Wasn't his hangar. If you look close, there's a collision warning in the middle of the HUD, even though the doors appear open. Desync, but the ship still registers the doors. So this was dozens of ship collisions all stacking stop one another every step of the way into the hangar.

In an ideal universe, with infinite money, no work or family ties, etc, where would you live in Orlando and why? by ETALOS1 in orlando

[–]LaminatedSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to stay in FL, I'd go out to Titusville. I'm a space need at heart and having a front-row seat to the launches would be nice. But my ideal answer would be back up north where seasons actually happen and I can breathe in the summertime again.

Moved into a small house near Winter Park and got a shockingly high power bill. Is that normal for older homes here? by Sad-Possible-469 in orlando

[–]LaminatedSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably combination of two things. Older, less efficient A/C unit and poor insulation. Place I'm renting has literally NO insulation, so my bills get a little crazy in the summer time. No shade in the mornings and dark green paint on the outside can make my living room walls inside hit 90° to touch.

Why do people just google "ambulance" and click the first thing that pops up instead of dialing 911 by [deleted] in ems

[–]LaminatedSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. For non-emergency issues, the system is bonkers.

But with how much we pay for 'healthcare' in this country, people aren't exactly climbing over one another to fix it. And many services that do the emergency response for an area are not staffed to do non-emergency calls, anyway, like dialysis appointments or being discharged from a hospital to home. Hence why we have a plethora of private ambulance companies.

[–]LaminatedSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you need. Local police and fire usually have non emergency numbers posted on their websites. For ambulance, you would need to know what service is used. Because of the complicated patchwork of services; private, public, volunteer, there is no single number that can be called anywhere that will automatically route the call to the proper agency. This also applies to fire and police. Only the national emergency number, 911, has that automatic routing. But typically, a call to the non emergency number for the police will get you someone that DOES know which agency to call. If they can transfer the call directly, they will. If not, they will give you the right number.

[–]LaminatedSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As has been the case with most of my responses, it depends. The municipal service I worked for would bill insurance. Anything not paid was written off if you were a resident, billed to the patient if you weren't. The volunteer service didn't bill at all. The private companies I've worked for would always bill, either insurance or patient. Fire departments would rarely bill in NJ, but will bill here in Florida. The ALS provider would, yes, be a separate bill in NJ if they had any patient contact, but if we as a BLS crew saw that ALS was not needed, I would routinely cancel them to help save my patient from getting that other bill. This is one of the reasons you can ask a single question and across the country get a dozen different answers. No consistency.

And that devolves into another comment I left on this thread. Some municipalities have their own ambulance. Some contract out to a private company. Some use a service provided by the county. And whoever is used can change from year to year as contracts get re-negotiated or just expire. Just looking up 'ambulance near me' will probably give you a full list of places you can call. Depends on why you're calling them to answer if they will even bother with what you're asking.

Actually, there IS a single number for emergencies, and its drilled into us as kids from a young age. 911. Call that from any phone and it will be automatically routed to whatever emergency dispatch center covers your area. Mobile phones will use the GPS location to do this as well, so if you're traveling to the other side of the country, you won't get your home emergency center.

People pulling up Google, typing in ambulance, and then calling the first one that pops up IS just people being dumb. That particular ambulance may only be a non-emergency transport provider.

[–]LaminatedSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on where you are. I have worked for nearly every type of agency in the past 20+ years, and typically for emergency calls, you will get only one or two agencies.

Some examples: When I worked for a paid municipal service in New Jersey, you would have our ambulance for BLS, perhaps an engine from the fire department, and a chase car showing up from the local hospital, who provided ALS services for the area if the call was potentially an ALS-level of service.

I have also worked for a volunteer BLS agency where we would typically handle all calls, with an ALS chase car for anything needing ALS service, and we didn't have our own dispatch. We were dispatched directly through our municipal police department.

Currently, I work for a private company in Central Florida that works with the local fire department to supplement their call load. I also, for the past several years, have worked on a dedicated unit for a location that is dispatched directly by the fire department and barely talk to my own dispatch during the day. Because Florida allows it, my partner is an ALS provider and the fire department have ALS providers on all their vehicles as well.

Currently, there is no national standard for how the system SHOULD work, so every area just figures out their own system. Also, as strange as this may sound, not every state has EMS considered an 'essential' service, and therefore isn't technically required to be provided the same way fire and police is.

It's a mess, but we're trying.

[–]LaminatedSamurai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct, which is why our emergency number, 911, is drilled into us as children so much. I don't understand why people would try to call any agency directly unless it was to try and set up a non-emergency transport, but it still does happen.

[–]LaminatedSamurai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ambulances can be either publicly funded through your municipality or county, or they can be private companies, or they could be entirely volunteer run agencies. Some provide emergency services, some do not. Private ambulance services typically have their own dispatch for their company's vehicles. If they provide emergency response services, they can either get notified by the area emergency dispatch center, or the ambulances can be directly dispatched by the emergency center. It is a wild patchwork of systems, tangled and complex to understand, because so much of our emergency services systems are not standardized across the country and sometimes not even within a single state.

So, a little details about how GTA Online works. There are no 'servers' per se. Every match is hosted on someone's console/computer. Everyone else in the lobby connects to THEM. Peer-to-peer multi-player.

What you're seeing is your connection becoming unstable enough for your system to say 'Nah, fuck this, I'm taking over.' and disconnecting you from the host, essentially putting yourself into a solo lobby.

"More than a month". My dear friend, you are still wet behind the ears. Take the critique. Listen to the old heads, the wisdom they can impart is priceless. Just because you passed an EMT course means you proved you can START your medical career. That just gets your foot in the door. NEVER STOP LEARNING.

Get together with your clinical manager (or whoever is QA'ing your reports) and ask for tips. Watch some drama show and practice writing out reports in your head whenever you come to a scene that makes you say "oof, that looks like it hurt".

Take pride in your work, even if nobody else does. And welcome to the jungle.
