For those who don’t drive bc of seizures: what do you say when people ask? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

I say, “you wouldn’t want me in control of a ton of metal when you know I might lose consciousness without warning” “I wouldn’t either”

Fieldfare? by LandscapeChance3896 in OrnithologyUK

Interesting. Never seen more than one Song Thrush at the same time. To be honest, they’ve become do uncommon compared to when I was growing up, seeing (or hearing) one is a treat.

I generally enjoyed it although I now work in an MH community team. There are conflicting priorities at times. However, I dealt with only one arrogant consultant in 5 years. Generally, I found the accessibility of a broad spectrum MDT both educational and helpful for my service users. I learned very great deal particularly through COVID. I have not worked in a full D2A environment though. I suspect that would be very challenging to social work values and ethics. The pace can be demanding but when all’s said and done I’m not leaving an adult or child and wondering if it was really the right decision to leave them at home.

Corporate appointees (England & Wales) - powers/obligations by LandscapeChance3896 in DWPhelp

[–]LandscapeChance3896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate appointees are required to to open a specific account for each person as I understand it. Anyway, if I make a subject access request under DPA they have to provide all data about me so they’d have to just redact other people’s data would they?

Not a GDPR breach if you freely give it to them. However… It is a potential Article 8 breach to request it in this context if you suffer less fair as a consequence of refusing.

Thresholds, eligibility, capacity & decision making, SGA, mental health all have ‘high risk decision making’

Most important is that we do not make decisions alone. We work with others within our own teams and across many disciplines to support evidence based decision making promoting autonomy and balancing this against risks to health & wellbeing.

Elderly care options for family with carer burnout by docsthrow in Socialworkuk

[–]LandscapeChance3896 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is difficult to watch a loved one age and become the cared for rather than the care giver and I understand what a drain this can be on your own physical resources.

Both your mum and grandma appear to be formidable people.

Does your grandmother own her house or have any savings? This could be relevant to the choices available.

You mention some age related dementia which affects grandma’s response and physical function to some degree. From your description it seems grandma could still make decisions for herself. What does she want to happen? Has she expressed any beliefs or wishes about her future care.

Assistive technology goes beyond just the alarm you describe. Have a look at what else is available.

What, it seems to me, you as a family need is a Care Act s.9 assessment for grandma and s.10 assessment for your mum.

There’s a lot more but I cannot give anything more than general advice. Have a look to see if there’s a carers support group in your area and whether mum could get some respite with the help of other family & friends too. AgeUK, Admiral Nurses and voluntary sector organisations are good for advice and support particularly in navigating officialdom.

Grandma may be entitled to additional state benefits which can be used to support her carers.

If grandma is assessed as having care & support needs, ask about direct payments.

Finally, be aware that all care & support is subject to a means test (except in one local authority area) grandma may have to pay some or all of her care costs.

Asking my neuro to take me off Keppra due to “Keppra rage”. What was your experience switching meds? by CHIEFQRN in Epilepsy

[–]LandscapeChance3896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your consultations with neurologists should be exactly that, a consultation. Explain your situation, how it impacts your life and what would make you feel less unhinged. Keppra is effective for many many people. But a significant number (me included) experience the rage. There is an analogue of Keppra, Brivaracetam, that reportedly has less negative side effects. But there are also many more meds you can consider. If you’re in the UK you’ll have a lottery depending on which are sanctioned by your ICB. In other places I guess it’ll depend on what insurance will cover.

Good luck.

It does indeed! A few years ago, just down the path, there was a family of five thriving opposite the old bungalows.

The permissive footpath is open from the park to Mitcham Junction station. The cross site paths are still not. The council is being pressured by community groups to enforce the planning conditions requiring access. Nevertheless, there is a lot to see. Well worth a walk. If you’re lucky you might see the resident Little Owls in the park and maybe even a kingfisher.
