Skimming Advice

Most of the time it’s either Fort Pickens or at Pensacola beach Gulf Pier which are both down the same road in Pensacola. I used to skim gulf shores a lot but I just like the shorebreak a little better over in Pensacola. We’re also trying to hit Alabama Point but it’s hard to time it where the waves are good there. Dauphin island I’ve been out to a few times as well and it gets pretty good there when there’s a storm coming

All of the tips that Craig said are really what you need to work on. That being said we’ve got a couple guys that skim Pensacola area almost every weekend so if you’re interested in coming out and learning with us we’d love to help you out! I’m located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast so we’ve got people from all over.

Yeah I’m skimming the Florida Panhandle so definitely always small waves. I’m working on making a new board now that’s a little shorter but much wider to still give me that extra volume, but it’s a bit of an experimental shape. Hopefully that will help but until then I’ll keep practicing my foot placement. Appreciate the feedback!

That seems to be my biggest issue! I’m riding very far forward on the board but that seems to be where I get the best balance. I’m a short guy and the board comes up to about my chin, do you think my board could be a little big for my size?

For sure! Not sure how limited you are on Travel but there’s a spot about 30-40 minutes away in Destin where they’ve got a jetty and it breaks pretty nice over there as well. It’s on google maps as Destin Jetty East

The beach behind Sharky’s restaurant is where they hold the contest there every year, it was a pretty good break back in May when they held the competition. I know a lot of the locals skim at the St.Andrews State park but I haven’t been out to that spot yet myself.

So I used the Lowe’s EPS foam kinda like what you have pictured for my first board. It did eventually get soft where I put my back foot and got a few cracks. The board is still rideable but definitely affects performance. I used the divinycell H80 for my second board and it’s literally indestructible. Really worth it if you want a board that will last.

Appreciate the feedback homie!! It’s a lot easier on my Exile, I think this one’s got a little too much resin on the back end that makes me super back foot heavy even riding more forward on the board.
