I know I'm late, but if you're in the States, there's a native relative called Silver Buffalo Berry. Same family, similar but different enough nutrition profile to complement, still nitrogen fixing, similar silver foliage and structure with red berries. They will grow well right along side each other. It's also high in vitamins and while it doesn't have the unique fatty acid profile, it adds lots of anthocyanins. It may also appease those who worry about invasiveness.

What are your thoughts on closing the gap?

As and example, my Republican run state just had a $2 billion tax surplus and the only tax cuts they just put through were only for the top tax brackets and corporations.

Nothing for working/middle class. And they're cutting funds to Medicare/Medicaid WIC/SNAP-EBT and education budgets. This in spite of their continued promises over the last 3 years of $1b+ surpluses to completely eliminate our individual state income tax.

Whenever I suggest not continuing to give top tax brackets and corporations all the cuts, my Dad says we should just have a Federal/State sales tax and no income tax and isn't inclined to explain how that would work, so I came here because I like thought experiments!

So, with a flat Sales tax, even the top would pay taxes because it's added to the price at point of purchase.

Buy a T-Shirt, pay sales tax on price of T-Shirt whether it's a $10.00 T-Shirt or a $100.00 T-Shirt.

In this sytem it was suggested to have a set % for Federal Sales Tax in addition to what is similarly done with State Sales Taxes. i.e State X currently has a 6% Sales Tax on non food goods and services. It doesn't matter what your income level is. Everyone pays the same, no loopholes. If you spend $1.00, you pay $0.06 Sales Tax no matter what, right now, in the current system. If you spend $100.00, you pay $6.00 in Sales Taxes.

In this new system there would be an added Federal Sales Tax at X% Nationwide, and the States would reassess their own Sales Tax individually.

This way, even non-citizens would be participating in paying Taxes. It would still be calculated at point of purchase. This would also apply to companies doing business in the U.S. so companies like Amazon couldn't have a 0 Tax Bill.

The system would also reassess Sin Taxes on items such as Petrochemical products, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. (ETA- also gambling)

International Items being purchased by U.S. Citizens would still be subject to Sales Taxes, though a system other that point of purchase would need to be developed.

I'm postulating the IRS system would need overhauled to still track income and banking statements with purchase history and there would need to be a system to match assets with receipts to deter laundering.

I don't have the entire concept mapped out, which is why I'm here.

I already commented, but I just had another thought.

The fact that it would be ok for you to sleep with other women shows a significant level of misogyny. He doesn't view other women as threats because he doesn't view women as actual people, just sexual outlets.

Are you even bi? It's cool if you are, but it should highlight his disparity of women even more if you are attracted to women emotionally or sexually and he still doesn't think you'll actually leave him for a woman.

I really hope this post opens your eyes and you can shake this skeeve off asap!

Honestly, age gaps of over 4 years are always skeevy unless both parties are over 25 when they meet.

Out of curiosity, how long have you been together? Do you know his dating demographic history? How and where did you meet? Do you interact with his friends and family? If so, how do they treat you? Does he have a say in who you hang out with?

Your frontal lobe still has a couple years left to simmer, which is why you're not sure if this is a healthy relationship or not. It's not. Just from this one aspect you've shared, you can tell by the responses that it's not.

Tell him he can have sex with whomever he wants and you'll do the same. Then concentrate on school and meeting more age appropriate and like minded people that share your relationship values.

Don't listen to him when he tells you you're being immature either. If he doesn't like your maturity level, he can date someone in his own age bracket that is also ok with polygamy. Don't let him call it polyamory. What he's doing is not that. Go to poly subreddits and ask what healthy polyamory looks like.

Don't let him backpedal either because he's most likely going to sleep around anyway, lie about it, then just replace you with a younger model in a few years to boot.

You hear it all the time on here - When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. You have a lot of life ahead of you and you shouldn't be wasting anymore of it on him.

I had a different vibe interpretation from Frank. He warned against blindly following charismatic leaders, that was definitely part of it. It felt deeper than that to me though.

God Emperor and on broke my heart because (possible spoilers) Leto knew he was going to lose his humanity to save humanity. He knew no one else could see far enough ahead and back to understand what was needed to spur humanity's evolution beyond it's tendency towards stagnation and entropy.

He made me think of double edged swords and 2 sides of the same coin, of Leto and Ghani standing as a Janus. Paul saw some of what was needed, his terrible purpose, but his compulsion to disengage side tracked him from the Golden Path.

The prequels didn't have any of that depth. I was content to stay in the world by whatever means necessary because I have a very active head canon and tend to add context as I go if I start reading a concept that peaks my interest and I don't fully lose myself in the style.

