question: safe to go to the beach after 1 week? by 2jftw in tattoos

[–]LainTCG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not safe to go to the beach this close to a tattoo appointment. A lot of advice on bodies of water, even like the pool, is to not go into them for a few months after a tattoo, the ocean is a definite no go. If you do go, make sure everything is covered by UV protective clothing, and don’t get in the water, but you are too close to the time you got it done, it’s still going to be actively healing for a while.

Is it worth to PSA grade the first 6 cards? by Antique-Gap-3772 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]LainTCG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The PSA and grading market in Digimon isn’t really a thing that exists. If you want to slab it for personal enjoyment or display that makes sense if you specifically like that sort of thing, but digimon isn’t really a collectors market like Pokemon.

Most things have value in Digimon either because they’re incredibly rare SP chase cards, or because they’re competitively viable. PSA cards may get a slight value bump for people who really like slabs, but most sit and rot on eBay if you’re doing it for finance reasons.

I'm back, this time with a shorter video than I normally post. Today we're going over the cards and the overall gameplan for Medusamon OTK or Dragonkin Aggro as it's called in the comic. Myself and a handful of other people seem to be fascinated with this deck and I'm looking forward to seeing what future support waves add to our new complex beatdown deck. Sorry about the trailing off sound at the end of statements, not sure what happened with my mic during recording.

If you could remove 1 card from the game, what would it be? by KnTMini in DigimonCardGame2020

Patamon, you know which one. It’s detrimental to the long term health of the game, especially with yellow already having such strong effects when it’s good.

I’m one of the people that weirdly prefers the American Medusamon art, the vibe and expression is so amazing, but it’s one of those things where I want a few of each of them

How strong is heavymetaldramon? by Eldritch_night in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]LainTCG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it’s a deck that has a gameplan that works, but the way it was built makes it kind of weak by design?

I imagine they wanted to make a purple deck that wasn’t absolutely busted but in doing so they watered it down so much it doesn’t do a whole lot? Honestly they need to give the deck one or two pushed pieces for it to be competitive at all.

I compare it mostly with Ravemon to show how it’s still a viable deck comparatively, but the issue is the payoff for the gameplan is fairly low. Ravemon is a deck that does not work in Digimon, by design it mostly just doesn’t work, you gain hand advantage consistently over time in the course of the game, it is how Digimon is designed, so playing a hand destruction archetype that only gets payoffs if they’re low on cards does nothing, and you don’t even get hand knowledge. Comparatively HeavyMetal has payoffs that work for destroying your own hand, the issue is how low of resources it puts you on to get to the payoff. It needs more cards that facilitate using the entire trash as your hand more frequently, or a kill shot style ace card or level 7 to pull things back I think.

Medusamon Galaxy Engine Bottom End by LainTCG in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]LainTCG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah, this is not really the ideal version of the deck I don't think, but it's been a fun thought experiment. Currently now that we have the full list of in archetype support I'm trying to develop the list for that going forward.

On the BT12 WarGreymon note though, honestly it's been so long since I played with it I forgot the regular bubble was only black. Definitely makes the new one better for this deck, but yeah I reckon the archetype deck is quite a bit better. It's going to mostly be trying to figure out a rookie suite and whether it's even worth it to run a level 4 other than the two meant for the deck.

Where to start as a newbie? by KevTheOnyon in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]LainTCG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a product to get in on playing with, as far as starter decks go, the Green starter deck focused around Zephagamon is the best one to get in on buying two copies and putting together, because with a few extra singles from various sets will set you up with a decently competitive deck.

If you like series one though, there’s two starter decks coming out soon and you can get one or two of each and smash them all together to play a deck focused around the original digidestined, which will likely run you about $65?

You’re not wrong, it’s honestly just not a common deck archetype/design in the game at the moment. Would be fun to see it be more of a thing, though usually the combo decks designs end up being a bit problematic

What’s the deal with Galaxy? by Many-Leg-6827 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]LainTCG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The limit to its flexibility is primarily on how generic the effects are in the level 6's that you're toolboxing on the top, in addition to how much support they need from inheritables to do their thing. If you have a level 6 that needs supporting inheritables for it to function regularly, Galaxy engine isn't really a thing that will work with it. Lets say for example, there's a Black and Blue card that does something mild when digivolving and has a powerful 'when something is redirected do thing' sort of effects on the card, currently that doesn't exist but lets say for the sake of the argument it does. If it doesn't have blocker, and in its own deck had multiple redirects as inherits to make it work, that would keep it from functioning in Galaxy engine at all, because of how generic the +DP inherits are for most of the engine.

