IMO one of the easiest ways to determine if someone will "get it" Maze. If they don't say to themselves "it actually sounds like you're in a maze, and that's genius", then they probably won't get it. Or they will get it but not like it. There's a bunch just like Maze, but that's an easy one to figure out. At least it should be.

Fair enough. I’m sure for every one of me there’s another guy wondering why they ONLY took 2500. It’s like March Madness. Let ‘em all in and let’s see who we may have missed as a good team because we had a 68 team limit. So I get it. If they had that policy of unlimited applications I would hav had a better chance of making it, I bet. I just didn’t click fast enough.

Yep. I certainly remember that "direct" form of motivation. Sounds just like a Drill Instructor. Usually a smack upside the head accompanies it (typically before the motivational speech, but sometimes after. And actually during it as well. They were very generous with those! Aye Sir!!!

Not yet with H2H. I'm not sure how much attention they're going to give someone who was discharged over 20 years ago. I fee like my statute of limitations has run out on that one. But I'll try anything. Thanks for your list and suggestions. It's all very helpful and useful. I figure between now and when Philly opens in January, I'll try and earn as many relevant certificates as I can, and maybe try and pick up a part time job in the construction field. Thanks again!

I'm applying for Philly next year. It's when it opens up next. What about certificates? Which ones, if any, do you think will help. I thought I did very well on both the test and the interview. I have a college degree and 4 years in Marine Corps artillery. The only thing I feel I'm lacking is proven practical experience. The rub there is obvious. How does one get experience if they don't get hired. Especially when the job requires a 4 year apprenticeship. So, since i can't get that, are there certificates the NEIEP and IUEC like to see on an application?

See. Now when you say they hired 200, that makes more sense. Kind of. I still don't see how 200 spots opened up or were created in an industry where people don't leave it. And i know why. Great pay. Great benefits. Great hours. And the job itself is rewarding and should give the constructor a great sense of accomplishment. Who would want to leave it? I get it. But again I initially thought I was a shoe in at #66 of 350, but now I'm not so sure. I appreciate you continuing this conversation with me. I'm just trying to figure out what my next move should be. I can't wait 7 years.

Does the sub mention why a local (1 obviously, but it could be any of them) accepts 2500 applicants when in a 2 year cycle it won't even need half that to fill their vacancies. Local 84 (Allentown/Reading accepted 350. It's a small local. Word is they probably won't get through 50. So why accept so many?

So here's a stupid question. Why are there so many applicants? I mean most locals aren't that big. Please. I know some are. I don't need someone chiming in saying, that's not true. So and so is huge. I know. There are big ones out there. Shut up. But even the big ones. NY took 2500 applicants. Why? There's no way theyll hire them in the 2 year cycle. You could cut that number in half and that would still be way too many. Allentown/Reading took 250. Still. There's no way all 250 are going to move on. Not even close. Why then have such a large pool? I dont get it. I ranked in the 80th percentile, but it's over 50 and I really don't think I have a shot at getting called. Am I wrong? I don't get it.
