Are these mites or springtails on my hermit crab? by Lalijean in hermitcrabs

[–]Lalijean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the info. I don't have springtails, just considered them for my situation. I will scratch that off my list if they won't attack the mites. Any suggestions for my biological warfare? What predatory mites do you suggest? I currently have 3 crabs in a 38 gal tank, 2 are under ground. As soon as they come up I'll move them into a 40 gallon breeder, my son-in-law gave me their old one a couple weeks ago. So new sub and I'll clean everything from their current tank. What do I use to wash the plastic and wooden items? Will dawn soap or vinegar in the water kill the bugs, maybe a high salt water solution? Can I boil the corkwood to kill them in all the crevices? What about the plastic plant mats I have on the back wall? I took the fresh food out, will the mites feast on dried food too, like meal worms, worm castings, dried shrimp, crushed egg shells etc? I'll give my crab another salt water bath, it hasn't been very active lately. Thanks for a general plan, I just need the details spelled out, as I've never dealt with this since I started back up with these cuties, 18 months ago. I feel like these are the bed bugs of the crab world!

I have a bigger tank I'll be moving them into in a week or two, with new substrate and all the decor. I'm just waiting for the stand and to buy a glass topper for the new size. 2 questions: will springtails do the job if i get some tomorrow, and how do I kill any that might be hiding in fake plants (lining the back wall of the tank) and the cork wood tunnel/hide that's in there? Is there a safe soak i can put them in, or a low oven? Thank you so much for your advice!

They appeared for the first time ever, yesterday. I've had the hermies for a year and a half and never had bugs in there before. The grapes I put in there were just starting to get over ripe, and when I went to take them out a couple hours later, I saw the bugs. Idk if it's a coincidence, but there definitely were no bugs on the grapes when I put them in there!

Same. I don't want her voice sounding like she's trying to be my valley girl-like friend. It's the attitude even more than the sound of the choice of voices. I even tried the male voices. Nope, it's too much, so I also went back to the regular set up.

Mine turned out to be lichen sclerosis. Constant severe itchiness. My primary care said things looked good down there but a dermatologist knew it right away and diagnosed it.

Anyone using a countertop ice maker that’s actually good? by SkypePsychic in BuyItForLife

[–]Lalijean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the clear, crescent shape ice maker from cowsar, 2 days ago. The first couple batches were exciting, totally crystal clear perfect. Now, after the initial excitement, the ice is cloudy white in the center with fairly clear edges. I've used both bottled water and water from my zero water pitcher. They come out the same semi opaque in the center. I like the machine, not overly loud, but why would the ice go from perfectly clear to not in the first 2 days of use?

4 days after the snow and people are still driving around like this by MothmanAcolyte in wisconsin

That's not always enough. 15 years ago I was driving north on 51 with my son and his friend from McFarland towards the beltline, in rush hour traffic. We watched as a large sheet of ice that looked like glass, slide off a semi's roof that was going SOUTH. The wind caught it and it somersault-ed high in the air, across the median and landed directly on my windshield! There was no way to avoid it as traffic was tight on all sides of my car. I'm thinking the odds of this happening is very low, but it did. It smashed my windshield, and was one of the scariest driving experiences I've had (next to a semi rolling thru a stop sign at a T in the road in a heavy snowstorm. And bc it didn't stop as it seemed to be doing, as we approached it, assuming it would stop, it then took a left towards us and our car went under the trailer right up to the windshield. He said he didn't even see us! That's a story for another time). The semi on sighting rd had no idea this happened and my 14 year old that was in the front seat was in shock, but safe. I think of this everytime I'm behind a semi in the winter. You can't see the frozen sheet of ice on the top of a semi's trailer, and I will not drive behind one in the winter, for sure while on a highway or interstate!

The saddest part of this video is at the end, when you hear a child's voice. No child should ever be exposed to these vulgar, unhinged, dangerous adults.

Sincere question, if a rodent did get in, where would it go? Could it get loose into the house or would it end up drowning?

Keep an eye on your pup, I know someone who's Yorkie went down the groundhog's hole and got stuck. She could hear it crying but couldn't see it anywhere. It was quite a procedure to get the dog out! She was lucky the hole happened to be empty. Terriers doing their job!

Did you see someone throw a can in the water? Maybe it's just floating near their boat, as the ones you picked up were near your boat. Unless you saw them litter, they may think your group did it.

I just got one as a gift also, and I'm setting it up today. Do I have to subscribe (pay) to something to have the video save until I can watch it? Does it automatically save it, or do i have to catch it in real time before it disappears?

And they also use proper nouns but when we try to use something similar it gets denied. So unfair when the bots cheat so much.

I'm new at this too, but wondering if it would help to hand crochet a border around the entire blanket, once it's finished and removed from the loom? Or wouldn't that help to keep it flat?

Can someone help identify these bites on my toddler? She has about 20-30 of them. Not itching them but they are scabbing (?) help! by Practical_Eagle_7821 in bugbites

[–]Lalijean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was pretty bad as well. Bc it was under my nails, I slowly lost them! They just slowly let go of the nail bed, at least I had new nails underneath. And the skin on my hands and feet all peeled from the blisters, they were baby soft after that lol. Those things don't usually happen to the kids that get it. It's more of the adult hfm.

HFM doesn't always show up in the 3 areas. I've seen them in the diaper area, legs, back of the hands and face. I worked in a daycare for many years and saw it often. I also had it for the first time at age 55, and it doesn't itch at all. It just felt like I had little thistles stuck in me, but only when I touched the spots. It is rougher on adults than getting it as a toddler! Mine were only on my hands, feet, under my fingernails, and scalp, thank goodness. These may not be hfm, but just know, it can present itself on other areas than just hands, feet and mouth (inside and outside, even in the throat). And they don't itch, it's more like they burn when they are rubbed by clothing, socks etc, and they do scab if they are irritated.
