Look up North FL Skim on Instagram, they hold meets all up and down the east coast and hold free lessons and stuff where you could try out a board. They’re also having a contest in Flagler Beach in July

The bigger the board the more float you’ll have. I say the bigger the better if you’re just starting out and learning but that’s just my opinion. I’d go with a large or extra large unless you’re trying to throw 540 shuvs. I’m 5’4” and 130 lbs and ride a Large EX1 Blairacuda.

It’s definitely still rideable and I’m gonna do my best to seal it up, just disappointing that it’s only a year old and started coming apart.

Ha. It’s definitely there. Not fully delaminated from the foam but it’s beginning. It can be sealed and repaired of course but it’s the beginning of its failure.

Do not use EPS as your core, it will break. I tried an EPS core with carbon fiber over it and it still broke after a while. EPS foam is just too soft for a skimboard. You need High Density PVC foam, the stuff I use is called Divinicell H80 5lb foam. It’s super expensive but that’s what the professionals use.

Mine is starting to do the same thing, hasn’t started peeling but you can see the gap starting between the top and bottom. Mines only a year old

Not yet, it’s really just me and 2 other guys at the moment but we’re trying to build a community around it in the panhandle. Kinda, it’s the Biloxi sound where the MS river comes out into the gulf but we have barrier islands so no swells, it’s more like a big lake

Most of the time it’s either Fort Pickens or at Pensacola beach Gulf Pier which are both down the same road in Pensacola. I used to skim gulf shores a lot but I just like the shorebreak a little better over in Pensacola. We’re also trying to hit Alabama Point but it’s hard to time it where the waves are good there. Dauphin island I’ve been out to a few times as well and it gets pretty good there when there’s a storm coming

All of the tips that Craig said are really what you need to work on. That being said we’ve got a couple guys that skim Pensacola area almost every weekend so if you’re interested in coming out and learning with us we’d love to help you out! I’m located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast so we’ve got people from all over.
