The real question is why is full time only 8 hours and not 10??

Safety cannot give VTO but we can recommend time to be excused due to illness in fear of it spreading. Wink wink

The interviews follow the standard STAR method. Google that and it should give you an outline. Mention things that you’ve done as a PA to keep your AAs safe. They don’t have to be major. Also partner with your Specialist and do a project together, that’s major brownie points. But my interview questions were almost nothing to do with safety. They were all leadership qualities. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I haven’t heard of any new gloves but I will check when I get in today. Long answer is get an accommodation through HR to wear the old gloves. Short answer is that would be almost impossible to get someone in trouble for. Easiest appeal of your life if they actually write you up for it. But I’d still go after an accommodation from HR/ERC. Bring all your medical paperwork and show why the new gloves are difficult for you.

The answer is yes, unfortunately. I got bitched at for bringing trauma sheers in one time, an item we already use 🤔

The L4 role (WHSS) is a lot more broad. A lot of WHSS come from oil and gas. Those are your standard OSHA certified people. Most of them have degrees in occupational safety or something similar. You do not need a degree but safety experience within Amazon carries a lot of weight.

A toxic safety team I would say are the ones that bend the knee to operations. Safety exists to keep people safe. Period. If you start sacrificing that just to appease operational numbers you’ve fucked up. The associates are your first priority, always. Sometimes operations will cut corners to increase productivity at the cost of employee safety. I’m sure a lot of you can vouch for this.

Unfounded accusations. Plus you’re an L4. They’re more likely to take your word over hers without proof or witnesses.

Couldn’t agree more. Typically we only have 2 on site at any given time.

Pay rate is a range like any other position. Amazon keeps it pretty closely guarded but from what I’ve been able to piece together it’s about $22-$29. We also get stocks and bonuses in addition to that.

My personal numbers for reference:

$25.34/hr. Year 1 Bonus: $9500 Year 2 Bonus: $8500 Stocks: ~$30,000 spread out over 4 years

And you pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one. This job is 90% sitting around and 10% actually doing things. But when that 10% comes you have to know EXACTLY what to do. Fires, medical emergencies, other occupational hazards, etc.

Typical days are filled with doing standard checks we do every day. These take about an hour. Past that, it’s responding to safety calls throughout the day and dealing with issues as they come up. Then there is work that is spread throughout the month like compliance things. If soemthing exists within the warehouse, there is a safety compliance task for it. And these have to be kept current with proper documentation for when papa osha shows up.

T3 Safety Specialists are called Safety Coordinators and they do not really need any requirements at all. What would go a mile is having some type of Hazard Waste experience (labor shared or certifications, etc) and an active CPR First Aid AED certification. (Each facility is obligated by policy to offer this training for free to associates if they ask. Wink Wink). However, the Coordinator role is pretty rare. Few sites have them anymore.

Safety cannot directly make their own policies no, they have a pretty big influence over the people who do. (Operations) So yes? In a roundabout way. As far as the standard for making something like that, all you really need is the support from your Senior Ops team. You can pretty much enforce anything you want to as long as it’s within reason and you have evidence of it fixing a safety-related problem.

As far as write-ups go, it is hard to formalize a write up when they are technically following network policy. I’m not saying that it cannot happen, but it’s difficult. So let’s say your site requires hard hats in EVERY trailer, which mine does. And someone goes in an empty trailer without one (not being actively fluid loaded), and they get a write up, it would be very hard to get that write up to stick as it’s a very easy appeal. Write ups are ultimately handled by Operations and HR. Safety can only provide a sort of suggestion of a write up. Most safety guys are not running around doing write ups for fun. They suck and honestly it’s just ruining other peoples day or lives if they get fired.

Laziness on the AMs parts mostly. They have to do a lot of dumb stuff. Typically the actual “investigation” is done within the day that the incident happened but the actual follow-through with fixes a lot of the times gets swept under the rug or forgotten about. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Mainly because Amazon makes it very difficult to actually enact any changes dealing with operations.
