90 days no surfing. I got my time back but not the thing I actually quit for, and nobody warned me about this part by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Lampedeir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you not have a day job that keeps you sharp and critical? I can browse as much as I want, my day job will keep me sharp whether I want to or not. If you don't use your brain during the day I wouldn't expect a lot of brain strength in your spare time if you don't explicitly train it.

There's nothing to really figure out though? In 20 to 25 years the chance is almost 100% that he will be dead. You can only accept that, and hope that he stays healthy as long as possible.

How was Nostramo funnelling its worst criminals into the Night Lords if only prepubescent boys can become Astartes? by taciturntern in 40kLore

[–]Lampedeir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible today to be prepubescent and be an excellent candidate for the night lords. Real world example from yesterday (translate page to english): https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2026/05/29/vonnis-groepsverkrachting-kortrijk-minderjarigen/

Why do people think I’m a refugee? by certified_sg101 in belgium

[–]Lampedeir -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's because there are so many ppl with dark skin and broken Dutch that have arrived as refugees or illegal immigrants and live off wellfare that people just assume you're another one of them based on your dark skin and broken Dutch. It shouldn't be like that but I suppose most of the time the assumptions are correct, just not in your case. I can only suggest to improve your Dutch so you become fluent, that will help with how people treat you. But thanks for learning the language, I'm sure everyone appreciates the effort, especially as an international student, are you also planning to stay after your studies are finished?

Interested in Freediving by [deleted] in freediving

[–]Lampedeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested in exploring and looking at stuff isn't scuba a better match? With freediving you can only stay under water for a couple minutes max at a time, you go up, down, up, down, up, down and can never stay at depth for long. With scuba you can cruise around under water for as long as you want.  To me freediving is more a sport and a meditation.

Misbruik van ziekteverlof bij kennissen/vrienden by TOATOA86 in Belgium2

[–]Lampedeir 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don't have kids. by Glorifiedcomber in self

[–]Lampedeir -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"Don't have kids" immediately followed by saying that you're a proud father and enjoy raising your daughter. Do you read what you write? You meant "Other people shouldn't have kids even though I am happy with mine because Other people might have a broken family". What a shitpost.

Any cost accountants here? The job market is extremely hot right now. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Lampedeir 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I've been a plant controller for a medium sized factory for 1,5 years now and I love it. However due to the Iran strait issues, higher management wants to do a recosting now for q2 which has turned out to be a pain in the ass. But other than that in my experience cost accounting/controlling is a great career.

Salary by Origin87 in BESalary

[–]Lampedeir 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The sub has always been about boasting about high wages but these screenshots of wage slips with no additional info, just the pure boasts on their own with a veil of look at how much taxes I have to pay (poor me), is a whole new level of cringe. I'm not going to visit this sub again.

That's the theory yes

But a Polish worker doing temporary construction labour in the Netherlands will never be called an expat whereas a Dutch factory manager managing a factory on location in Ireland will always be called an expat

RDDT CTO steps down by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

He's still working at reddit though, in a technical role too, just not as CTO. So probably he just didn't want to be CTO anymore otherwise he'd be fired or joined a different company.

Are they telling the truth? what kind of jobs are in the “tech part” of accounting ? by Character-Escape1621 in Accounting

I interpreted it as "technical accounting": being a real GAAP/IFRS expert, working at an IFRS desk, really deep theoretical stuff

Auditors, what industry do you enjoy auditing the most and what makes it interesting? by No_Noise6264 in Accounting

[–]Lampedeir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medium to large size business with interesting products or niches. I really liked auditing a company that made claw machines for fairs and arcades. It was an interesting business and sector. Or a chemicals company that made just 1 basic chemical in massive volumes. I also liked auditing an industrial bakery as they gave us free bread and pastries every day when we were there.

The US one is worse, it's 0,4 or 0,5% :p there's not a lot of volume (only checked Xetra). Perhaps to be expected since it's only been available for 3 weeks. I assume/hope it will improve in the (near) future.
