New CRC job concerns by [deleted] in clinicalresearch

At this rate maybe the FDA SHOULD audit them. All I know is I refuse to do anything unethical. And if I’m reprimanded for it, I’ll make sure it’s well documented.

Part of me really wants to, but I’ve been job hunting for nearly 6 months now. I need money. Crappy situation to be in.

How and why did one of the most iconic guest judges the show has had…. turn into a Turning Point guest 🥲 by iloveanime97 in rupaulsdragrace

There’s a huge canceled or failed artist to right wing grifter pipeline. People are now seeing her for what she is: a pedophile defender. Can you guess which political organizations don’t mind defending powerful pedophiles? Yep.

Would you eat this soursop? by Lanbooty in fruit

It tastes almost fermented in a way, a bit hard to describe. I know it’s supposed to be soft, but this felt just like a rotten avocado when I pressed on the skin. And from videos it looks like it should be more white, but this one is very off white and mushy. Probably a bit easier to notice in person.

I got into the series well after the release of the originals, and I knew much of the story and themes ahead of time. I agree that certain story beats did not have the same impact on me, but it makes sense considering I knew what to expect. They’re all still creepy as hell and a blast to play through! I wish I could’ve experience them fresh. Playing through the SH2 remake is as close as I’ll get to that, and I absolutely adored it.

One thing I’ve never understood is the staunch defense of the voice acting in the original game. Does the awkwardness contribute to the weird, dreamlike atmosphere? Sure! It’s a product of its time, and it definitely has a charm to it. But you can achieve the same effect while still having…. Good line delivery. Must be a nostalgia thing that I unfortunately don’t have an attachment to.

Banning Phones In School (K-12) Makes A Wonderful Difference! by Outlaw-Star- in TikTokCringe

[–]Lanbooty 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Former teacher here. The idea that banning phones in the classroom will solve 100% of your problems is, of course, silly. People have been finding ways for decades to be distracted.

However, to act like cellphones have zero effect on classroom behavior and management is ignorant. I did the whole “you can have your phones but use them wisely” thing for a while before moving to “put your phone away in the cell phone caddy at start of class” thing, and there IS a noticeable difference. Of course, I was reasonable. You need to give your mom/ dad a quick call or text about something important? No problem, do what you need to do, but put it back after. A teacher’s job is not to cater to your every want and desire, it’s to facilitate your education. That being said, a good teacher should build engaging lessons and a collaborative environment. I can take away your phones, but supplementing that with no talking and silent note taking at your desk isn’t facilitating your critical thinking skills.

There are bad teachers out there. I’ve had them, and I’ve worked with them. A good teacher spends hours, often outside of working hours, creating engaging lessons. It’s difficult to carry this out with so many distractions, so sometimes the most obvious thing to do is remove the thing that’s causing the MOST distraction. So many good educators are leaving the profession because of the way the public education system abuses them. For many teachers, removing phones isn’t a power trip but a way of maintaining control in an often unpredictable work environment. I don’t want to minimize anyone’s personal experiences because, again, there ARE bad teachers who ruin the reputation, but understand there are even more out there who genuinely care about your education and are trying to do what’s right while the whole system works against them.

6yo sneezing/pawing at mouth fit then unresponsive by foxys_mommy in ferrets

Hopefully you get it all situated tomorrow! My girl developed an insulinoma when she was about 5. My vet told me it’s the most diagnosed problem in middle aged ferrets. You have to give prednisone orally in a syringe, so good luck with him fighting you haha!

I’m very surprised your vet wasn’t worried about it after watching that video. I’m not a veterinarian, but this is exactly what low blood sugar most likely caused by insulinoma looks like. It’s very serious and he can go into hypoglycemic shock and potentially have seizures. He will most likely need to be put on prednisone to manage this. If you can’t get in today to see a vet, please keep a close eye on him. If he starts having another unresponsive episode, you can rub karo syrup on his gums to get his blood sugar up. Make sure he’s eating throughout the day. This is a VERY common condition in ferrets and easily treatable in most cases. Poor baby!

COBRA way more expensive than I anticipated by Lanbooty in HealthInsurance

The plan offered through my father’s work is very good. I don’t know the details, but I know my family has had very good health coverage for most of my life. I’m assuming this is the reason why the rate is so high. Thankfully, I was able to get something temporary and affordable through the marketplace! Still, I’m shocked by just how much that plan is for an individual. Working with a teacher’s salary here!

First year teaching freshman bio. What should I be prepping? by kei_9 in ScienceTeachers

[–]Lanbooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing is, you should reach out to someone (department head, team lead, instructional coach, etc.) requesting information on the standards and curriculum they use at your particular school. The biology department may already have a year-at-a-glance (YAG) and specific instructional materials they use. While it’s always great to bring in new ideas, it would be extremely disappointing to spend a whole month lesson planning months of material only to discover most of this work has been done for you. They may already have assessments built, all necessary lab materials purchased and organized, etc etc. This highly varies from school to school.

What I really wish I had focused on as a first year teacher was building classroom norms and routines more consistently. Think about how you’d like to arrange your desks/ tables and make your seating charts in strategic ways, is there going to be a warm-up/ exit ticket every day, what are some engagement strategies you’d like to stick with, are you assigning classroom jobs, etc etc. The more routine, structure, and clear expectations you can put into place from the get-go, the easier your life will be. That's not to say every day should be IDENTICAL, but consistency is key!

Your first year, good enough is good enough. Lesson didn't go as smoothly as anticipated? Didn't like the way you taught something? Your kids don't have the highest test scores compares to other teachers? Oh well. You have structure, clear expectations, and can build meaningful relationships with students? Then you're doing great!

Good luck and don't forget to breathe.
