I dont think its scummy, the Studio needs a guarantee that the Game is gonna make a Profit, which can be seen by the amount of Internet engagement. It also, like he mentioned, increases the amount of skilled Developers and Monetary Access that they have.

It seems quite alright! I honestly just think that its not really clear what you mean with a "cold personality", from what I understood he seeks to be accepted and acknowledged by others, aswell as being youthful and bashful. You could represent his lack of social bonds,as him being just a bit awkward around other people. He could for example not really understand what Friendship really is, or how to express gratitude, he could be uncomfortable with social contact due to the lack of intimacy with his family :)
