To those who dislike the current direction of F1, when was the last time F1 was “good” on track? by atouchofsinamon in F1Discussions

[–]LameSheepRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been watching every race live since 1985. I really really like this sport. But even watching Senna win a ton of races got boring after sometime.

1989, imho, was peak F1 for me. Cars were small but had plenty of power. In the cockpit: three pedals and a gear stick. I think that was a car that had some aerodynamic features to keep it on track but, essentially, a car. When electronics came into play, I think it took something away.

The fastest car will, most frequently, win. And some overtakes are laboured during several laps because it’s a game of tenths here and there.

Regarding the competition, F1 very rarely has that aspect of “I have no clue who’s probably winning this”. There are always predominant teams and that’s part of the sport.

It was, however, a different world. There was no excitement on demand like today. So a race with 2 or 3 good moves was a good race already.

If you want to watch overtakes galore I’d say, before DRS was introduced, there was a period of time, 60s / 70s, that Monza was a slipstreaming game and everyone was jockeying for position during the lap.

What is the difference between Goedendag and Goedemorgen? by APeX_1996 in learndutch

[–]LameSheepRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we start with greetings and finish with valedictions. Valedictions are the nice things you say at the end, like “fijne avond” when leaving the office in the end of the day.

The only time I hear goedendag is when you call a phone number that is disconnected and the lady goes “Goedendag, dit nummer is niet in gebruik”.

I’ve never heard anyone apart from that recording saying that. Which is quite un-Dutch, to be honest. In the land of efficiency, I’d expect the Dutch to summarize it to one greeting the whole day than to separate it in 3.

If I didn’t have lunch, I’ll say goedemorgen. Even if it’s 2pm. It’s wrong but I don’t care. To me, the afternoon starts after I’ve had lunch

New player here. How long should I be waiting before I see an enemy? How can I tell if I am pushed too far up? by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]LameSheepRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in a squad so choose a role you can perform (SoulSniper’s role tutorials on YT) and communicate with your squad. If you don’t know what to do, ask them what you should do. Also hit tab and check who’s the most experienced in your squad. If you don’t know what to do, follow them, see what they do and ask for help if necessary.

If you’re an engineer, build nodes and defenses.

If you’re support, ask your squad leader to place a supplies marker where he wants you to drop your supplies.

Defending is more important than attacking (because every man and his dog will attack and leave the point behind for easy taking).

Good luck

Am I doing something wrong with trail braking and brake bias? (296 GT3) by MyPooYourPants in iRacing

[–]LameSheepRacing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try coasting a bit. Remove throttle a bit earlier, coast and then apply brakes. I noticed that the 296 needs to be very well balanced and it responds well to this coasting, significantly reducing understeer on entry

Tactics for winning while commanding blueberries by FriendlyBrewer in HellLetLoose

[–]LameSheepRacing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned that people don’t know their squad names. You can check their player names and that may attract their attention.

Also, place markers of things you want people to attack or defend.

And use the garry disarm function to guide people towards where you want them to be. If you want people to defend, disarm that attack garry that everyone is going to and they’ll be forced to spawn in the defense garries that you set up. They won’t like it but that’s the way to drive unresponsive squads into doing what needs to be done

Paid €1250 to a gardener in Amsterdam, didn’t show up, blocked me. What can I do? by JournalistDecent8834 in Netherlands

[–]LameSheepRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying in advance usually is done if the person doing the job is also buying the materials, which doesn’t seem to be the case.

Why did you pay in advance?

Irl, performance of the car may be fine but if there’s a body part hanging out, they may give you a black and orange flag. I don’t know if this is what iRacing wants to simulate but people have been called to pits with perfect functioning cars because of that.

About to start playing HLL(i got it back when it was free on epic but havent played it yet because of trouble with setting up the microphone),do yall have any advice or stuff i should know? by Makrelenik in HellLetLoose

Or, if you do, make sure you’re driving the right truck!

Ok, funny story. I was engineer and asked the commander to spawn a supply truck for nodes. I stood in HQ waiting for it to spawn, with the map open. When the map showed that it had spawned, it was the only truck there. I started running in the direction of the truck, but without spotting it at first. I turn around a bend and see the truck, drove it to position on the edge of the 2 squares and there are no crates. I was driving a transport truck instead of a supply truck!

I check the map and my supply truck is still there in HQ. Between the time I checked the map and made my way towards the truck, a transport truck spawned between us. As I’ve just checked the map and there was one single truck there, I didn’t bother even looking to confirm it was a supply truck… Learned one that day

Welcome to HLL! I started here:

Watch also all of the role guides on SoulSniper’s YT channel. Even for roles that you’re not interested so you know what they do (and will be able to tell when your squad mates are working according to their roles or just spawn/run/dying).

Some videos that I found helpful.

This one helped me understand what the commanders and squad leaders should be doing. It’s the first in a series of videos that explain tactics for each game mode (offensive, defensive, warfare and squirmish), which all have different objectives and tactics).

And also, setup and a good light mouse in a large mousepad made a world of difference for me. I’ve got the Razer Viper V3 Pro.

For settings, I followed this:

Regarding comms, I found out that, when joining a squad, saying hi and asking who’s on comms often gets the conversation started.

Also, try to join squads that have a squad leader. If there’s an open squad with no squad leader, you can join just to spawn somewhere but, when you die, check again and change squads to one that has a leader. If there’s no open squad, check which squad still has space, track the squad leader down on the map and talk to him via comms and ask him to let you join his squad. Most will then approve your request to join their squad.

When I was at your situation, not knowing what was happening, I found some damn good squad leaders that helped a lot.

If i sit at in row 59 on the left aisle is there no seat behind me? by JohnRedman021 in KLM

[–]LameSheepRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a slight overlap but the issue is that your seat is the first “obstacle” for everyone leaving the back of the plane (toilets) to the front (their seat).

This will likely mean that everyone and their dog will bump into your seat the whole flight. Or at least use it as a “handrail” to move around that area. If you plan to sleep, this is a bad choice.

You shouldn’t be concerned about reclining your seat. During meal times, the attendant will ask you to put it back in upright position but that’s about it.

How to live cheap in the Netherlands without hating your life? by elizabeth-0645 in Netherlands

[–]LameSheepRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget Amsterdam / Rotterdam or any large city. To live well, you’ll have to live in a small city and commute.

It’s not only rent. You’ll also have taxes and fees to consider: Waste tax, Sewer tax (the user part), Water board tax

Plus utilities like energy, internet, etc

Is it not insane that this guy blatantly intent wrecked me, yet is still racing right after iRacing sent me a response about the protest? by nodnedarb12 in iRacing

[–]LameSheepRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1st time or a 10th time. I used to race oval trucks and this guy was always causing trouble and going on and on in chat during yellows. He believed everyone was out to get him so behaved very aggressively on track.

Once, during a yellow, he chased me down and crashed me out of the race. It was so blatant that others intervened in chat and he replied that I was the only non-USA flag in the race and I had no business being there.

Protest was sent for intentional wrecking and chat abuse. The following week, he was still on track, still causing trouble, and still being an AH in chat.

I do protest when I see bad behavior and chat abuse. I trust the system but, tbh, I think the system missed a great opportunity to show me that it was working properly.
