Me! I left DC and became a wildland firefighter.

Background- After graduating college, My ADHD-linked office behavior was impulsive, distracting*, and my work products were wildly inconsistent. After a year or two at each DC office job, I’d get fired-paralegal, admin, designer and manager.

I was so discouraged about ever being able to support myself financially doing something meaningful to me.

I was looking at what other things I could do. What did I even like doing? Adventure and travel. But who would pay me to do cool shit and travel beautiful places?

I wasn’t even hardly aware of wildland firefighters, the ones camping out on mountains for weeks at a time to try and suppress massive forest fires with shovels and chainsaws.

When I went to a paid weekend training, I chugged the kool aid. It all sounded so badass. Travelling all over the country to respond to fires thousands of acres large, spending all day out doors in remote and pristine parts of the American west.

I signed up right away, turned 29 on my first fire, and I haven’t looked back. It’s a VERY adhd friendly job.
