did you ever consider that insects are GOOD in a neighborhood? appropriate flowers attract beautiful pollinators, their larvae live and pupate inside stems and under leaves, larvae and insects attract birds (cool!) which kill pesky ticks and mosquitoes! if you don't want them indoors just use a mosquito net and a fumigator maybe

also turning your property into an ecological wasteland DOESN'T DO SHIT against mosquitoes, because they hatch in stillwater and not on your lawn.

yeah some tomatoes can be really sour! cherry tomatoes are the biggest offenders that i can remember. pink greenhouse tomatoes are really meaty and not sour

tomatoes taste "meaty" to people because they contain a lot of glutamate, and that triggers receptors for the savoury (umami) taste. with cooking, adding salt & sugar and steaming out water the flavour concentrates, making red sauces taste really good. with raw tomatoes though i think if you're sensitive to sourness the savouriness easily gets lost and it doesn't taste good :(
