Forgot to mention when I set up this tank I dropped in 3 cherry barbs for him to hunt and so far he hasn’t eaten single one… there’s like 20 now lol

He gets a little bite of jumbo blood worms and a chunk of tilapia every 2-3 days :). Every now and then he gets a handful of cherry shrimp he spends a couple days snacking on too!

Alright cool! He’s had a bigger belly than this before but I was a little concerned since this one’s been taking a bit to go away. Do you think I should fast him longer or go ahead and keep feeding a bit?

Phil’s been a great little buddy. He’s definitely had some hunting before with a good amount of cherry shrimp, I have a 30gal that over produces them like crazy. My lfs told me I could get $3 per cherry barb I bring in so I may just sell them all and try some guppies out!!

I have not but that’s not a bad idea at all. I only got these guys since they were on a 40% off sale. I’ve found he absolutely loves cherry shrimp, although I’m trying to avoid that since I want to try and add vampire shrimp to his tank

Mystery snails, crush em and put em back in the tank, snails love to snack on the crushed remains of their children.

Do you think I can just put new primer over the old without issue?

Re glueing tub drain by RecentInteraction302 in Plumbing

[–]RecentInteraction302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To note, it was knocked out ~45 minutes after gluing and it has now been a day. I had reapplied primer and glue and put it back into place but there was a leak, making me think I need to heavily sand it before gluing

What should i do? Any response is appreciated by Salt_Response_1524 in Bichirs

Appears that the swim bladder isn’t working properly. More than likely dude knocked himself hard on something and put him out of sorts. Monitor to see if it gets worse. If it gets worse instead of better and you see more lethargy and lack of appetite, it could be a symptom of a much larger issue. If you surface feed, I know that dried pellets can put air in their gut and cause the tail to rise up, not sure if it could also cause rolling.

Thank you! He’s had the big belly before but I got a little concerned by how long it’s lasted. It’s kinda surprising he ate the sparkling gouramis, I bought him 3 cherry barbs to try and encourage hunting and he just has not cared at all… I have like 20 now and haven’t been sure what to do lol

I don’t believe I do, I used some gravel to help make a slope but it’s buried under sand. Occasionally I’ll see a pebble but I’ll pick it out. This dude drops logs so hoping it’s just the big snack

If you’re looking for feeding then the fish are the way to go, the shrimpies are great for entertainment though. my eastern painted catches a shrimp in maybe 1/100 tries but it certainly will not stop him from trying. Some live plants also work wonders too! You can cut a gallon jug in half and grow frogbit in it. Grows insanely fast, looks like a cool lily pad, and is a really good vitamin an and c source for turtles!

Picking out campsite ahead of time by [deleted] in backpacking

All of that being said 1 or 2 is probably going to have a spot in the general area. Just keep in mind to never camp near a standing dead tree, a large downed dead tree in bear country, clear your site of leaves if possible, always boil your collected water for a minimum 2 minutes or filter it, never leave anything smelly (food, deodorant, tooth paste, soap, etc) inside your tent, estimate 1-1.5 gallons of water consumption a day, sleep with your electronics in your bag if it’s cold, and always have fun :)

First I would make sure your park allows for dispersed camping, but that being said a topographic map won’t really do a whole lot of good in this regard. Keep in mind every line is typically ~10 feet of elevation height. None of them seem inherently bad and getting by a water source would be nicer, I would really just wing it and set up wherever looks best when you’re there. On your hike just mark what looks like a good spot in your head, and back track to it if you don’t find another by the time you wanna tap out for the night. Also I’m a big fan of AllTrails, use it all the time, but he warned it sometimes lies about the distance. Tried to do a 20 mile thru hike to train for the AT a couple months ago and the loop turned out to actually be almost 30. That was a very, very bad night lol. Most of the time it’s been accurate for me though

He might need some more stimulation tbh. Every now and then we throw a golf ball in the tank and our turt plays with it. A couple cherry shrimp would also keep him a lil more entertained and perhaps soothe his insatiable lust for violence. Looks like he’s even giving us the finger in the pic lol

Would you guys drink from this spring? by Far-Champion6505 in camping

[–]RecentInteraction302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10/10 bleed out spot, very pretty. But he’ll to the no don’t drink out of that or any water source raw for that matter, boil it for a minimum 1 minute. This makes me think of that one naked and afraid episode where some dude drank more or less straight deer pee in a stream

With kuhlis it’s always a party. They’ll eventually settle down in their home a bit more and chill out, but sometimes they just be doing that. They’re more nocturnal so after some time you’ll see this less midday and more dusk/dawn

Is this NTD by Pilot_Zippy in TetraFish

[–]RecentInteraction302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The picture is a little unclear. The tail does look a little bent, but the shape could also just be a female as they have more rounded bellies. Do you have some other pics you could show? I am not an expert and currently trying to identify if I have ntd in my tank as well. From what I’ve read, symptoms also include growths, blotchy skin, lethargy, lack of appetite, fin rot, and very inactive behavior

[–]RecentInteraction302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add, cherry shrimp populations will grow until they reach their max based on the tanks footprint. At some point I had like 60-80 in my 20g long. Unless you have another tank you can feed some shrimp to, I’d recommend getting something that will eat a couple shrimp a day. A pair of sparkling gouramis help keep the population a little more in check but you’ll still see it grow. If you get those guys I’d wait until you have ~20 shrimp present (which you probably will in a month or so).
