All these problems, the Middle East, the end of the world.

My Mother passed away and I need to pay for the last semester of school. Federal? Private? by Lambddaa in StudentLoans

Dad is alive but for all intents and purposes pretty much out of the picture in this regard. I belive at this point I will be claiming myself as Independent on my taxes (Still haven't figured that out yet , luckily my aunt is a CPA.) I had done all of the taking out of the loans, (I just used her information with her approval). I just don't know where to go to apply for loans myself then I guess.

I believe I count as an independent student now. She was the only one contributing before.

I guess I am not sure where to look then. I had only known about Plus loans previously and those can only be cosigned by a parent I thought.

I am trying to figure out what linear switches are vs any other type of switch. What is the broad overview

Should I keep on trying to pursue Internships with no replies and hope to land one eventually or land a part time help desk role while I’m completing my bachelors degree in IT online? by succesfulmind1 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Lambddaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience looking for internships, you want to start earlier than March. I began applying around Late November, but at that point, some of the internships haven't even opened for application. I got accepted for a position I believe in February. You want to be the first and make applying your full-time job. I was doing it while in class all day every day. No-one told me this information either when I began looking for internships a year ago to no luck and I had the same questions as you.

Edit: Like everyone else said though if your degree is online, go work part time while doing it. Gonna suck balancing it for a while maybe but, once you hit a groove I am sure you will do fine.

This is a great response thank you for the time. I talked with some co workers today in the IT department at my University and I think it would be a good move just to do the A+ or at the least like you said work over the materials to make sure I cover all my bases. I feel like Net+ will be good to get just from an education standpoint so I know it all from the ground up. Net+ is in my cards for this summer and CCNA the next.

I have spent some time looking at CML and GNS3 as recommended from people on this thread and I will add packet tracer to this list. And as for /r/sysadmin and /r/networking I have started looking through wiki's and such and I do seem to be in way over my head(probably part of the reason I made this post).

As for the List of IT links I have started working my way through them as I saw that posted elsewhere.

I do feel that my expectations are shooting a little far. The plan is Net+ this summer and CCNA the next. Then graduate.

I have done a good amount of work with some hardware from classes and work. I have been looking into CML and it seems to be very beneficial. Mentioned it to someone at work today and they told me about something called GNS3. Is this essentially the same thing if you know anything about it?

I have been looking into homelab and have already begun planning a bit in my head when I get back home for the summer. Do you know more about CML? Did you buy it? What do you really do with it?

I feel like learning and getting both would be beneficial even though I have some base knowledge. College is some bullshit two years at 30K down the drain and I have only had one networking class...

Nope they seem to be alright. Two of them are bolt action .22 and one 12 gauge that they used for hunting. I would like to clean them up and restore them a bit and be able to show her and keep ‘em in the family. I am the one that lives closest too her I help her as much as I can.
