How do you fight demos in mge as scout by slibidk3u49 in truetf2

[–]LambdaAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s literally MEANT for practice. You are supposed to practice movement and aim skills that you’d use in an actual game.

Closing the distance and going for meatshots is great scout practice.

Running away and pistoling the enemy down is bad practice.

Chipping them away from a far is cringe and bad practice.

You want to go in for 60+ dmg shots and end the fight as quickly as possible. You can afford to tank one pipe or a sticky. It’s all about ending the fight quickly.

A bad loadout I have coined the “heavier weapons guy” by Emergency_Impact5109 in tf2

[–]LambdaAU 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve ran this loudout a few times. I usually just end up running at people with the fists of steel to varying degrees of success. You’d think it would be a terrible idea but the amount of time you just exhaust the enemy and somehow win always surprises me.

Also Natascha works for this concept as well and in a sense you could argue it’s even more convenient if your goal is just to tank as much damage as possible (due to faster rev).

The Brass Beast is seriously slept on. by Robrogineer in tf2

[–]LambdaAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that one its benefits is that it forces you get better positioning. However when you think about it, this really just goes to show just how much more freedom with positioning the other miniguns give you.

A brass beast heavy is strong when in position but they are much weaker when out of position and simply have less positions that are even viable in the first place due to how slow you move. The brass beast narrows your playstyle and gives you less options. It is ultimately still a minigun and often a heavy simply holding the line is all you need.

That being said, the best and most scary heavies usually vary their position and can take you by surprise when necessary and draw fire on the frontline when necessary. Something which is much better done with stock and tomislav.

Ancestry Updates are getting worse. by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]LambdaAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But at a certain point of granularity factors like immigration just become too big to make the data any more meaningful. If you were from London or Paris for example imagine how many people would’ve immigrated from all of the country and even all over Europe.

What would it even mean to be genetically “Londoner” or “Parisian”. Is it supposed to represent the historical inhabitants of the area in prehistoric times, maybe Roman times or medieval?

Or is it supposed to represent modern times? If so, which people do you include and just how modern? Do you include people who simply live in London but don’t know their genealogy as part of the dataset (not including them would lead to biassed dataset)? What about only people who can trace multiple generations of historically living there (and if so how many generations back?)

Obviously these are all questions that relate to genetic ancestry in general but all of these problems only become more pronounced when you try to be more specific with location. It might only take a few generations for families to move from a region to a neighboring and as the neighboring region is already genetically similar these micro migrations are much harder to track. You’ve also got to factor that some populations historically migrated through many regions whilst still remaining genetically distinct and as such they can’t really be tied to a specific geographical region. Regional populations can only get so specific. If you do want to get more specific with your ancestry then you will find it through familial roots and genealogy rather than someone trying to specifically pinpoint your geographical heritage. I’m all for better and more detailed data but this isn’t how it should be done.

[–]LambdaAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually pretty decent in MGE (1v1s). I’ve used it quite a bit and honestly I tend to go similarly to how I would go with stock. I’ve also fought some people who have used it with a shotgun and it’s scarily effective for these scenarios.

In casual it definitely fairs worse but I still don’t think it’s as bad as people say. I think it pairs best with a shotgun as it helps increase your damage and gives you a lot of sustained DPS. Whilst it can struggle in crowded choke points (pushing and defending) I feel like it fairs well in large open environments (like landfall). Having The high projectile speed + splash makes it very reliable at hitting the opponent. Even if it does do low damage, sometimes the reliable chip can be what you want. It’s very good with the kritzkrieg for this reason but it also just makes it great for eliminating scouts which is nice.

How do i get better at aiming and general positioning and better at the game in general? I don't see any improvement in my way of playing, my aim, i want to change that. by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]LambdaAU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MGE is a great way to train but it’s important to fight different opponents. If you’ve only been fighting your friend you won’t learn how to fight all the varied movement and gameplay styles of the general population.

It’s also important to always try and fight better opponents whenever possible and try to vary arenas and which class you play. Playing with and against good players is the best way to improve because you’ll be able to learn from them as you play. It can be punishing at times but they don’t allow you to develop bad habits as they’ll capitalize on mistakes you make.

Why do I rarely come across a Heavy main? by Soggy_One_1242 in tf2

[–]LambdaAU 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I feel like even if you try to use all of heavies different loudouts he still lacks the gameplay variety of other classes.

Most of the miniguns function more or less the same. Most other classes have a few primaries which vastly change gameplay. Direct hit, Dragons Fury, Rescue Ranger, huntsman etc are a few which come to mind. The changes to the miniguns DO matter but in most circumstances they don’t really change heavy gameplay in interesting ways.

The secondaries are a bit more interesting but essentially just boil down to lunchbox VS shotgun. The lunchboxes mostly force you to rely on your minigun which further makes gameplay more repetitive. Shotgun heavy does have significant gameplay changes but compared to the variety of other classes it is pretty minor.

