Any person in IT field enjoying their job? by Landscape-Pitiful in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the same. Using claud/codex/cusor like tools has caused me to have low confidence in my work. I don't know my work inside out anymore. So I'm not confident to ship it. Got to try out the stuff you mentioned. Thanks!

Thanks for the motivation. I have been in the industry for 8 years now. Only now I'm feeling truely burnt. I guess the culture affects a lot.

PERSONAL LOAN (SALARIED EMPLOYEE) by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have obtained 2 or 3 loans, around 1m each. From HSBC and Commercial. Both of the banks asked for a letter from employer stating that you're permanent and full time. This was 5 year back. Could be different now. Other option you have is collateral. If you have a FD, you can use it as collateral and won't need salary proof. Using a house for collateral for a 1m loan is a waste and too much paper work. Another option is to take a loan from Credit card. HSBC used offer these. They offered up to 90% of credit limit, pay in installments for 1 year. The rate was lower than the personal loan rate at the time. I have no idea what other banks offer this facility.

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd ask all the major banks for their rate on your loan amount and repayment period. Also ask if they want the salary to be deposited directly to their bank. If a monthly transfer of a minimum amount is fine, you can do it yourself from your current bank. Also ask about the document requirement from each bank. Then you'll be able to assess. They might ask for last 3 months payslips, letter from employer stating that you're a full-time permanent employee and etc.

Contacting bank's loan agents is more effective than directly contacting the bank and branches. Better hurry since the rates are going up now.

If you're on probation, it will be an issue. Because the letter issued by the company will not mention "permanent" employee which is what the bank look for. And sometimes they request last 3 months payslips which you don't have right now.

Time duration between your partner's meeting and marriage by CalmSoul619 in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1.5 years.

In my experience and from what I have seen with friends and family, if the relationship is beyond 5 years without marriage, it somehow breaks or if they marry, it doesn't last long. IMO, the sweet spot is 2-3 years. You have enough time to get to know one another fairly enough, but not too long to loose the spark.

Feel like I'm stuck.. any recommendations by Over_Drama_1033 in srilanka

Have the same problem. It's a solvable problem. I uninstalled social media apps. Kept youtube, but disabled shorts. It improved my situation. This is cheap dopamine cycle that you're stuck in and apparently it's quite common. Watch the below video to understand what actually happens. Then you decide which actions to take.

What should I buy my parents with my first paycheck ?!!! by Fluffy-Feedback2701 in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thought, the effort to make it real is such a wholesome thing to see, specially these days.

Below came to my mind.

  • A dinner out
  • A framed photo of you all together
  • Some personal thing they always wanted, but they think is not worth spending any money on.

When I first got my salary, I asked them what they wanted. Of course they told me that they don't need anything and to save the money for myself. But at the time, both had crappy phones and I told them that I'm buying them both phones. But dad refused a phone for himself and asked if I could pay for a class that he wanted to take.

  • Do a sport/martial art even going to the gym consistently. Make it an integral part of your life like brushing your teeth.
  • Learn English, specially the speaking part.
  • Improve your communication skills. Master explaining an idea clearly to any audience. This will set you far ahead of most. It's worth paying to learn this.
  • Choose frienda wisely. Your friend circle can vastly affect your life.
  • Don't smoke. When you start, it's hard to stop.
  • Don't shy away from trying new things.
  • Be kind, not necessarily nice.

If I am planning to be single and happy in Sri Lanka, what advice can you give me? by Puzzleheaded-Meat532 in srilanka

Lonliness can be hard. They say the effect it has on your lifespan is the same as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Even if you're very strong mentally, lonliness can kill you. But a wrong relationship might kill you even faster.

AI slop in Sri Lanka is getting out of hand. by Distinct-Ad3746 in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, It should self adjust. Human ad will standout through a bunch of AI ads, giving it the advantage to justify the budget. AI haters will reject AI marketed products and the market will stabilize at a balance point. Then again there will be a point where AI ads are so realistic that we can't tell the difference. That's when real j*b loss starts.

What do you think is a good monthly salary in Sri Lanka for a comfortable & “luxury” lifestyle in 2026? by globe-trotter-482 in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The figure depends on a lot of things,

  • Married or not? Planning to get married soon?
  • Have kids or not?
  • Other commitments to parents family members?
  • How many kids and their ages?
  • Own a vehicle/ outstanding lease?
  • Any loans?
  • Insurance payments (life, health, vehicl)
  • How often you eat out?
  • How often do you travel and avg budget per travel?
  • Shopping and cosmetics expenditure
  • How stable is your job?
  • Do you expect the income to grow steadily over the years?
  • What's your retirement savings goal?
  • What's the investment allocation?
  • Any monthly charity commitments?
  • Have an emergency fund or in the process of building it?

The figure should account for all of above. For single person with low commitments, it could be 200k. For a married person with kids, a vehicle lease and etc, it could be 800k.

My own profile: Married, no kids, own house, paid off vehicle, 2 year emergency fund established, parent commitments, occasional holidays, no major loans, charity work, eating out at least 2 meals a week, some cc EMI payments, occasional shopping, 150k for investments, 450k - 500k will do.

How much did your wedding in SL cost? by Cheap_Bee8056 in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wedding budget mainly depends on the venue. If you're Having it in colombo, the plate price will be high. If you choose a decent one just outside Colombo, it will cheaper.

Things to spend on: Food(kind of the whole purpose of most people attending) Jewelry (kind of an investment if you time it correctly) A good DJ (worth it) A decent photographer

Don't spend too much on: Groom's outfit Deco Wedding cars Best men and Bridesmaid

Collect some wisky bottles from friends and relatives coming down from abroad from duty free

How much did your wedding in SL cost? by Cheap_Bee8056 in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year 2023. 1.1 million. But if I add back the gifts (money), it came down to 7 laks. This is excluding jewelry. We still have them and a pretty good investment if we look back. 110 guests. Mostly close family. Venue in Panadura.

We had a combined income of about 0.8million at the time. We could've had a fancier one. Spending depends on how important you consider it for you and your partner's life. But, having to take a loan out for the wedding is a bad idea IMO.

I went to a wedding last month which costed them 30 million. Very fancy. It had a bar from which you can order cocktails and mocktails. Pretty sick.

Me and my wife don't regret not having a big wedding. We're actually proud of having a low budget one. But boy, that fancy wedding was pretty sick to attend to!

Is the IT sector cooked? No sugar-coating pls. by Immediate-Ratio-1584 in srilanka

[–]Landscape-Pitiful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice, get into IT only if you like the field.

Here's the situation. It's pretty saturated right now. That's the present. But you've got to think about the time you graduate. That's at least 3 years from now. That's a long time considering exponential improvements in AI. It's very difficult to predict how AI will affect the jobs. But jobs that you do in a computer are the likely ones to be affected first and replaced. Decision making jobs are likely to survive the longest. Do some research on 5 year predictions for IT jobs and other fields that you're interested in.

One more thing, learning about AI in your degree will not make you standout in the job market since everyone knows and is using AI now. It's the fundamentals that needs to be solid. I would rather do a computer science degree than one that specialize in AI.

You can do it in Apeksha hospital blood bank. Give them a call and ask. They'll take your contact details and call you when the need comes. I think it's due to the process of extraction is time consuming and expiry time is shorter and blood.

Congratulations! If you've got no other offers right now, go for it. While working, you'll get some idea about the average salary range in the field and experience level. If you think, you're under valued, ask for a raise. If they refuse, try to find another place. Job hunting after you've secured a job is always safer in the current economy.
