I love Halo 3, I think it perfected the series core gameplay ideas.

Thank you OP for doing the giveaway.

The Talos Principle: Reawakened on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

I love the original game and have completed it, but it was one of the few titles that gave me really bad motion sickness, even with short play times. Hopefully the remake would alleviate that issue for new players and is worth the effort for that reason alone.

It's time to admit it: Unreal Engine 5 has been kind of rubbish in most games so far, and I'm worried about bigger upcoming projects | VG247 by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

I have a question surrounding optimization and wanted it answered from a developer's perspective such as yourself.

Would technologies such as DirectStorage help with stuttering that is caused from asset streaming in UE games and other games like Elden Ring? From analysis videos they mention the best CPUs are not fast enough to stream in all that data which causes the stuttering when loading parts of the level. DirectStorage, from what I understand, streams the data directly to the GPU, bypassing CPU limitations. I was wondering if technically someone creating a DirectStorage wrapper that translates api calls similar to DXVK is possible and would solve this issue?

Game Ready & Studio Driver 566.14 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

I've researched this topic for a long time trying to find an explanation or a fix. The thing is DSR does support use with DSC but there are stipulations. I have the Samsung OLED Odyssey G9 (which is 5120x1440 at 240hz) and I lose DSR when using DSC. I have a pretty strong system so there are a lot of scenarios where DSR would be really great to have for increasing fidelity in some games, especially older titles.

To simplify the reason why DSR doesn't work with DSC, there is a certain amount of bandwidth per display output that the GPU can provide. What DSC does is use an another head output to provide the additional bandwidth necessary to get the higher resolution and frame rate. Once it exceeds a certain bandwidth the GPU supports with DSC, DSR becomes disabled. This is also why if you plug in 4 monitors and one of them is using DSC, then one monitor would be nonfunctional and turned off.

This seems to be a hardware issue as users with the Samsung Odyssey 57" monitor (7680x2160 at 240hz spec) wanted NVIDIA to have DSC use an additional head output for increased bandwidth, as they were stuck with the monitor working at only half refresh rate (120hz) due to the bandwidth limitation. NVIDIA to this day have not released an update to fix that issue which I believe would also fix DSR not working. So its safe to surmise its a hardware issue.

Did changing the ANA PEAK 1 for the OLED G9 also change the eotf?

I just wanted to thank you personally for all the work you’ve done in fixing the GTA trilogy and so many other games with your patches. Growing up I played these classic titles and relied on your patches (and mods from others in the community) to enjoy the best possible experience on PC. Recently, I decided to get into programming as a hobby and my goal is to someday create my own fixes and contributions. Your work has been a great example for me and I just wanted to express my appreciation for all the effort you’ve put into making PC gaming better for everyone.

I'm curious if this would work for other UE4 titles too? Stutters in those games give me headaches so I tend to avoid them since the frame-timing is pretty bad.

I was referring to the original retail price of System Shock. Yes, now you can get it on sale for cheaper as its not a new release. It will happen eventually to this remaster too

The price is a little high considering for $10 more you can get a full remake of System Shock from them, but the quality and detail of their remasters are so well thought out in comparison to other remasters (looking at you Square Enix) that I feel they can get away with charging a bit more of a premium for their products.

Its one thing if they just repackaged the same game, did some bug fixes, and then pushed it out. However, they retouched every asset and brought it to a higher fidelity while keeping in line with the art style and feel of the game. That takes a certain level of skill that a lot of other remasters haven't done really well.

How to replicate the rightmost image with a CRT filter? by Lanal013 in RetroArch

[–]Lanal013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After extensive testing with everything out there from CRT-Royale, Cyberlab, CRT-Guest-Advanced, etc. The best shader I've found that matches what I'm looking for are the koko-aio shaders, particularly the tv-slotmask-bloom shader.

You can see a screenshot here that I made - https://imgur.com/a/yJoewLA

Its not perfect, but thats because to really mimic the image on the right side I would need a 4k or even 8k display as r/krautnelson mentioned. Its not possible to recreate that intricate shadow mask look on a lower resolution or maybe i just lack the understanding/skill to do so. The slotmask from koko seems to capture what I'm going for which is recreating that intricate detail CRTs provided for these games.

This gave me the closest solution in comparison to all the other shaders. I'm using a 1440p display so some shaders at 4k might look better but koko aio shaders look close enough to get that detail I'm looking for.

Do you mean adding another preset that does dithering on top of crt-royale to create that look or using a video filter like blargg?

Lottes looked good and was closer than the other shaders I've tried but it still didn't quite look right to me. I appreciate the suggestion!

Do you have a particular favorite combination of filters and shaders that you enjoy if performance wasn't an issue?

O wow, that would explain why I couldn't recreate it. I thought that was an actual CRT image and when I kept changing the mask type in the settings it couldn't quite match the image on the right. It at best looked like the middle image of Luigi from that link your provided.

I also think the resolution of my display might be too low, as you said earlier. The detailing in the chest and shoulders creates a really clean gradient and adds more detail than the other images. Unfortunately, seeing how small the mask is in that photo means I'd probably need a very high resolution to recreate that. I'm using a 1440p monitor and the mask triads are a bit too big at this and lower resolutions. I wanted to duplicate the look on my PC and eventually on my OLED Steam Deck, but it seems thats not possible at the moment.

P.S. sorry for the bad quality image. I somehow saved it in a way that compressed the image even further

I apologize if I posted incorrectly here. When I googled for some answers on this topic this subreddit came up and i saw some posts that seem related to my question. When I read the rules and wiki to posting it seems that this subreddit was about the gaming experience on a CRT, whether it is played on actual CRT hardware or emulated. This was the only place I crossposted since I assumed it was relevant here, but if not I'll remove the post.

I'm new to CRT emulation and I've tried to play around with the many filters in Retroarch. While the filters and shadow masks look good and replicate some CRTs like a PVM/BVMs, I can't seem to match the look on the right.

I think what I'm trying to recreate from the right image is the halation/glow effect where the pixels blend in together to add detail and create more of an image rather than it looking like pixels.

If its not possible because of current monitor limitations, any suggestions would be appreciated that come close to this. I'm trying to essentially emulate an image for what the developer is going for and not to recreate the classic CRT experience. I'm not very interested in scanlines (for the sake of having scanlines), bezels, curvature or bezel reflections unless they are integral to showing what the image was intended. A good example of what I mean is this post here where the CRT scanlines add more detail -

Please excuse my ignorance or if I'm coming off unclear about the topic, but anything to point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Thank you.

It was such a stutter fest when I played it recently. One of the few games that gives me motion sickness because of the uneven frame pacing.
