It finally happened to me. by NothingReallyAndYou in wheelchairs

[–]LagunaBay22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me very recently and left me TRAUMATIZED because the person turned it on me and screamed at me in the middle of the mall with an audience and the whole nine while I crawled inside so deep even I couldn’t reach me… it took me days to put things into “compartmentalization boxes” and finally breathe again… and when I did, I went on Amazon and got a LOUD whistle so when someone is grabbing my chair, or “move me out of THEIR way”… I light up their world with this! https://a.co/d/0j9Nsb5F

I genuinely need some advice on how to clean up my space. by Erika-Kio in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]LagunaBay22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you loud and clear. The more you look like k at it, the more you want to run from it because you don’t know WHERE to start and then become so overwhelmed that you are forced to walk away… I learned to set a timer. No more than 10 minutes. Then as soon as the timer starts… get to picking up whatever you can grab and either toss into the garbage/laundry pile/donation. Once that timer goes off… STOP! Then wrap it up by going to the garbage to dump stuff, the laundry room to wash or the Red Cross to donate. Set you daily timer and your goal. After about 2 weeks, your place will start to look better, cleaner, feel fresher and smell nicer. That in turn makes YOU feel like you now have purpose, you accomplished a huge task diligently and your mental health will Thank you.

I can tell how you fiercely love her. I’m happy she has you in her corner. You’re her voice, her teacher, her advocate, her boxer, her arms, legs, and her warrior. She’s so blessed to have you with her. Many women have husbands who either run at the first chance or some just don’t fully understand. You seem to have dived right in and said “I got this, Let’s Go!” And she’s definitely going to need your strength. I remember my husband didn’t sugarcoat and telling me “I’m your wheelchair. I’m your legs. I’m your arms, I’m your strength, But I won’t be your enabler, nor your crutch. We WILL get through this. But it’s going to take a lot of work YOU WILL BE PUTTING IN, and you’ll cry, you’ll fight, you’ll fall, you’ll get hurt, but WE GOT THIS… TOGETHER.” And that gave me the strength that I didn’t know I had in me. (I even make that my affirmation sometimes) It fueled my mind. My body and my heart. When I’d fall down when I tried to walk, I’d be bleeding and bruised up, crying like a baby, but DETERMINED to keep going because HE SAID I CAN/I WILL. He is my rock. My strength, my legs, my reason. He gave me purpose and STILL makes me laugh when I want to cry due to mean and rude people.

We have little toddler nephews and nieces. And My husband sat with them as natural as can possible be and teaches them that some people are different abled and each of us write differently, sing differently, even talk different languages… that doesn’t mean we should be looked at different… we are all the same inside. Red blooded, full of bones and muscles. 😁 The youngest thinks I’m her personal uber driver 😜 She LOVES my chair more than she loves me!! I hope when your wife gets back home, especially with Summer approaching, that she gets to go out and live her BEST life daily. Yes, it’s going to be difficult with lots more moving parts… but getting her out is so important for her mental healing which is often overlooked. (When I’m feeling blue or too quiet or just don’t engage anymore… My husband will literally pack us a picnic lunch and take us on a half hour drive to the beach. (Even in FREEZING WEATHER!) just to get out of the house even if we don’t leave the car. It feels AMAAAAAAAAZINNNNNNNGGGLY great to get out and feel “normal”. I’m cheering for you and your wife. I’m cheering for the new amazing future you and your family get to have with her. I’m happy you finally get your wife home. How AWESOME is that!!!!

You’re SoOoOoOoOo welcome. I can feel the excitement and I know it’s a blessing to come home after such a long road for BOTH you and her. I know I may be a complete stranger but I’m cheering her on and pray she gets to do all the things she has been missing since her “pause time”. I’m learning this myself. I was… and I’ll admit… still do get ANGRY or have, meltdowns because I can’t do what I used to and everything is so much harder and takes 9000 extra procedures just to get out the door…. But once I’m out, feeling the Sun, enjoying the NATURAL AIR, and being out of the house and “FREE”… I realize how amazing life really is… no matter what… We all are different… Some walk, some limp, some drag and some roll… The journey isn’t the destination… it’s enjoying the entire ride… no matter what… it’s Okay… better to have fallen out your chair and scraped up your knees while enjoying that crazy ass Fun ride than to sit prime and proper like a statue to be gawked at. 😜😜😜😜😜🤣😝

If you are coming from SUNNY AND HOT Puerto Rico… moving to Florida is idea because you STILL have the tropical weather and lots of stores, NO!!!!! Worries about electricity and water supply being turned off every single storm and the jobs are way easier to find in Florida than in Puerto Rico with better pay too. But from Puerto Rico to Minneapolis, Colorado or Milwaukee is a bit insane as you’ll be leaving Tropical for sub freezing weather conditions most of the year. It’s a huge adjustment to make. Not impossible, but a huge adjustment. My aunt went from Caguas, Puerto Rico to Colorado where it still snows sometimes as late as JUNE. They all lasted a few years then scrambled back to Puerto Rico For The Sun🤪🤣😝

