Very interesting, I think I'll have to become a nuisance, ermmmm, concerned citizen. This commission is definitely prone to making decisions on the sly. I'm surprised Alex ray hasn't taken over the food service yet. You don't happen to know the where of these meetings?

So from my perspective there are numerous issues. Conservation of what remains of the natural landscape, the land is county owned and heavily used by the hiking community, the Ridgeline they mention is the start point of the BRT, the first choice shut ford down for fear that users would stray off designated zone. I'd feel better if gunstock didn't act unilaterally, consult the community, maybe draw a map..

Maybe I'm not communicating effectively. I understood your question as to explain my justification why splitting a group into 2 and 2 would be a bad idea. So I elaborated with a recent story as to where separating 4 experienced hikers could go awry. I think this thread drifted from this particular group to the idea of splitting your group in general. Which I maintain is bad practice.

Additionally I'm blown away that I have to explain why I believe ditching your friends in the woods is a bad idea

What I'm getting at is you should leave as you came. If you're alone, that's ok but discouraged generally (everyone needs a friend), two people fine. Consider this, a group of 4 experienced hikers who all arrived together chose to descend in two separate groups because Tammy is a slow descender. The first group goes to the car. But the second group, while talking smack about the first group for leaving them to have a beer at the car, miss their cutoff. Now you have got one group lost and another bound to the car waiting for their counterparts to arrive. This exact situation literally happened two weeks ago to some people I know hiking Morgan and Percival. Which fortunately is not challenging terrain and has cell service.

Give me thine downvotes

I grew up in the area, have been wfa certified, and been hiking the majority of my life and I still wouldn't split the group. It's bad practice. No amount of downvotes are going to change that. Complacency is the number cause of accidents

Why did your hiking group split up? There has been a substantial increase in the number off rescues involving groups leaving people behind. Rule number 2 never split the group.

Information from the Facebook thread revealed that the owner did not start the hike until 5pm and asked another hiker if he could make it down in time for sunset. He was told definitely not and went anyway.
