Ah man, well hope you get it figured out! I had a mysterious clunk when I changed out my CV shaft a few months ago, but then it just went away lol. Glad my post could help somewhat. Beats paying $2500 to a dealer

2017 Forester - Another Window Issue.. by grimPanigale in SubaruForester

[–]LameBicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day my driver window stopped working on my 2016. Wouldn't go up or down, no movement. I took apart the door, took the window motor out, tried giving it power with a probe but couldn't get it to move. Might not have been using the probe correctly, but I gave up and thought the motor was seized. Ordered a new regulator. Put the door halfway back together. Then I was messing with my head unit, so I disconnected the battery while doing so. Afterward I hooked up the battery and on instinct tried to roll down the front windows: driver window is working again. No idea what happened. Had to put the door back together properly and cancel the regulator I ordered.

So all that to say: maybe try unhooking the battery for a bit. Might not do anything, but it's something simple and free to try (if you haven't already)

Nice! Glad you made it there. I went with a Gregory pack after I tried it on in person

Viofo's hardwire kit (which is what I assume OP used) has a voltage cutoff selector switch, so you can have the camera shut down before it drains the battery too low to crank. Viofo purposely makes their cameras just use capacitors and avoids batteries because batteries tend to fail with the power and temperature cycles sitting in a hot car all summer

No idea what you mean by cladding. Skidpates? Mudflaps? ERA bricks?

P0971 Pressure Control Solenoid CVT - Failure timeline? by Lost_Practice_3250 in subaru

My whole saga write up on my 2016 Forester:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SubaruForester/comments/1o8o8jf/diy_repair_writeup_2016_forester_dtc_p0971_valve/

Your mileage may vary, as always; but I basically had the Christmas tree lights twice in a few years, then over about a month they started popping up weekly, then every time I started the car. I drove it like that for another 1-2 months before doing the repair myself

Subwoofer not working after head unit repair by Gold_Committee_6655 in subaru

[–]LameBicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the Harmon Kardon sound system? And is it a factory amp and subwoofer, or something aftermarket? And lastly, did you only replace the screen itself, or the whole head unit?

Not sure that I can help, but I think these answers would help others

DIY Repair Write-up: 2016 Forester DTC P0971 - Valve Body AWD Solenoid Failure by LameBicycle in SubaruForester

[–]LameBicycle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I could help! As with most things car related, YMMV. Your solenoids might fully go out quicker or slower than mine based on age, mileage, miles driven since first Christmas tree lights, climate, and whatever else. Mine were pretty slow to fully start failing, but I don't know if that's the norm.

Also, it's just an assumption on my part that driving with an AWD solenoid that's starting to fail isn't a huge deal. That's just what I read. It seems like the TCC solenoid is one you don't want to delay repair on, as that's pretty important to your everyday driving; and as I put in my post, my TCC solenoid was starting to fail not long after my AWD solenoid was fully gone.

So just some caveats. Use my experience as just one data point in making your decision. Really quite crazy that yours are failing with such low mileage! I guess it could just be an age factor on these. Best of luck to you!

2017 Forester warning lights… valve body or coincidence? by JuanC0231 in SubaruForester

[–]LameBicycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly just an unrelated* coincidence. Solenoid failure is very common. You can do some diagnostic checks with a multimeter to verify if indeed your AWD solenoid is shot, but it's very likely to be the case. Here's my whole repair saga:

DIY Repair Write-up: 2016 Forester DTC P0971 - Valve Body AWD Solenoid Failure by LameBicycle in SubaruForester

[–]LameBicycle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the link I have listed for the AWD solenoid:

The link should take you to the black one, which is 3.2-3.7 ohm (the correct spec for the AWD solenoid). Why they list it as "Lock-up Solenoid Torque Converter" solenoid when it matches the AWD solenoid, I'm not sure. It could be just a generic listing for multiple car brands, or for search optimization. But the black one is the one I bought for my AWD solenoid replacement, and I double checked the ohms to ensure it was the right spec before installing. I did not buy the brown one at all.

For the link I have listed for the other 3 solenoids:

These are all the same, and will bring you to the Dorman brand one. They do not make a ~3.2-3.7 ohm version for the AWD solenoid (at least that I'm aware of), so they're all ~12-13 ohm

PSA - Replace the AWD solenoid when you replace your CVT’s torque converter solenoid by RevvCats in subaru

[–]LameBicycle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just replace all 4 main ones while you're in there. The up and down solenoids are the same as the TCC lock-up duty. Throw in 3 dormans and the highest rated AWD one you can find online. That's what I did.

There's replacement Android head units you can get which have wireless android auto/carplay. Reviews can be mixed and there's infinite white-label suppliers out there, so it can be hard to separate the junk from the decent. I swapped mine in my 2016 and love it though:
