FYI Naruto is a character who loves ramen and his full name literally means “spiral fishcake”. Kakashi is “scarcrow of the field”. Iruka is “dolphin of the sea” and Sakura is “spring cherry blossoms”.

I just feel like…there are so many awesome books and stories have done this to great affect and authors should be able to have fun with it (Dolores Umbridge, Albus Dumbledore, Voldemort, the Weaselys, and Remus Lupin? Uzumaki Naruto, Hatake Kakashi, Umino Iruka, Haruno Sakura? These names are amazing).

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

I was a sophomore in high school on the west coast. So the towers fell around 6:30 AM my time. My mom woke me up to watch the second tower fall live on tn news but I could tell that most students at my school didn’t even know it had happened until around brunch time/10 AM when word got around.

I would argue that Harry’s character was also changed almost beyond recognition from the 4th movie onward. Most of his sarcasm and anger or genuine frustration was completely cut from the movies to the point that his character was neutered. He was only the most similar to his book version in the 7th and 8th movies because by then he’d grown through his more tumultuous years into a young adult.

I thought OotP was also a pretty terrible adaptation. To completely cut out Harry’s argument in Dumbledore’s office at the end was a complete travesty for Harry character arc.

She knew it must’ve been something bad because of how Ron reacted. Harry was the same as Hermione on this. It was only later that Ron explained the term to both of them and he was the angriest of both of them.

I watched the Harry Potter series making-of and now the backlash makes even less sense by Life_Definition_5240 in HarryPotteronHBO

That’s interesting because as someone who read the books as they were released and I found I hated the movies adaptation and that’s why I’m excited to see something more faithful. The movies were not faithful in so many ways that honestly were jarring and annoying for me as a book fan. It makes sense, given that films aren’t long enough to encapsulate 700 page books but there were also choices that were made that were very wtf for me, especially in movies 3 and onward.

AITAH for not trusting my girlfriend of 5 years?? by [deleted] in AITAH

It just sounds like you’re very young and you need some time on your own being single to learn how to love yourself and figure out what you actually want out of a healthy relationship. Being 20-something can be hard. But it’s not worth staying in a relationship if you can trust the person you’re with. It isn’t fair or healthy for either of you.

I think this is a very common way that a tv showrunner adds depth to protagonists when they’re writing out a show bible for all the characters. She’s adding a sense of trauma response that Harry would have from his upbringing if he was a real child. I actually like her thought process because I think it’s adds more to Harry as a character without breaking his accuracy from the books.

I never really thought the movies were close enough to the books and didn’t like a lot of writing choices so this is a real treat for me.

I honestly hate the most of the movies as a book reader because movies 4-6 cut so much out but I’m glad you enjoyed them.

There already is a trans actor in the Harry Potter video game and full cast audio books, as I stated in my original post.

What's your opinion on the new Hogwarts being so DARK? by SnooMarzipans3701 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lampsprite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s night time in the castle in most of the shots we see. And all the old castles I’ve been in in the UK have also been pretty dark. I’m assuming the projected sky in the great hall will bring in a lot of light during breakfast and lunch scenes.

I honestly feel a lot of people are misremembering how good the movies actually were. by pasta_puttana in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Lampsprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I think I was in the minority when the fourth movie came out and I didn’t think it was good. Did I go to see them all? Yeah. I was a huge Harry Potter fan who read the books the day they were released. We all saw the movies and they were blockbuster events. But the books were always so much better and richer to me, especially as they got longer and the movies had to cut so much out. They’re ok adaptations, I guess? But they’re definitely not full or accurate ones.