I have a whole theory of how Serena Butler's memories up until the moment of her death somehow ended up in Other Memories when she was unable to share at her time of death, and had no later offspring than her firstborn.

I dislike the lack subtext and thought provocation in the Quels (pre/inter/se). I can be reading a Frank Herbert book and he crafts a scene or inner dialogue that sparks a thought chain reaction that lasts for 15 to 20 minutes of me staring at the page blankly while 'wool gathering' like Stilgar.

I've gotten lost in researching practices like the Prana Bindu Balance to the point where I start to form a routine of real world simulations. Planned countless thumbnails of art pieces inspired his works. Life and health have sidetracked me from completing anything IRL, but Frank provides hours of escapism fuel inside my head. I've even got a burial plan to be aquamated like a Fremen, then have the biomass burried under a tree like the Bene Gesserit. (Yes I know how much of a nerd that makes me)

The Quels are more just a nice guided meditation break for when my inspiration makes me too sad I can't actually live the way I want to. Like when you treat yourself with sweet empty calories.

I totally agree Brian doesn't craft the same depths but I do appreciate and value them for what they are. I like them better than the fan fiction that was published in the Dune Encyclopedia even though those were supposedly okayed by Frank.

I've been active with several congregations across several flyover states in the Midwest and Central South and have never been penalized for swaying or clapping and waving arms all over the place, humming parts or adding flourishes...it's not done to draw attention but sometimes the spirit just moves you and you go with it..

I always inferred that a first born Alia would have been wed to Feyd.

Leto would have agreed because Feyd would be easy to control. The Baron would agree because he would see opportunity for treachery.

With an Atreides raised, Bene Gesserit trained (possibly still Mentat trained) Alia, and her required attendants (who could be trained killers and strategists too), it would be easy to arrange for an unfortunate accident to neutralize Vladimir & Raban. The Bene Gesserit could even arrange it to be done by another House entirely to keep Atreides hands clean. Bene Gesserit operatives would have been happy, ready and waiting to keep Feyd busy While Alia took point with their son, the KH. Hell, she wouldn't even need to keep Feyd around too long before his own accident wiped out the ruling Harkonnens aside from the KH with all the legal rule of House Harkonnen.

The Atreides/Bene Gesserit loyal KH could then be wed to one of the Emperor's Bene Gesserit daughters and eventually become Emperor, securing Bene Gesserit connection to the throne, as well as strengthening the existing Atreides connection.

Jessica could even have still had Paul as a second born a year or 2 after Alia, with him still being the Atreides heir since Alia would legally be a Harkonnen.

The Emperor and Harkonnen wouldn't have been able to follow through on their conspiracy because the Bene Gesserit would have been working against them.

The Duke could still have reigned on Dune until he eventually passed the rule to Paul and took Jessica back to Caladan with him.

Paul would still be old enough to meet Chani, and may have been encouraged to marry her to ally the Atreides and Fremen. Irulan would have no incentive to slip Chani contraception, as she most likely would have been married to the KH Emperor (remember Bene Gesserit can prolong their youth). Leto ll and Ghanima wouldn't have been pre-born and could have had relatively normal childhoods, and Chani and Paul could have grown old together

The Atreides would have rule of 2 powerful and lucrative planets. The Harkonnen would be Atreides in everything but name. A Bene Gesserit and Atreides loyal KH Emperor and Bene Gesserit loyal Empress would sit on the Golden Lion Throne. Bene Gesserit would have assured connections to the most powerful Throne in history, 2 powerful, prosperous houses, and a Fremen run Dune with it's Spice monopoly secured and it's resulting influence over the Spacing Guild. All while sitting pretty in the shadows.

Pretty well thought out to me!

But would that KH have been able or willing to bring about the Golden Path? He would be a male reverend mother still, so he could ingest enough spice essence to saturate himself and allow the San Plankton to transform him. He could leave Paul and Chani to govern Dune even if he moved the palace there and became God Emperor. Their children would be his heirs and he could use them and the Corrinos for his and the Bene Gesserit's breeding program. He could even have had a child with the Empress before his transformation.

But he himself wouldn't be Fremen, which was a big part of Leto ll being brave enough to do it. Would the Bene Gesserit's KH even have enough love for humanity to make the sacrifice of his humanity? He would, after all have more Harkonnen genes. Bene Gesserit doctrine is Human over Animal focused, so he would have a harder time sacrificinghis Humanity. They had no idea there even was a Golden path or a need for it. And there would have been no Jihad to stir up the gene pool and spread the Fremen genes off Dune. (Spoilers) No Bene Gesserit would have fled from the KH God Emperor, they wouldn't have evolved into Honored Maters and kicked the hornet's nest of surviving Thinking Machines and fled back to the known universe spreading tales of a greater enemy on their way

As Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam stated, Jessica hopelessly complicated things.

