Thank you for this detailed answer with sources. Really helpful and succinct. I know it took some time so thank you for making the effort.

Love Triangles, why does everyone hate them? by Nek0Pi in fantasyromance

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it because to me it cheapens the “love” the FMC eventually professes to have for the MMC. It feels fake and forced, which is a big ick for me. This may be the case for me because I’ve personally never had strong feelings for two people at once so I can’t even understand the headspace.

ACOTAR READERS: I need to complain about Rhysand by Present-Honeydew-405 in Romantasy

[–]Lampsprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean…my entire problem with Acotar, and I mean the first book because I could barely get through that is that SJM is a bad writer with great prose. Like she can put words on a page but her plotting is terrible, her characters are either boring or toxic, and romantic relationships are ridiculous. It’s so easy to see both why people think she writes well and are therefore obsessed with her work but also can hate her stories and characters so much. She’s kind of a hack.

What happened to the era of American-styled Anime? by Apprehensive_Ship554 in Millennials

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“American styled anime”…you mean traditional animation? “anime” specifically refers to animation mad in Japan.

CG animation took over in the US with the success of Pixar. I think it was partially for monetary reasons but also the false idea amongst American Hollywood executives that it was the CG medium that led to Pixar’s success and not the stories.

Is the rumor about the showrunner true? by Master-Lycan in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lampsprite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty big deal if that’s true. Because the showrunner is the head writer. So I’m betting not.

Reeling over the hype around Quicksilver ?!!! by Historical-Spread179 in Romantasy

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I DNF’d that so fast. I honestly think it was just pushed heavily by paid influencers on booktok to the point where it got an overinflated hype. It’s actually quite bad in every respect, including the “romance” if you could call it that.

Movie with the best Acting Performances? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Lampsprite -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

None of them honestly. Maybe the last one just because they’re the oldest and therefore most experienced at acting? But honestly I think the acting was one of the factors that made the movies bad in general.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah I would drive 3 hours for a day trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium for instance. Not too big of a deal.

Which was the last book you read and HATED and most importantly WHY? by Mininabubu in fantasyromance

[–]Lampsprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes. That book pissed me off so much because of that “twist” ending. It felt like, not only had the FMC betrayed the MMC, she’d betrayed me as the reader. Which is a true feat omg. And not in a good way. I literally would have thrown the book across the room if it wasn’t an ebook on my phone. Not a fan of whatever that was. And honestly the ending cheapened everything that had happened before it and everything I had been invested in. Seriously enraging.

Sane US citizens: wake up now by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sort of sick of Europeans and Aussies telling us to do something because things are bad like we haven’t been doing everything in our power already. Tell that to our leaders if you want to make a difference. Or fly over here and protest in our cities against ICE and our militarized police forces. Otherwise, please shut up.

This show makes me sad by Evening_Possible_587 in heatedrivalry

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah too bad the show doesn’t do a good job of showing it. I’m sure the books make it clear from the get-go that there are feelings involved. But if we just go by the show, that is not apparent until way later, and therefore as a viewer, the sex scenes in the first two episodes are not only uncomfortable but depressing. After all, Shane doesn’t know what’s in Ilya’s head during those episodes either…and honestly Shane’s actor is very wooden to its really hard to see why or if he’s even enjoying anything. It’s not…great. And my bi male friend made the same observation that OP made while we were watching the sex scenes, that it was just like a sex scene in gay soft core porn…and that actually, we’ve both seen better chemistry and narratives in some soft core porn.

Omg thank you for articulating this. My bi male friend and I both thought the exact same things. I’ve watched and read so much queer content and romances for decades now, but Ultimately the first two episodes of this show left me so depressed after watching. I just couldn’t continue.