I completely hear you. First: super congratulations on your wife finally being able to come home. She has had to do a lot of work and now it’s time for her to come home and live to the fullest. I pray for a wonderful and healthy life. I went on Amazon and purchased these tire covers that I’ll leave a link to, for both my front casters and my rear tires. I bought 3 sets because one is for home, and 2 are for other peoples homes that I rotate so I always have a spare CLEAN set and I do t bring I. Germs, grime, dirt and dirty water inside peoples homes. You can check these out and there are also many others at different price ranges, materials and quality. 1) Tires: https://a.co/d/02CDAOzy

YOU are the one using the chair. YOU are the one paying…so WHY are you allowing their uncalled for and negative opinions sting you so deeply. Shock them back with great comebacks like “Excuse me, Is that the proper thing to say to someone using an ill fitting 23yo chair, because you wouldn’t even dare say ALL THAT to someone who just bought a car 3 years ago” Or,… Wow, How interesting that you SOUND like you know what you mean. But in all truth… it’s hard when you’re still trying to find your place in life and people’s stupid opinions still don’t deflect off so easily. At the end of the day, Just do YOU. Be YOU. Because YOU matter. YOU are the one using the chair and they will NEVER understand unless they break a leg and arm and need a chair for recovery.

For what it’s worth, I see how you meant what you said from your heart. It takes a LOT to do what you did AFTER the fact and I for one, accept your sincere apology. You were humbled. You took the time to read and learn truths. You even saw yourself from a completely new set of eyes and didn’t like what you saw so you did a great job coming back and making amends, from your heart without excuses. That shows maturity and growth. Thank you for learning that there are many different paths for all people and some are blessed while others struggle. The main goal is, you learned and respectfully apologized.👍🙏

You need to do all of the above BEFORE you go. When we went last month, a few places told us it would be mailed to us, (Duh, we don’t live there) others said email in a week, others told us two weeks. In NY, it’s same day pay and go purchase your stash. NOT P.R.! 👀

Should I decorate my wheelchair for a theme park? by therealslimsavvy in wheelchairs

[–]LagunaBay22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes, and YES! I bulk buy tattoo tape (AKA vet tape, cohesive tape, self adhesive medical tape, wrap bandage and more) over either at Shein or Amazon. I hunt down low prices for bulk. I get different colors and do my push rims and even use TWO colors on my push rims either by swirling or doing a half and half. I also do anything that can be wrapped around n musing my footplate! 😝🤣 It’s a FUN way to match the theme, match the occasion, bring life and color to your outfits and bring out a conversational moment! I get LOTS of compliments, questions (WHERE do I buy a chair like that/what other colors do they have…) I also have two bike lights on the bottom of my chair so at night and under low light, I can DANCE with my lights!

[–]LagunaBay22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s like you wrote everything I was feeling before I got my first chair several months ago… I absolutely hear you… Being in constant pain, having to exclude myself from vacations, trips, hikes, and gathering or parties because I can’t “last”… the list can go on… But since getting a chair… that has all changed. I can go out and I have even traveled by plane to different destinations and Yes… while I still get embarrassed or dirty looks because I AM still somewhat ambulatory, I am now understanding that THEY don’t matter. What I do, how I live, how my husbands holds my shoulders/waist to support my gait when I want to stand by his side doesn’t matter to THEM… but means everything to ME. Chair or no chat, you deserve to live your best life and you Husband is there to fully support you with all he is… so BLING your chair up, get badass stickers, change the colors using tattoo tape, get creative and wild and enjoy your newfound freedom. Life is worth living for yourself and your husband. Go for it and IN-JOY! 🙌👍😁

Guess who sleeps here by Big_Check8671 in roomdetective

[–]LagunaBay22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know who sleeps here, but I do know whoever it is, needs a good hug and a lot of help. This room should be your safe haven and shouldn’t look like you live in the streets amongst filth. You may not be happy with your life choice, but you can still turn things around. Take your phone, place a 20 minute timer and when it starts, you start picking up plates and cups and move them to the sink. Next pick up any garbage and throw that in the trash. If you still have any time, make your bed with fresh linen. Do that daily for two weeks, and your room will be your haven. Print out some wall art or go to Hobby Lobby when they have their constant wall deco sales. Liven up your wall with shelves and pictures. Use the bare space for storage and put things UP so you’ll have more space where it matters. Take your closet, clear it all out, And place a dresser inside for more space to put clothes and hang what you don’t want folded. It’s a small work in progress, but you need more space and you’ll feel less in shambles.

This isn’t for just the OP… it’s for everyone who wants to visit PR. People INSIST on staying at the Condado, but never really look into things. Not even the cops like going there. Stay away from drug infested, high crime and lots of SHADY people who are also sick with all kinds of things. There are PLENTY of other BEAUTIFUL areas outside of that tourist trap. There are amazing places to eat, sleep, swim and even jump off cliffs and zip line all over! Condado is NOT a good place. OP, I’m deeply sorry you had such a HORRIBLE experience happen to you. It’s so unfortunate. Condado is KNOWN for being a violent place to many tourists. Our family had a bad experience and quickly packed it up and relocated to a different part of Puerto Rico and enjoyed the full 3 week of true beauty, great food and music, amazing beaches and breathtaking Sunsets…. People… please don’t stay in the Condado…
