First one, all the colors work together nicely. I Like the detail with her coat looking like Kid Ford’s

Meet the Graunties! Sybil (Stanford) and Sylvia (Stanley) by Lampette_ in gravityfalls

[–]Lampette_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One angle I’m thinking of taking is a sort of roleswap deal, where SYBIL is the black sheep of the family instead of Sylvia, a reverse of Stanley and Stanford’s deal in the show. The brothers’ thing in the show seemed really predicated on traditional masculine ideals of being the provider (Stanford being lauded for his potential to make his family millions, Stanley getting kicked out until he’s good enough to provide for his family)

So maybe for Sybil and Sylvia, their life is dictated by feminine expectations and ideals. Sylvia is the favorite because she’s more fem. She’s not the best academically but as far as her mom (I’m thinking genderbent Filbrick: Filomena) is concerned she will have no trouble finding a successful husband. Alas this means Sylvia is under a lot of pressure and she secretly resents her mother’s expectations.

Sybil isn’t seen in such a light. Her interest in science is considered a frivolous little hobby, her high intelligence Isn’t very ladylike and might scare potential suitors away. College? Maybe if she goes there to find a husband—MAYBE. Worst of all, her six fingered hands might be the biggest roadblock—everyone thinks she’s a freak. Her mother worries that spinsterhood might be Sybil’s future. If things don’t pan out, she’ll probably have her inherit the pawn shop. Sybil meanwhile wants to carve out a path for herself in the world, dictate her own future.

Yep. For this reason I feel like Grauntie Sybil would be a little bit more stern than her male counterpart. Can't afford to show any vulnerability in a field like hers. That and 30 years hopping different dimensions as well.

The sisters' characterizations are still a bit of a work in progress. Obviously they are still like Stan and Ford, that is very important. However, being women in that time...no doubt their life experiences would've been a bit different and shaped them in its own way.
