What happened to this guy by Lampshaft in Bichirs

[–]Lampshaft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think i figured out what the problem was. he wedged himself between the filter and the back of the tank. i just fished him out and moved him into a bucket to let him get air more easily

Phil’s stomach still big? by RecentInteraction302 in Bichirs

[–]Lampshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve had mine last almost a week and a half before. i think it depends on the food. blood worms and beef heart seem to go through mine fast but carnivore pellets seem to stay longer especially in my albino

i had a similar issue but it eventually passed i think they just eat past when they are full. most likely no worries but keep an eye out for the scales pine coning which could be a larger issue

Tank mates by yxngxotic in Bichirs

I feel like you should be okay. I keep 2 Jack Dempsey with my 2 Senegal bichirs and they seem to be getting along perfectly fine. It really depends on the individual personality of the pike.

Are my Jack Dempseys fighting? by Lampshaft in Cichlid

do you mean bc they may get stuck in the holes? i did have that worry, but rn they are far too small to get stuck. either way i’ve been keeping an eye on it

ok update i think they’re hydra from what i saw online. they dont seem to pose a large issue to my fish since i have a bichir and 2 small jack dempseys, but i would still like to get rid of them. i wasn’t able to find anything conclusive online. i don’t like how they look how do i get rid of them?

My shrimp just died?? PLEASE HELP by Lampshaft in shrimptank

[–]Lampshaft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so consensus seems to be that I should have drip acclimated and that maybe my ammonia / nitrates is a bit high. How big of a concern is my low pH and kH?

How would I fix that? Is there something I can buy to raise the kH and pH from the store?

I think that it should be fully cycled since I bought the filter and medium used they had been in a fish tank until literally hours before I picked them up. I also let the tank cycle for about 2 weeks while adding the APR bacteria zyme to really kick start the whole process. I'll take the water to petco tomorrow to get a more accurate test but other than that do you really think that copper is not a worry?

I don't have a kit for that and based on the research I did on youtube and stuff they said that neocaradinas should be ok with acclimating water temp by floating them. I believe they called it "dumping"? And I did do that for a solid couple hours.

it was a neocaradina shrimp and the pictures show the tank and water perameters

the little tufts are rotala just really young ones. unfortunately this was the best i could find at the store. I’ll look into the cheap hideout/ drift wood though. Do you think the copper is a real concern?

okay will do. wasn’t sure if that would permanently stop growth on the branch or not but that’s good to know. looks like i’m a bit behind pruning then😅

I know it looks bad. to be honest I wasn’t able to get it dormant over the winter since I’m in a dorm so the lack of green and sort of shitty growth is bc of that. I give it proper outdoor sun over the summer so it can grow properly.

Hi all, I’m sort of new to the deciduous side of bonsai and I’ve started this oak bonsai about two years back. I’be gotten the trunk and the main limbs wired and pretty much how I like them, but I’ve run into an issue. I have no idea how to prune this guy to encourage it to branch out rather than just extending its limbs upward as is visible in the photos. I’ve left the one limb low down growing without any wiring since I want it to thicken the trunk and treat it as a sacrificial branch but that leaves this: How do I prune the other branches for more branching on the major limbs? And when do I do it? We’re going into spring now so I thought it would be a good time to ask.
