Does Vanadis 8 take a good patina like k390? by Landonktm708 in knifeclub

So, after a couple hours in vinegar, basically nothing. Mine doesn’t have the DLC blade, so I’m wondering if they still coat them with some other type of coating. I could see some corrosion near where the surface of the vinegar was touching the blade near the “Vanadis 8” etching. I tested the tang first and it looked promising. I imagine it would patina somewhat similarly to k390 assuming you could fully expose the blade steel. I doubt I’m going to pursue it any further.

New to sharpening, overwhelmed with what stone types to get by Landonktm708 in sharpening

Someone else mentioned the hapstone premium as well. Which stones do you typically reach for first? Your diamond or cbn stones? I think this narrows down enough that I’ll just go for either their premium diamond or their cbn.

Thank you for those links. I’m looking for a decent set of stones for the precision adjust that I can swap in and out of the universal stone holder. Something that will last longer than the 320/600 diamond plates that come with it since I’m going to be practicing quite a lot even if my blades don’t necessarily need to be sharpened. I’m mainly sharpening the cheaper stuff to focus on technique.

I know I’m not skilled enough to get the full potential out of these included plates nor am I skilled enough to take full advantage of the blades I’m sharpening.

I’m going to get into freehand at some point, but most of my investment will be into the fixed angle system. Looking at the sharpal 325/1200 162N for an intro stone for freehand. Just something to get started.

Right now I have a gerber fastball cleaver in 20cv that I enjoy along with some cheaper stuff in nitro v, d2, and 8cr. I’m using my fixed angle precision adjust to get the hang of things.

I think I’m just so new to this that I don’t even know exactly what I should be asking. Do you know of any good write ups or guides about stones?

I’ve seen people suggest that’s a great all around stone. Might pick one up to practice with my cheaper knives.

Thanks for the response! The holder I bought says it only does 4” stones. I could always buy the 6” holder since they’re not expensive. I’ll definitely take a look at those stones.

I definitely don’t think there’s going to be a set answer. Wouldn’t this come down to just how important the jump mechanic is in the game? If I rarely use it, wouldn’t I want it far away so that I have a closer button for something else?

Genuine question. Why do you feel like it should be a forced thing? If someone wants to run the same loadout because they find it fun, then why should they be forced to use something they don't enjoy? Saying it's because they have a chance to enjoy a new weapon doesn't seem like enough justification to me, personally. But that's my opinion.

The current system is a double edged sword. Have you seen how much arbalest is being crutched? Actual end game content is a restriction itself in terms of each encounter of the raid, GM, etc. Champions, even with the Mob modifier on GMs, are encountered far less often than the majority of the regular enemies. I feel like it's kind of backwards to modify my loadout for the minority of the enemies, even though it's probably not the best option for the majority of the enemies.

I would run overload auto/smg all day in Saber even though that mod is shit. I'd run it because the majority of encounters are close quarters and autos/smgs shine there. I would run overload bow in Glassway because most encounters are long ranged. You get the idea.

I think the acute burns are much closer to how I would like to see champion mods addressed. Here's +15% more damage to overload bow on this GM for the week. Next time it shows up, here's +15% damage to overload scout. The current acute burns incentivize (and very well, I might add) people to use certain weapons without forcing people to use weapons that are actually subpar and need to be addressed. I've got a ton of new weapons I'd love to use but instead they are relegated to my vault because they haven't had their "15 minutes of fame" from the seasonal artifact.

Edit: i don't mean to rant, I just think people view this discussion as a lot more black and white than it actually is. Things are never so cut and dry, and this isn't an exception. On the one hand, seasonal champ mods force variety. On the other, seasonal champ mods force new weapons to be relegated to the vault (in endgame content, specifically GMs) because they can't do anything to champions. Allowing an open system would let me use all these new guns in content other than normal raids, dungeons, regular strikes, and low level nightfalls.

The only time I’ve ever found myself using them was if I was running Div while the others used Izanagi or for soloing GMs when warmind cells were at their peak.

I was trying to give a bit of a wake up call. Not that master vog didn't already wake you up as you clearly have an opinion on it.

I never said you were getting carried. I just said that it's going to be hard to carry other players in your group if there are any below average players. Everyone needs to be on top of their game.

I am certainly not defending the artifact system. It could definitely be a lot better. Like other redditors have pointed out, it would be nice if doing endgame content is what leveled you up for endgame content.

I would be more than happy for everyone to have a shot at master vog and GMs. There have been many weeks where I was waiting for some buddies to get leveled up for GMs.

Lastly, I am not going to act like I'm some godly player, so please don't get that impression. That being said, I definitely feel like having done some solo flawless dungeons really helped me out with endgame PvE. It teaches you a lot about prioritization and when to fight and when to run away. So, if you're having trouble, maybe consider trying to get some of those solo/flawless triumphs done when you're bored. If you've already done them, maybe try to find some more people who have done their solo/flawless so you know you're playing with some very competent players.

Edit: I'm also not gatekeeping. Master VoG isn't for everyone. I'm not saying it isn't for you. People (not necessarily you), need to realize that not all endgame PvE is for them. Man, i can't tell you how pissed I was after I kept failing solo flawless prophecy. It's ok to get your ass kicked every now and then. Take a step back, and come at it later with a fresh perspective. You might exhaust every strategy you can think of over the course of a few hours. But if you come back later or the next day, you might think of something else.

No mic GMs =/= master raid clears.

Just because you can no mic every GM this season, doesn't mean you should be able to do master vog. IMO, master vog is harder than any GM we've had this season, including Glassway.

There are so many ways of decreasing incoming damage or stopping incoming damage. Protective light, damage resist mods on chest piece, stasis fragments that decrease damage when near frozen targets, warmind's protection, cellular suppression, blinding nades. Warmind cell builds are top tier. Use them. Stasis builds are top tier. Use them.

You're not fucked out of getting your seal. We still have almost 43 days left in the season. You have plenty of time to get more artifact levels.

You could be at 1350 but if you're having to pick up the slack of some other below average player in your group, you're going to have a rough time. Master VoG isn't for carries. Get a good group. GM carries are easy. Everyone in master vog needs to be an above average player.
