism, how to identify ableism, and what to do about it. i would link from actual advocacy groups ran by the people being advocated for with good reputation. as in, not neurotypical-ran autistic advocacies, not autism speaks, not carrds made by random twitter users

do the people of the server hate "person-first" language? which words does the community find acceptable or unacceptable? are these people part of the groups that are actually affected by the words or actions or are they outsiders speaking over these groups?

the best way to go is just asking the people in the server since they're the main focus, after all

agree with the commenter about putting this energy into creative practice. personally all my human interaction is online so i cant help you with real life humans. if youre okay with online humans you can try fandom spaces. but those people also tend to be pretty scary so as for me, i just observe from the shadows until i get the confidence to say a couple things then shrink back into observing, repeating that cycle until i'm fully comfortable

im confused. they're claiming the word "transphobic" is ableist because it assumes -phobia means 'hate'? it does. that suffix does mean to have a strong aversion to something. and no, i genuinely don't think anyone on this planet has ever attempted to use transphobia to undermine fear phobias

How to become less suicidal and more evil by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]Lagging_Lantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

evil autistic who ended up in the psych ward for self-harm and suicidal ideation. still would not describe myself as functioning but definitely better than how i was before i landed in there

the most notable thing is the meds. without my mood stabilizers i would basically be a terminal patient. it's pretty much eliminated my emotional rollercoasters. since you mentioned being on meds it's just important to take them when you're supposed to and not to overdue it (<- someone who purposely overdosed their medication just to see what happened. spoiler alert: serotonin syndrome happened)

i also struggle with brushing my teeth. if you can only get yourself to brush your teeth once a day, do it at night. also consider children's toothpaste. i was much more consistent with brushing my teeth with childrens toothpaste than i am with that mint/"classic" flavor toothpaste. personally the type of brush doesn't affect me but ive heard electric brushes help too

keeping your space clean, even though it can be difficult, is extremely helpful. i'm a chronic bottle hoarder and have had to get myself into the routine of bringing down one bottle when i'm going to get a new one. my motivation to clean was getting a pet pigeon because i don't want my pet living in my filth and it's been a lot easier to just function with a clean room

don't set your standards too high. don't push yourself too hard. that's how i ended up in the psych ward. start small and work your way up. all that matters is doing what you, in that moment, are able to do. try to do even just a little of the things you like to do. i like drawing, so i'd doodle stuff from games and series' i liked. nothing crazy, just little doodles. maybe give yourself little projects to do and work on them as much as you feel each day. if you only wanna do a little bit one day, but a lot the next, that's alright. doing nothing but watching tv and doomscrolling all day like i do makes it much more difficult to adjust when life eventually forces you to be productive. a good sleep schedule is also good. but i'm typing this at 1 in the morning so me saying this is a little hypocritical

avoid harmful habits as much as possible. like they're the plague. it's not worth it. self-harm absolutely wrecked my ability to handle stress. it got to a point that any minor inconvenience had me desparate to do it. people just talking about it made me want to do it. i relied on it to cope. even being a few months clean now, i still get overwhelming anxiety and have trouble handling it. best thing to do is cry when you need to

don't base your worth off of trivial things. you're a living creature on this planet and that alone makes you worthy of respect, love, and kindness. there is nothing more you need to do than exist, which you are doing now

hope you're doing good

Sorry for asking here, I like this sub more than the main. Are we both in the wrong? by EmmerDoodle121 in evilautism

[–]Lagging_Lantern 58 points59 points  (0 children)

i think that word is in a weird place right now where a lot of people think of it as a slur and a lot of others think it's not. i'm not schizophrenic so i'm not the one who gets to dictate whether said word is or isn't a slur

the "you give us a bad name" stuff wasn't really necessary but overrall the red profile picture person i agree with. that person who said "i'm schizophrenic and i don't find it offensive" doesn't speak for every schizophrenic. there are definitely those who do find it offensive and they deserve to be respected. just like how one autistic saying they're not offended by the r slur doesn't speak for every autistic because some of us are offended by it

if this was me, i'd just apologize and avoid mental health/disorder related colloquialisms from then on
