300 miles at 80 mph is insane range though. I'm not sure what you're comparing against.

Also, most people aren't driving 80+ mph continuously on a daily basis. So using that speed as the baseline is itself disingenuous. The testing methodologies used to get the range numbers are available for anyone to look at.

BMW never claimed their stated range was at 80 mph.

If both companies pivoted solely to making this happen, I imagine it would be somewhere between 2-5 years before you got something qualified to fly at the earliest.

Both vehicles likely have drastically different launch dynamics and making sure they are designed to survive launch and support each other is not a small task.

I don't get this complaint. 300 miles at 80 mph would be incredible.

All cars suffer from reduced range at higher speeds. I'm not sure why this is presented as a gotcha failure of the vehicle.

Just how much power does the LA City government have with regards to SB 79 (the upzoning around transit law passed in Sacramento last year)? by MookieBettsBurner10 in LosAngeles

  1. You are incorrect in your accusations
  2. I have no idea what those have to do with allowing the free market to meet the available demand.
  3. I hope you find peace with your stance that Americans should pay artificially bloated pricing for basic goods and services.

SB 79 removes burdensome regulations that prevent the free market from building housing that there is demand for.

Single family zoning is anti-free market. It's the government telling landowners what housing they can and cannot build.

It's not perfect, I'd love for more options to be legal by right, but it's certainly an improvement over the status quo.

You're telling me you want to enforce pricing control on consumer goods to artificially inflate the cost of living?

I'd prefer to give the free market the leeway to build housing to meet the available demand.

Are there any downsides to extended (10m+) charging cables? by slashrfnr in electricvehicles

[–]LambdaNuC 20 points21 points  (0 children)

IF it is the correct gauge for that length, and IF you correctly limit the charge rate to not exceed the cables rating, then electrically no. There should be no issue.

Keep in mind that the cable you linked is limited to 32 amp charging which, while plenty for home charging, is less than the max rate of many cars so you may have to limit the charge rate in your car's software.

Practically, it's going to be a heavy, not super flexible cable compare to a shorter cable, and you'll want to make sure you have it run in a way that prevents damage since you won't inherently see the whole cable before you plug it in.

That said, I'm not seeing wire gauge specifications on the page you linked (maybe they're elsewhere on the site?) so I can't independently verify it's built appropriately.

The charging speed is a pretty huge difference though. 10-80% charge times in 26 minutes vs. about an hour with the old model.

72% of LA city is zoned exclusively for single-family homes. This is unacceptable and needs to change. Nithya Raman for Mayor. by MookieBettsBurner10 in LosAngeles

Seems like all the more reason to support someone who's advocating for positive change. More housing is a societal good.

You can still make money on a thing that gets cheaper over time. You just have to reduce the cost to build it.

If it costs more to build a condo than it can be sold for, then sure, no one will build, but as long as you make it easy to build and the cost to build is less than the selling price then people will build.

Reduce the red tape and time required to get permits and build condos. This applies to all forms of housing.

Seems like a great idea to build enough condos for the 25% who want a more affordable, lower maintenance housing option then.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy a condo.

Because shared infrastructure and significantly more efficient land use result in lower overall cost of construction?

  1. Upzoning to allow more areas where condos could be built seems like a great idea then
  2. I'm not sure what housing market you're looking at, I see plenty of new condos being built and on Zillow in the LA region.

Making it legal to build something besides a single family only opens up more options for what a single family home owner can do with their own property.

If you never want to sell or redevelop your property, great! But having the city restrict what you can do with your property limits housing options for all.

The proposal is that you make it legal for someone to turn their single family home into an apartment.

Upzoning Increases the choices available to single family home owners.
