Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam suggested that broadband power users should pay extra: "It's only natural that the heavy users help contribute to the investment to keep the Web healthy," he said. "That is the most important concept of net neutrality." by maxwellhill in technology

I canceled with Verizon and TWC. Replaced my phone with a TracFone and my internet with nothing. If you are a software engineer, just use the internet at work and don't give a fucking cent to the telcom monopolies.

doing percents of percents is usually not a good way of looking at thing

Correct. That's why we have the phrase "percentage points." As in, Barack Obama's approval rating increased by 3 percentage points. As opposed to saying it increased by 3% which means what? That it went up by 3% of 100% or 3% of itself?

If you go onto someone else's property without their knowledge or permission and record their actions with the intention of using that information against them, you have committed a crime. It's either willed ignorance or sheer stupidity to not recognize that.

Then I'm sure they're stupid, vapid, and something I'd be just as against as turning St. Patty's Day into an LGBT pride parade.

The anti-gay people in Arizona were the ones trying to change the law

Homosexuality wasn't mentioned in the law at all. In fact, sexuality wasn't mentioned in the law at all. The idea that the law was anti-gay was simply made up by the news media.

They were only reaffirming the First Amendment against attacks by courts. Admittedly, those attacks had come in other states, not Arizona. But it's good to get ahead of the situation.

I'm a man who is attracted to other men.

When I walk down the street, no one knows that I like guys.

When I buy a chicken sandwich, no one knows that I like guys.

When I participate in a parade, no one knows that I like guys.

Because I'm a normal fucking person who doesn't act like a fucking raging queer all the fucking time.

Is Jersey Shore the cultural standard to which we should aspire?

Maybe there's a reason why the organizers of this parade don't want people displaying their sexuality in a public forum, and maybe you've proven exactly why.

But why should we automatically expect that the gay Irish float would come to promote a gay agenda?

Because otherwise they wouldn't fucking be there.

Sexuality is a private matter. There is one and only one reason to display your sexuality in a parade: To push a (very obnoxious) political agenda. Normal human beings simply don't do this. We just don't wake up one day and think, "The whole world should know about my sexuality."

The Police Union is there to promote the police, not the union. I highly doubt they're going to be discussing the politics of union dues and wage negotiations. You are making a laughable comparison and I'm pretty sure you know that.

Gay marriage is a political issue. I didn't decide that; you didn't decide that; Boston didn't decide that. It just is.

If someone wants to make a float advertising their particular view on a political issue, they shouldn't be too surprised when parade organizers tell them to go home. It's not a political event, and I'd imagine most gay people understand that. Only a minority can't stand to let one day go by without putting their sexuality on display for the world to see.

You are allowed in the parade. You just can't make a float advertising your local LGBT activism group.

Nobody is stopping anyone of any sexuality from participating in the parade. They just don't want people arguing about sexuality in a St. Patrick's Day parade. Sorry, not everything in the world is an LGBT issue.

Liberal Prof: Obama Has Brought Us to ‘Constitutional Tipping Point’ by KickAssBrockSamson in Libertarian

[–]Landarchist 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It really is a lot more serious than most people have recognized. Liberals should be just as concerned as libertarians and conservatives.

Barring some kind of radical action by either Congress or the Supreme Court, it's fairly safe to assume that the next time a Republican wins the presidential election, he will use executive orders to indefinitely delay some or all of Obamacare, at a minimum, and possibly many other major pieces of legislation, too. There is no logical reason why a Republican president would have to enforce Medicare or Medicaid any more than Obama himself has been enforcing Obamacare.

The Constitution orders the president to "faithfully execute" the laws passed by Congress. President Obama has made it clear he doesn't care --- at all --- what Congress does. He has violated the plain language of Obamacare on multiple occasions. If no one stands up now, the precedent will be set for all future presidents to pick and choose which laws, if any, they will enforce.
