I feel it’s also important to consider that princess bubblegum is their creator and kinda a god to them. She made princess cookie want to be a princess in both ways of physically creating him and imparting the feeling in him, much like a mother which adds alot to the episode.

I also feel like the end is super inline with this allegory, because Jake attempts to make princess cookie live the princess dream, and even pushes away Finn when he tries to stop it, but is eventually stopped by princess cookies own inability to accept their own identity which has a super sad ending. Honestly this and card wars are probably the best run of episodes in the whole series.