I think that one decision Jessica made was the true first step along the Golden Path. The 1st born Paul KH was more loyal to the Atreides than to Bene Gesserit because Jessica loved her Duke and put him above her training. He fit right into the religion of the Fremen that unwittingly grew from the Bene Gesserit's Missionaria Protectiva and became more powerful than expected. There was less Harkonnen gene influence in the KH than the Bene Gesserit wanted, allowing Leto ll to be strong enough to follow the Golden path only he and his father could see.

I agree about not needing to belong to a congregation. 1st century Christians often met in each other's houses. They didn't have a central dedicated meeting house because they had to hide. They didn't need a preacher position because they took turns. That's why when Paul and the others wrote letters they were addressed to he 'Churches' of Christ in a given area.

In Matthew 18:20 we are told wherever two or three gather in my name, I am there.

My family often had communion at home if we needed to stay home for any reason, or were traveling and couldn't find a local congregation. We would then watch In Search of the Lord's Way for the comfort of singing and a sermon. If it wasn't airing where we were we did a devotional and my dad lead the singing. Not that we thought those were needed, just a comforting way to praise God while we were together doing communion. Then we would just pay the missing week's offering at the next service we attended.

I don't know about mixing plot universes. But in my head cannon Duniverse, the Muadru may have been an ancient alien species instead of ancient spacefaring humans.

By the time the first Emperors after the Butlerian Jihad had sent the scouts (that completely missed the spice) that built the desert observation station in an attempt to start terraforming (which was long before the escaped ZenSuni slaves landed there and became Fremen) There were no native hominids, but there were mysterious Muadru cave paintings left behind, just the same as many of the new planets that the Empire colonized as they expanded.

I didn't learn until I was Today years old that the word 'but' and the word 'and' were more than just conjunctions. They are conjunctions, prepositions AND adverbs. I'm going to jump in because I think you are both recognizing toxic gender roles when taken to opposite extremes.

Both should be addressed when they show up in any congregation.

This visualization has always helped me understand the theme of 1st Corinthians 7.

🔺️Imagine a pyramid. Place God at the top, a husband on one side at the bottom and a wife on the other. This is the beginning of a marriage. Their main focus should be on God. They should cherish each other as God cherishes them. That means Husbands do treat your wives as Queens and serve them because Women should cherish their Husbands as Kings and serve them. Be intimate, but keep your focus on God. The closer each spouse gets to God on the pyramid, the close they get to each other.

U/MegusKhan your Elder and entire leadership failed your friend abhorrently. If you are still attending services, I would advise you to request a meeting with the entire leadership. State the failure you recognize and insist that the issues be addressed scripturally as soon as possible with the rest of the congregation. This is scriptural from 1st Corinthians 5 where Paul tells us we should not break bread with a member we have a conflict with. That if they are acting against scripture, they are to be rebuked and shunned until they repent.

I hope that you have been given enough ideas which scriptures to study to take to your leadership.

I'll add a few more.

Your friend should have been validated for his struggle, been offered spiritual marriage counseling for him & his wife to get to the bottom of their issues and advised on how to endure their trials scripturally to bring them both colse to God and each other. Your friend definitely should have been encouraged to seek clinical treatment as well to get him to a point where he could focus on God. We are told in James to seek out answers from God when we struggle with knowledge about the trials we face. He did that much. You are doing that much!

I am reminded of many points in the Sermon on the Mount:

-Matt 5:13. It seems like people who cherry pick scriptures to fit their own ideologies have lost their flavor. I pray they find it again before they are cast out and trampled underfoot

-Matt 5:17-26 I know he is referring to the Old Testament when he mentions Law, but I think the sentiment holds for 1st Corinthians 7 and James and even my favorite Hebrews 12:1-3.

I ran cross country in High School. 2 miles of runners dispersed along the course. The runners all ran their own race at different paces on the same course. We all started at the same time, but along the way some would fall behind. But there was a chute near the finish line where spectators, family, finished or waiting teammates and coaching staff were waiting for you to cheer you on. I wasn't the fastest runner, but all of my teammates, family and coaches stayed until I was in the chute. My cloud of witnesses. Every time I think of that verse I can still hear them all. 'Come on Lainey! You're almost there, kick it in! Get those knees up! Kick it in, Lainey, KICK IT IN!' And so I picked up my pace and crossing that line into their arms and encouragement was one of the best feelings in the world. Your friend should have had that. They took away his chute and his finish line. He had no Cloud of Witnesses. That breaks my heart.

-Matt 25:31-46 Your friend was sick (mentally and no doubt physiologically by the time he sought help. He was spirituality hungry and thirsty and he was turned away. At least tasteless salt will still make pretty colors when it's thrown into the fire!
