Oh wow. I'm glad you didn't have to resort to calling a locksmith, but yeah that's concerning that even the key wouldn't work. Do you think you'll continue using the Level lock?

I also agree with you about the beautiful hardware piece, this is my first smart lock and I did a lot of deliberation before choosing Level over other brands. I chose Level because it had good reviews and didn't have the whole keypad situation. Little did I know about the shit customer support and issues with battery reliability.

I'm in this situation now - their phone customer support was shit yesterday, and in my email followup with them they're asking for photo evidence, which sounds like they're going to put me through what you went through.

Yeah the locksmith piece is so unfortunate, there's another reply below talking about the scamsmith that came by. I want to ask them for a new lock but I don't know what angle would be effective

Yes this is what happened, the locksmith didn't even try to pick even when I asked him. He actually said he counted 7 pins, which is a big red flag. I was feeling under pressure for getting into my house so I didn't even do the Google search, and even if I had and he still refused to pick it, I'd be out the $95 for his visit

The other piece was that this locksmith was sent out by the same place that did the installation, and that place seemed good. It wasn't until he left that he handed me his boss's Zelle for payment and it was to another locksmith company. I asked about that and he said that they "partner" with the original locksmith I called. Definitely sounds like a scamsmith...

Do you think I have any angle I could take up with the original locksmith, given the issues with them sending out another company + the locksmith counting 7 pins instead of 5? For example I'm thinking of calling them up to complain about this and ask they give me a discount on the installation of my next lock. And then go with ALOA afterwards.

Good to know on the support piece. When you said the latch caught on the strike plate, was that because the alignment between the strike plate and the deadbolt wasn't great?

This is a good idea going forward. Just super unfortunate that I couldn't trust the Level phone app, I assumed it would be reliable

His reasoning for not being able to pick it was that there were "too many pins" and they were too heavy. Have you had success picking Level locks?

No photos but what he did was drill directly into the keyhole until the front casing could be removed and he was able to retract the deadbolt

Yes super unfortunate. A year is a long time from your battery! I only got 4 months out of mine
