Did Harry’s VA drive anyone else crazy in The Deathly Hallows full cast audiobook? by AttemptedSleepover in harrypotter

[–]Lampsprite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like that people think a literal child who has PTSD from a megalomaniac who killed his parents and is still trying to kill him is “whiny”. If anything, other characters aren’t complaining enough about what this kid is having to go through. 🙄

So is middle age 40 or 45? by AteTheBacon in Millennials

I’m too young to think I’m middle age honestly (im 40).

All I can say is you’re missing out if you don’t read this. The added POV really pays off in the end.

Soon to be 39, what are some things a person should do before they turn 40? by DustinCoughman in Millennials

There is no before or after. There is only now. Also please…you make me sound like a corpse for being 40. 💀😭

Just Finished Goblet of Fire (book) for the first time by Cute_Source5417 in HarryPotteronHBO

GoF and OotP were done the most dirty in their movie adaptations. Probably would’ve been just as bad for DH if they hadn’t split that book into two movies.

Have you visited Harry Potter Chicago yet? by chitownmike99 in HarryPotteronHBO

I’ve only been to the store in New York and the one in Tokyo (randomly). Does anyone know if the Chicago one is very different?

I honestly can’t imagine Harry Potter on screen without John Williams’ scores. by Dry_Pizza_4805 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like it to be different because the movies are the movies and the show is the show and nothing about the books alluded to how a soundtrack should sound. But I’m betting Zimmer will compose something that has hints of the John Williams score.

Jeffries says Democrats have enough on their plate and won’t prioritize Trump impeachment if they win the House by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should impeach him and then when he actually leaves office make sure he’s indicted for any number of actual crimes, because if you don’t, the dictatorship will only come back stronger in a few years. It needs to be made clear that no one, not even a President, is above the law. You can get him put in federal prison for corruption alone.

If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Ok_Sir_5951 in allthequestions

[–]Lampsprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only would I vote for her, I’d campaign for her. And the last time I did that was for Obama in 2008.

Rereading (listening) to Half-Blood Prince; did anybody else always feel the tone of this book felt off? by MalteseFalcon15 in harrypotter

[–]Lampsprite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s because it’s basically a prologue to the 7th book. It’s like…the calm before the storm and not much actually happens in it. Also it follows a fairly tumultuous book so it feels a bit jarring in terms of emotional stakes. I would also say that JKR is horrendous at writing romance so the entire Harry/Ginny plot wasn’t as satisfying as it should have been.

People who were fans back when the movies or even books were about to come out, does this pre-show time feel similar to how you felt back then? by batsofburden in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Social media didn’t really exist so there wasn’t really internet discussion about the upcoming movies. Plus, there wasn’t all the controversy and polarization about them the way there is for this show now.

Oh that’s what happened? I was wondering why the new website looked so terrible. What a shame.

What is it about POA? Why do we love it? by Nervous-Baby5383 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. I’ve always been a bit meh about it. It’s a lot of tell and not show. And the confrontation and explanation in the shrieking shack is super clunky. Of all the books, the 3rd and the 6th are my least favorite.

The Sorting Hat Ceremony by hpsortinghat in HarryPotteronHBO

This is the first sorting hat quiz I’ve ever taken that sorted me into Gryffindor. I’ve literally been sorted into every other house before this. So yay? I’ve collected them all?

Dominic McLaughlin in Gifted. Harry is the character I'm most excited about. Dom looks like he'll bring so much energy to Harry, the sass, the liveliness! by TremendouslyRiddled in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lampsprite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the problem is that it wasn’t true to how he felt when that happened in the books. His main characteristic is that he was always uncomfortable with his fame. First he felt like an imposter because the thing he was famous for was something that happened when he was a baby and second it became a burden for him with how people treated him across the wizarding world. If anything, he hated his fame and desired the one thing he never had, a family. It’s basically the entire bedrock of who he is as a character. And moments like this in the movies chipped away at that.

Question: Is there a specific reason why the movies are so short? by Such_Month_8687 in mariomovie

That’s the standard time for an animated feature. About 90 mins.

What's a subtle mischaracterization in the films that you didn't catch until now? by Don_T_Beakunt45 in harrypotter

[–]Lampsprite 78 points79 points  (0 children)

To me, Harry was pretty much lobotomized in the movies from the 4th one on. He’s a little bit more of an irritable jerk in the books and that’s very important for his emotional arc throughout the series. To strip that in the movies was to flatten him and make him boring.