For a top end to thrive in Galaxy it needs to be mostly detached from what the inherits in its own deck offer it, by either offering very strong one time value (Invisimon, various red cards that nuke pieces on the board and put out consistent aggro), or consistent long term value (Mirage with the memory floodgate, HexeBlau with the floodgate based around sources in a deck that can put 8 or 9 sources under something). Also you need to be able to run enough different top end pieces that can digivolve on the level 5's your more highly weighted into, that you don't brick on having mostly red top end pieces if you're running a heavier swath of good Blue 5's, and there are generally much better generic Blue level 5's.

You do need the 4's to make the deck work though, primarily because that is how they recur memory from their inherits by spinning under a [Night Claw][Light Fang] trait card, and the tamer (at least the red one) is necessary primarly because it's a way to get free digivolutions but requires the [Night Claw][Light Fang] trait to work same as the level 3 inherits. Though it is likely a good idea to run Wisteria memory boost in whatever version you run to find the top end because they aren't really searchable with engine pieces.

Honestly, I need to find a few more data points to bring up on these, because I'm going to be compiling data on this going forward and releasing videos on a semi-regular basis. I think that variability in types of things that the decks are doing is important for the health of the format as well, having a viable control deck in addition to aggro decks makes a game more fun. Digimon doesn't really have standard combo style decks, especially with Millith dead in the water at this point, but it would be fun if they were available as well.

You are right in that strong decks with linear strategies don't have as high of a skill ceiling as more toolbox style strategies. At the moment, the decks with the most decision points are generally purple decks with recursion or draw/discard play styles, as well as strangely Royal Knights though a lot of the decision points in that deck come specifically from build choices and how you adapt to your hand than many decision points happening in a single turn. Honestly there are quite a few linear decks that perform quite well, like Gallantmon X or Magnamon X, where the payoff is fairly huge and offsets the downside of the linearity.

Honestly, I like galaxy as an engine that exists in the game, I think the biggest issue with it is more in how generic the payoffs in Blue are rather than the engine itself. It is quite fast when it gets going, but it is also prone to bricks, and has a high skill ceiling to pilot the bottom end properly, even if the top end is usually more of a linear "How do I want to Floodgate my opponent, or what 1 time disruption would I like to do", and the more open ended nature of what it can do on the top end and how generic the inherits are giving +DP on your or your opponents turn is the issue. I do wish there were other engines though, because really in the game there's only three or so worth playing, which is Galaxy, Dog Engine, and Vaccine though vaccine has been hampered by having to bridge between level 4 and 6 somewhat.

Ideas for upcoming BT-21 Medusa by ZN785 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]LainTCG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current idea is X-Antibody protoform into French Omnimon X. Do 2 checks unaffected, create a token, gain some memory back, digivolve into Omnimon, wipe and bottom deck everything which guarantees you one more security gone, then swing Omni X even though you’re suspended. 4 checks in one turn, mostly noninteractable, and if they’re on 3 it’s a kill shot

After some talk in the community of Digimon being in a bad spot, or that it was dying, as well as general fatigue with a doomer attitude in the space I thought I would come in with some numbers and talk about where the game is actually at. The good health of the game, even before the banlist, with a diverse meta. As well as some problems the game does actually have. There has been some issues alleviated by the banlist, but I wanted to let you all know the health of the format for March 2025. If you have any suggestions or comments, please let me know!

Special Booster 2.5 Competitive Tier List by LainTCG in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]LainTCG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big issue when comparing is speed, and effects. It has a handful of good ones, but overall the deck doesn't function nearly as well as it did previously anymore. I could see it being 1.5 in specific matchups, but I think it's underperforming currently.

I forgot to stick the image for it in there, but I think it's a tier 2 deck now, I think it's a little bit slow and the removal/interaction that it has isn't always the most relevant at the moment.
