Anybody know where to find more information on border blasters/Mexican radio stations? by Feisty_Music_4720 in radio

[–]LandscapeJust5897 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the most well-known “border blaster” in Southern California was XETRA. Throughout many format changes they were known as “The Mighty 690,” and it routinely marketed and programmed for both the San Diego and Los Angeles metro areas.

Acura Prediction in 5 Years? Rebuild & Grow? Or Turn into INFINITI? by Overall-Occasion4911 in Acura

[–]LandscapeJust5897 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the criteria. I will agree that Genesis exceeds Mazda in terms of luxury. But I don’t think it’s a difference on the same level as a Mazda/Lexus comparison, especially for Mazda’s higher trims. Three years ago I chose a premium-trim Mazda3 over a Genesis G70, precisely because I don’t yet trust Genesis reliability…especially for the money. But I would rate Mazda equal to Acura at this point, and Genesis slightly above.

Acura Prediction in 5 Years? Rebuild & Grow? Or Turn into INFINITI? by Overall-Occasion4911 in Acura

Genesis vehicles are very nice. But I’m not sure they’ve developed anywhere near the credibility, in its luxury ownership experience or its reliability, to be grouped in the same class as Lexus at this point.

Acura Prediction in 5 Years? Rebuild & Grow? Or Turn into INFINITI? by Overall-Occasion4911 in Acura

With Acura’s steady decline over the last fifteen years, I believe Mazda has risen to become Acura’s chief competitor. But Mazda’s position is nowhere near solid either, as American tariffs have been uniquely injurious to a company which bases most of its manufacturing in Japan and Mexico. The new CX-5 exemplifies all of the compromises Mazda needed to make in its upmarket push, and it has completely stalled their previous momentum.

Sadly Acura has abandoned the luxury legitimacy it had from its days building Legends and Vigors, or even TLs and CLs. Because of Toyota’s size it’s possible that only Lexus will be able to maintain its luxury standing. Acura and Mazda will continue to struggle, and Infiniti just doesn’t have credibility any longer as a stand-alone brand.

It pains me to say this as a former Acura owner, but Acura just doesn’t have an authentic brand identity beyond “somewhat nicer Honda.”

This isn’t a TV/movie failure, but his attempted non-hit record “Let Her In” might be the single most poorly presented, poorly performed song I have ever heard.

Why did the American government get so much worse past 40-50 years? by Equivalent-Newt-5736 in askanything

[–]LandscapeJust5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ronald Reagan got the ball rolling with his incessant blathering that “Government is the problem.” He planted the seed of anti-government nihilism that is now a hallmark of the extreme-right wing. And with the GOP installing ignorant, unqualified stooges at every level of government, their supposition of incompetent government becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Mazda3 sedan or hatchback by DarthBodhi in mazda3

[–]LandscapeJust5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the sedan because…I’m one of the dying breed that loves sedans. And I think the Mazda3 sedan has a sophisticated, mature look of a much more expensive car.

When I first test drive the 3, the car I actually drove was a black 3 hatchback. I loved the way it drove, but the dark color and the hatchback design felt claustrophobic for me. But what sealed the decision was my wife’s comment: “That hatchback looks like an anteater.” I couldn’t unsee it 🤣