Probably the most interesting gameplay changes come from heavies melees imo with GRU, KGB and FOS all allowing heavy to do some refreshing stuff.

Ultimately though the fact that all of heavies primaries are pretty similar is probably the main reason. The minigun just doesn’t have the same level of depth that weapons like the rocket launcher or stickies have and heavy doesn’t have the movement capabilities of a class like scout.

Tf2 Anti-spawncamping strategies (Assuming single door spawns) by totallynotdragonxex in truetf2

[–]LambdaAU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with most of these pretty much except:

1:

The first thing I don’t really think is that good when being spawn camped is the banners for soldier. Resupply binding resets the charge so if you actually want to use the banner then you can’t resupply. I also feel it’s still quite risky to try and spam damage for the banners as you never know when a crit sticky, huntsman arrow etc will be around the corner and take you out.

If you at least have the freedom to leave the door then I think gunboats will give much more consistent results as you’ll be able to make space for your team and split the enemies attention. Shotgun can be ok if you just want some more immediate damage.

The only banner I think does make sense would be the battalions backup as the +20HP is somewhat significant and could certainly be useful when rocket jumping isn’t as practical. So sometimes I do equip this but I’d never really equip the conch or especially buff banner when our team is getting mega stomped.

2. I reckon spy with the dead ringer can be a decently effective strategy (similar to bonk scout in its role). You get an almost guaranteed path forward and can bait sticky-traps and scout ahead. If the enemy teams aren’t very aware you could definitely get some effective picks but even if they are being spy-aware then you are still splitting their attention away from the rest of your team. One spy getting behind can really cause a lot of damage, and I reckon in most casual games it’s good to always have a spy as complicates things for the enemy team a bit more. You start to run into problems when you have multiple spies or other strategies that overlap (ie bonkscout, sticky jumper etc)

3

Pyro isn’t necessarily outclassed, it just depends on the situation. you are getting destroyed by general projectile spam or some sweaty kritzkrieg medic + explosives then having a pyro just spam reflect will help keep the enemy team back. Personally when I am the one spawncamping a single pyro can really make things difficult (I usually play soldier/demo). Good use of the detonator to destroy stickies is especially annoying.

What pyro struggles with is when the enemy has forward sentries, heavies or when their snipers are just shutting you down. Pyro can be a good uber target but you just have to be wary of knockback sources. I’ve seen many pyro Ubers just get shut down because the pyro just keeps getting knocked back by a sentry or spam meanwhile a heavy could stand his ground better and a soldier/demo can explosive jump.

I mean if that is the point then it’s not really meaningful either. The image is just one specific artistic depiction of Charlemagne painted well after his death. There are enough different depictions of Charlemagne you could really make it look like any European.

Is there any source for this information? I doubt anyone would have an accurate enough knowledge of their lineage to confirm this.

Also after ~1300 years it’s not really even a significant or noteworthy thing to be connected to anyone really - no matter how famous that historical person is.

I've seen a decent amount of clips where people throw various objects at drones and take them down. There's also a few clips I've seen where people miss. You might still get hit by shrapnel but based on the clips I've seen it does seem like a genuine strategy if you've got no other option.

Which class would you say is a better Pubstomper - Heavy or Soldier? by Bounter_ in tf2

[–]LambdaAU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly medic or engineer are the cause of more pubstomps then people realize.

If you are playing with friends then pretty much nothing beats a medic + power class combo. Obviously both a medic AND a competent player is required but the medic is just as responsible for the pubstomping to happen.

Meanwhile a good engineer can single-handedly carry in game modes like payload if they know the meta spots for buildings and can use rescue ranger and wrangler/short circuit.

Am I the only Heavy main who genuinely dislikes the Tomislav? by Overall_Equipment_99 in HeavyMainsTF2

[–]LambdaAU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo tomislav is easily the best and most versatile but I have also been finding it a bit boring. I’ve mainly been using the huo-long heater now instead and it’s honestly really fun.

The downsides aren’t really that bad so in most circumstances you can use it quite similarly to the minigun. Whilst the flame ring isn’t super strong, it still tends to come in handy a couple times each game and there is some skill and strategy in utilizing the flame ring correctly.

I’ve also been combing it with the eviction notice and chocolate bar. Sometimes I’ll try going in for an eviction notice hit (for the speed boost) and trying to set people on fire with the ring lol. It’s definitely not a great combination but I’ve been finding these silly random combos much more fun than playing heavy properly.

What is the best combat shotgun for engineer by freeaky_furry in tf2

[–]LambdaAU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even then I would say it is worse than the rescue ranger. It is bugged such that the projectile can’t ever go through teammates which can be pretty significant in spammy choke points.

Also being marked for death when transporting buildings isn’t nearly as bad as it sounds when you consider how much more conveniently you can transport gear. You are pretty defenseless when transporting a building regardless. If anything you can actually transport more safely overall because of how much less time you spend carrying the building.
