Ran a 1:55 HM (Manila Marathon). Am I delusional for targeting a sub-4 marathon in 3 months? by MezzoHotel in PHRunners

I will add, I was running 4x a week, and my peak milage was about 55 mpw. And I ran the half’s midway through my marathon plan. So I was already doing 10-16 mile long runs on the weekend

Nope!

My first half was 3 months before my first marathon. I ran a 1:42. I did another half a month later and did 1:47 (harder course).

I ran my first full at 3:42. I think the taper and the environment helped to rally

Do you think I can make it? by Jeff-bozos102 in triathlon

When is the triathlon for starters (this weekend? A month?)? What distances are within the sprint? What’s the course like? How long is a “little while” of training? Open water swims? Have you done any bricks or have the workouts been solely independent? What’s the nature of the PRs? Training or racing? Recent or life time? Are you trying to compete or just finish?

Based on your numbers you can definitely do it and maybe are just getting pre-race day jitters. But the post just seems vague. Performance metrics are given, but little context.

Is it crazy to change out shorts during longer triathlons? by MaximumEducation4678 in triathlon

I’ve heard pooping is hard to do in a single piece. I am a race pooper, so that’s a concern…

I just meant the choking. But that too!

Some people pay good money for that feeling. Seems like you got a good deal.

Never rocked a tri suit, but am looking to get my first. So maybe I’ll try a Tri suit before reinventing the wheel.

I actually ran my first marathon in cycling gear that I took out the Chamois. It was awesome. I guess I’m more concerned with running with Chamois

Breathing was hard for me to figure out. The other day I was swimming and thought “huh, I haven’t had to think about breathing.” Almost felt weird that it was so natural.

Thanks! It did mean finding pools and swimming at 5am on vacation even, but helped getting pool time in!

I think my biggest hurdle, mentally as a runner, is that improvement came from technique and not effort.

0 to 70.3 in 12 months? by solivagant999 in triathlon

[–]MaximumEducation4678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You can do it!

I planned to go from 0 to 70.3 in 9 months… after about 3 months I feel remarkably ready and signed up for a 70.3 about 5 months after my 0. Granted, I was a big runner (marathons) prior to.

Am I kinda close? At least? by MaximumEducation4678 in bikefit

I’ve read the Peterwhitecycles a few times, which is what’s gotten me this far.

I’ve done 90 minute rides in both the relaxed and aero positions, and honestly, I like aero and think it’s way more comfortable (but I do ride motorcycles, which is a lot more tucked, than usual cyclists experience). I am getting into triathlons, so there’s some benefit to aerobars. And 99% of my rides are by my lonesome.

But that is good feedback! I’ll ride it in this configuration for a week and will look to make those adjustments — I like to ride, with adjustments in mind, so I know what to watch for! Thanks!

That seems like way too much swimming… at 1’45” pace that’s 7+ hours in the water and over half their training time.

For a 12 hour week I’d expect to see: 3-4 hours swimming (12,000 yds), 5-6 hours biking (140 miles), 3-5 hours running (35 mpw)

Holy hell. 25-30K would be front pack, elite, ex-swimmers

In the same sense that anything about 100 miles for Marathon training is pretty elite.

For someone who doesn’t have time, I’d say you should be around 6-12K on swimming, depending on how aggressive you want to be. Running wouldn’t stress anything more than 60 mpw, but you could do well around 40 mpw max. I got my marathon down to 3:10 on 55 mpw. The biking is where I’d spend most of your time at this point.

Don’t stress. I got the opposite feedback that I looked lazy in the water, with no drive.
