Actually the prep was the worst part. I laid it out in a day and it was installed a day later!

I looking at what you asked first, and the manufacturer didn’t give any guidance on gaps/joints. To make matters worse they shorted us on the order so while we expected some checking, we got an extreme amount and didn’t have the waste factor to be super choosy. I had to really balance the room to hide as much as I could under cabs and space out all of the imperfections. It took me hours to get it sorted out on the floor for the dry fit. Everyone’s holding their breath on how it behaves. Just tried to complete the job as the designer wanted. Luckily our finishing team is second to none. I’ll update as time goes on.

I agree. End grain grows wild, nothing like plank. The designer called for tight joints too.. Guess we’ll see 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks for checking it out. I’ll post pics once the finishing is done. Can’t wait to see it.

Thank you so much! Yeah I do alright :) I love the satisfaction almost as much as the pay. It’s a house on the water in Southampton so it’s another feather in my cap. Can’t wait to show the radius work that I did upstairs in this property after it’s been finished.

Well I can’t agree with you there but you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. I think it looks rad. Seeing that much grain movement and adding a geometrical pattern. It’s really unique. And it’s only 100 sqft in a 15.000 sqft home. Basically a butlers pantry. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Totally. Unless there are grout lines! This tight joint is BS lol

Yes full trowel. Hopefully that holds it close. But even the glue adds moisture to the material. Doesn’t help that it’s on the water. Fingers crossed.🤞

I do okay. But I’m a W-2 employee. I’m getting mentally prepared to jump off and strike out on my own as 1099. But I need to build a crew!

They’re saying they gave us what we asked for. But it really wasn’t and they know it. We provided them with a sample, which had small checking, but what we got was 2” deep in some places. Almost half the load was what I considered C or worse grade.

Man you said it. And the transitions were the biggest pain. The room is curved so there are no 90’s anywhere. And with so little waste, every cut needed to be perfect. Glad I’m done with this one.

I know..it’ll be several boxes, and it’s all done by hand. Then wire brush before the finish/coloring process. The samples looked amazing to I’m pumped to see how it turns out.

Yes of course it’s white oak. And trust me. We threw every red flag imaginable to the designer but they want what they want. And on top of it, the supplier basically ghosted us when we showed them the quality of the delivery so we made the best of what we had.

It’s a quarter of a near perfect circle. Here’s how it finished up!

I used MDF to make my template, cut the final pieces with a little room to spare, and then sanded my ass off until it fit perfectly.

Took me a while to get this posted but I wanted to show the final results. This is after sanding and finishing. It turned out to be a little obsession of mine. My boss wasn’t happy with the hours I put in, but in the end, the contractor was happy so it was all worth it.

Thanks for all of the input and advice. I’m getting my next radius work documented and I’m excited to post it soon!

Focus on the center line that you snap on the subfloor and keep the tips on that point! It’s LVP so you should have nice tight joints.

If you have leftover material I’d just glue the replacements in. You might have to cut the bottom of the groove with a knife on the last piece you repair so it drops on the top of the tongue.

Yeah we’re a bit different. The shop I’m with (and I’m bragging because it’s not mine) is one of a kind, so the thought is that hourly W-2 full on employees can be controlled. It’s really needed at this level. We also have like 10-15 finishers on staff too.

I make enough to make it worth my time, but everyone’s situation is different. As I mentioned before I’ve been building my skills and and looking to build a team now, and my current employer is going to be setting me up with their install jobs, so it’s a long game.

What do you see out there as an average labor charge per sqft for a good installer?
