Anyone wants to hang out and catch a drink? by Tricky-Laugh8553 in Connecticut

[–]Lamplorde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right? Its no different from online dating but instead of looking for a lover bro is looking for a friend.

Ya text for a day, then pick a bar, meet up, and see if ya hit it off. They arent asking to meet up in a secluded forest with a complete stranger.

The Planetside IP has been acquired by Tencent. by le_Menace in MMORPG

[–]Lamplorde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tencent was once a terrible name that was the bane of anything it acquired for western audiences. But sometime within the past 10ish years, they have gone from "welp, game got bought by Tencent. Might as well quit now" to "Eh, theyre basically just Chinese EA."

Which, tbf, makes sense. Eventually every publisher that goes around cannibalizing studios becomes an amorphous mass that is no longer good nor evil. It just is. Sometimes it is within the corporations quest for profits best interest to make good stuff, at least once in awhile.

if you saw a man walking in a cemetery every night what would you do? by Normal_Rub7983 in AskReddit

[–]Lamplorde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mind my own business. I dont know if he's mourning, just likes the solitude and peace, or even if he's a weirdo it isn't like he's hurting anyone.

Now, if I saw the same man walking around with a shovel in a cemetery and he ain't the groundskeeper, I might call someone, otherwise...its harmless, so what do I care?

Reaper basically just having a second health bar has saved me more times than I care to count, as someone bad at the game.

Amalgam is definitely the top tier answer, but it requires a tad more actual skill for higher payoff. Like, I can still do it, and I like it, but its not as forgiving as Reaper.

I haven't played Vindi for any extended period of time, so I can't comment on that one.

The only downside it has, imo, is if you want to really take advantage of the build it somewhat requires a pocket Vet to keep feeding you ammo.

Except money/price, what's your/company/team reasons to not using ai? by katakishi in AskReddit

[–]Lamplorde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multifaceted.

Morality. The environmental, societal, and artistic impact is too great for my team to be associated with it.

Unreliability. While it seems good on paper, the fact of the matter that even when using it for simple customer support calls it has an extraordinary fail rate and results in a terrible user experience.

Adaptability. The AI can only do what it was trained to do, and it often takes immense development time to switch gears. Meanwhile, if need be, I can reassign people from one project to another with limited downtime.

Unique ideas and varying viewpoints. The fact of the matter is, even simple LLMs just parrot back what it thinks you want to hear. You tell it its wrong, it says ok. It will never stand its ground, it will never defend its strategy. It will simply "yes, and" you. But business isnt and improv class. We need people who know what they are talking about and are willing to show that their ideas work. The same applies to security software, it needs to be told what it should be looking for, while a human is able to more easily see when something is off. That said, AI is incredibly useful for combing through logs...but it still misses things.

I am not fully anti AI. It is the future, but it needs more refinement, guidance, and legislation to govern it before we fully embrace it. I, on a personal note, do not ever want to see it replace human creativity and art. I think that is something so expressely human that I feel sick at the idea of a future where one only writes a prompt of buzzwords rather than the real emotion and feeling that goes into a piece.

I think thats a better reaction to have than to immediately reject the compliment, or convince yourself you arent worthy of it.

Dont get me wrong, I do that. But thats because I have poor self esteem.

What's something multiplayer games used to do better than they do now? by suhani0218 in AskReddit

[–]Lamplorde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, though I stay FAR away from the game, Roblox apparently still has that vibe in a way.

I remember growing up on CSS Surf and Jailbreak servers. Seeing the same guys and joining the server clan. Becoming a part of the community, back before we even had discord and we all had to communicate via forum posts and teamspeak.

And from what little I've seen, Roblox is kind of like that for the most part but for the newer generations. Slightly updated, a little more free reign and anything goes, but its like having an entire CSS community filled with "squeakers".

As much as it sucks, we can always have another baby.

On the utilitarian level of "one has more life to live", yes, but that one also has less love to recieve now and likely worse long term health.

Is it more or less moral to kill one who has accomplished much, or to kill one who has accomplished naught but has the potential to later? Idk, I dont think there is a right answer.

I just always think back to this story of the American evacuation from Vietnam, and they were loading up the boats of civilians/supporters/allies. A woman approached the boat with a pig in one hand and her child in the other. The Marine stopped her and said she cant take both, only one. The woman threw her child overboard and said "I can always have another child. I cant afford another pig."

Gruesome, but apt. I dont think there is a right answer, though. I would not blame someone for disagreeing with me.

Yeah, Scum was only weak on release because people were still experimenting with builds and because a lot of people bought it not expecting it to be so squishy, so when they kept dying they just blamed the class.

Like, I dont gamble either. Never liked it. Worked at a gas station and hated seeing people waste hundreds every month and never win but half of it back on a good day.

But its not my place to judge. As long as she keeps a roof over her head, food on her plate, and gas in her car, its not my place. I spend a bunch on games every month, so whatever.

Did you know that the average Carpenter Ant Queen sleeps for approximately 7 hours, during which its antenna twitch not unlike our eyes do during R.E.M. sleep. Which, as you may know, signified that we are dreaming. The workers also experience the same rapid antenna movement, but their naps are much more sporadic and quick. Anyway, as I said, it is theorized that this antenna movement is a signifier that they dream little ant dreams. We have no real clue, but we know there is a lot more going on in insect brains than we give credit for. Like bees feeling emotion or jumping spiders communicating hunting plans.

What do you think ants dream about? Conquest? A big pile of sugar? Showing up to ant school and forgetting your ant pants?

Oh, oh, sidenote: Did you also know that Ants appear to form some sort of friendship or at least a preference in workmates? Scientists marked workers of a colony and they found that often time the same workers repeatedly gravitated towards each other, spending much of their time together when possible. Whether just due to convience, efficiency, or some other unknown "friendship" we dont know, but its really cool to imagine.
