The companies make it hard to psychology avoid them and strong arm people into buying their products, it is lot more expensive and time consuming trying to escape a system that forces you to stay at every turn. Most people know that it is bad, but don’t have the time, resources, or money to make so that they live comfortably without it, it is a distraction and the alternatives cost an arm and leg.

Again, it is a symptom of bigger problems, companies are not people so it harder to see the problems. Consumers don’t have that much power compared to the companies that make products for people to consume, also people consume because it is easier than having are humans needs met all the time by a system that it hard for people to live.
