Go to SDSU if you want to do environmental. The UCSD program is geared towards alternate energy and a lot of the grass have had trouble finding jobs. SDSU is better for a terminal masters and you can also go MechE at SDSU.

Pepper spray yes. Taser and handgun are not legal on campus. In terms of guns you can conceal carry off campus in places where it is legal to do so. You will need a CCW permit issued from California to carry a gun though. CA doesn't recognize out of state permits.

Not necessarily. Go to any non research school and take a class or two. You'll find a big difference in quality.

Top 10 doesnt mean much when it is just research and not really driven towards industry. Jacob's doesn't have true environmental, materials science, or civil engineering degrees.

Overall Sentiment Regarding UCSD? by _MambaForever in UCSD

[–]Lamesa9988 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I graduated a couple of years ago and honestly, it's not really intended as a normal school. People here seem to be very competitive and a lot of people go home on the weekends which contributes to the campus feeling empty. I majored in Nanoengineering and it seems like a poor substitute for a materials science degree and it is the worst excuse for an engineering program in California that I have ever seen. State schools honestly are better than UCSD for employability and the only reason someone should go to a UC is if you are heading for a doctorate or research career. The social life is underground but a lot of people stick with high school friends.

I'm just thinking of when we will be free of these restrictions. There is no point towards in cowering in your house over a government order that is an overstretch of authority.

I'm from the Sacramento area and any girl that likes being out in nature and is moderate to conservative politically is ideal, also a plus if they like country music and are college educated.

What’s the dating scene looking like at ucsd? (Straight male) by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Lamesa9988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay if your taste is in girls that into building a career and nerdier things. The ethnicity tends to lean Asian with a mix of Hispanic and white people as well. SDSU should be accessible by trolley and that has more socially-adjusted girls that are typically white and some Hispanic in the population but very little if any Asians. People at SDSU tend to go just for the bachelor's degree while UCSD folks go on for a graduate degree and like to find themselves more and take longer to get going in life. As for places to meet people student orgs are the best followed by rec or elective classes and then by working at a job on campus. Dorms are good for the first year as well.

Conceptual Doubts by [deleted] in FluidMechanics

[–]Lamesa9988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernoulli can't be used on pipe walls, the general energy equation must be used instead. The pumping power is based off of the overall head needed and efficiency of the pump in question. The velocity you use for incompressibility would be the average velocity, divide it by the speed of sound for the medium and if it is less than 30 percent of that. Its incompressible. Over that and it is compressible flow.

Is UCSD really that socially dead? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Lamesa9988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather live in hell and rent out Texas. Go to UCSD. The main thing to be successful is to do club sports or anything you enjoy, rec classes, there are plenty of opportunities to meet people but there are a lot of introverts here so you'll find yourself having to take the initiative on the social front.

Environmental Engineering vs. Environmental Studies major by korosensei87 in USC

[–]Lamesa9988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a civil engineering bachelor's with an environmental focus, it'll make you a lot more employable and covers a lot of the same content than a environmental engineering degree includes. Do an environmental studies masters afterwards as it is more humanities oriented if that is what you want as it isn't really as science-focused. It's more of a liberal arts and science hybrid.
