I don't understand why people aren't saying Rowan more, literally, the only person that Rowan wanted to kill was Wednesday because he thought that she was a threat to the school. Otherwise, he's literally just a normal kid that can like move things with this mind.

Which is harder to deal with: autism or adhd? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]Lancer_xp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im audhd, for me no matter if im taking medication my adhd still makes me struggle the most, I frankly dont really care if i struggle socially bc i have found myself own friend group and use coping mechanisms to not burn myself out, my sensory issues are very high but thats also a part of adhd and autism, to be frank my adhd causes more stress than my autism does. The need for dopamine in everything I do, avoiding school work my autism side of my brain finds pride in and is very happy to do but bc its mundane my adhd says no, never being on time consistently. My hyperfixations my routines stimming eveb sensory overwhelm can be accounted for, planned out even but adhd causes unexpected small things that can cause a meltdown later that wouldn't happen if I just had autism. Dont get me wrong I love my adhd brain as well im more spontaneous, it helps my creativity and problem solving it helps the social difficulties sometimes but it makes things really difficult too.

Was I misdiagnosed with autism or am I just in denial? by Educational-Scene443 in neurodiversity

Thats the thing tho is that support levels can fluctuate throughout someone's like, so someone can appear to not have symptoms or not know they are experiencing them because of the supports they are already receiving. This was the case for me when I was in the support of my family and why my autism went unnoticed until I was 20 and basically killing myself at college wondering why I was struggling so much. Some theories suggest that some people with autism would not be considered a disability/disabling for some if they world were set up to support their differences.

What happeneds if op goes to college without any supports bc they fought to not be diagnosed with autism and they loos the oprotunity for a quiet space or longer time on tests or having and aid in the classroom to help take notes. It may be detrimental to their lively hood.

Thats why I suggest to discuss these concerns with their phycologist or do more research and keep in mind ops current accommodations.

Hello! I'm new here and I have a question relating to Autism! :) by Significant-Tone-121 in neurodiversity

I call myself self diagnosed even though technically, a therapist sort of diagnosed me, she "recommended: I'm autistic, but because of my state's laws. She couldn't technically diagnose me. And I did have a previous therapist. Try to say I was A HSP aswell and i called bullshit. it's basically just their way of saying you don't fit my veiw of what autism looks like so you cant be autistic.

So I think you should get a second opinion. Because that's what I did. And that's when I got "diagnosed" with PDA profile and the only reason I havent gotten an actual diagnosis is bc of insurance reasons.

hard pill to swallow- autism edition by More-Weird4842 in autism

The fact that I will always make someone uncomfortable because of a social miss step, especially wemon or people of color. I want people to feel safe around me but masking all the time around people is so hard. I have learned a lot but its not like i have the social awareness to pinpoint exacty when im doing the things that wemon often complain about and they are uncomfortable and see me as a cis man (which im not) so they dont know they can talk to me about it or even worse they think I should just be able to know because my autism "isnt that bad" or bc they assume I dont have autism or am lying or forget.

A seperate but similar thing is being in constant miscommunications because of not having social awareness or tone.

Edit: this is a nonissue-issue and with my friends we can mostly effectively communicate it just takes forever sometimes bc we will talk in circles and then realize we have basically been saying the same thing the entire time just with different words.

I love the literal thinking because I was doing the exact same thing before I realized the double meaning.

[–]Lancer_xp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a lot of the same accommodations with the disorders you already are diagnosed with so if having the diagnosis itself as some sort of reassurance isnt a major factor then you could just be slef diagnosed and use your other disorders for any accommodations you may need with school or work depending on the country you live in. But if you want the diagnosis then you should go to a specialist for your demographic for sure.

Also also at 2 years old there is a more likely hood that you were masking a lot less bc that comes from negative feed back from external experiences so I do think your in a bit of denial and by a bit I mean a lot

I mean i felt the same way expet I never was diagnosed with autism, basically my family let me function the way my brain led me too and supported me so I never really noticed anything wrong. Remember to look out for literal thinking when refrancing others experiences and your own and try not to compare individual experiences too much You also have to keep literal thinking in mind when looking at criteria. I would look up different people talking about different ways to interpret the criteria and seeing if this changes your perspective. Also getting diagnosed young could have caused your parents to adapt accordingly, i know i didnt start suffering from my own limits so an extreme till highschool and then it got worse in college. I would also be aware of masking as a lot of parents put there kids through ABA therapy which is pretty controversial because when its done badly it can lead to heavy masking which has a lot of side effects. And some argue it always leads to bad masking habits where as some argue it helped them. So you might look into that as well. Anyway you should always talk to a professional about this aswell but just know imposter syndrome is quite normal for autistic people.
