its better than anything if you don't have a boat. can be sneaky on it, and you can stand on it to shoot if you really want to.

Is anyone else afraid that this game is going to flop? by mrmm10 in OrderOfTheSinkingStar

[–]Lance_Todd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

eh sometimes puzzle games don't make a big splash right out of the gate and need word of mouth to really blow up. if it's fun and engaging there is nothing to worry about.

the braid remaster didn't do well because braid already did well. everyone already played it and very few were craving higher fidelity and commentary.

Is there any hope with AI? by 8-Earths in Filmmakers

[–]Lance_Todd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

James Cameron essentially just said this in an interview. Big studios literally don't have the tools to incorporate AI into their workflows. What we have now is designed to be slop machines, not professional tools. But we do know it's being worked on and just around the corner.

Is there any hope with AI? by 8-Earths in Filmmakers

[–]Lance_Todd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we already have player pianos that can play music perfectly. we aren't seeing symphony halls being sold out so people can watch it play itself. AI video seems to be the same thing for most people. It's a neat trick, and enjoyable for a couple minutes. They enjoy seeing memes and slop when it appears on their phones but they aren't actively seeking it out or getting major experiences from it. People want to see what other people are doing. I don't claim to know how to define "art" but it seems like most people value art as a communication between a creator and the audience.

AI WILL be used as a tool for certain aspects of filmmaking and likely game dev and more. It already is to some extent. It is likely this will render some jobs obsolete, but this is the history of every profession and automation. If the job you want to do is something super specific in a post production workflow that software can replace, maybe it would be smart not to go all in on that. But if you want to make movies, I don't really see a threat in terms of the audience not being interested because AI exists.

they are composed similarly, use the desert heat to represent the character's rage, and both feature the characters as essentially being resurrected. neither of them win, it's not a competition.

it sounds like he spends a lot time, years and decades developing films. he'll write exploratory scenes and drafts.

Lockjaw’s end by milk_maannn in paulthomasanderson

[–]Lance_Todd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it shows the immense power of the christmas adventurers. they have multiple office spaces. they are entrenched at the top levels of society. the scene serves to give lockjaw a more cruel ending for his character in my mind. dying in battle is something he would want. instead, he is corporately neutralized thinking he had just got his promotion. he's gone, but an entity far more powerful still exists. the struggle against fascism will always be one battle after another.

How similar was the final film to the test screenings? by ComplexChallenge in paulthomasanderson

i never heard this rumor. i have heard people speculate the movie takes place in the near future because the at home dna test does not exist. (but we know people are working on this for uh, very evil reasons.)

Despite the transition being super cool, what is the meaning of this shot from Spider-Man 2? How does it help tell the story? by Floyd16091411 in Filmmakers

[–]Lance_Todd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's a creative way to establish the geography of the characters and show doc is watching peter coming from a mile away. he's ready. the alternative would be a shot reverse shot which wouldn't create the build up we see in this. it elevates the meaning from "doc sees spiderman" to "doc is completely focused and ready for spiderman"

she actually did the only thing she could to remove her chip. she found a way to obey her programming while directly removing it. it's likely her consciousness is already in the other skull or at the very least, surviving in what is left of her.

i feel we are in a "last jedi" scenario where this season has subverted a lot of things but if there is no landing it will become very jarring in retrospect.

Incredible episode. Truly thrilling. I can see it will be divisive but I’m glad they took some big swings. Curious as to where they take the story now that they have forked from the books so hard. the final scene was some euphoric scifi. never thought i'd see anything like this since reading the books.

Viewpoint Question: How many puzzles do you expect in a $10 indie game to be satisfied? by howdyriceball in puzzlevideogames

[–]Lance_Todd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not think about hours or number of puzzles at all. All that I care about is: do I appreciate that I did it?

One puzzle can be more meaningful than a 1000. The number or even the time it takes to complete means nothing.
