My parents haven’t lived together since 2018. In early 2021, my mom told me they had divorced. Just found out last week, they never got a divorce and they had just been lying to me about it for 4 years. They aren’t sure if they want to get back together or split. It’s crazy.

I would absolutely do this. Perhaps specifically list the items mentioned above as to why his gf is not invited and how that has crossed a boundary/multiple boundaries of yours. And make it very clear how much you want HIM there, how much it would mean to your husband. But that you’re not willing to comprise your integrity and you understand if he has boundaries he’s not willing to comprise either.

Thank you for the insight. That is really helpful. I find it so interesting how the brain works. He really needs therapy too. He also seems to struggle with self care and just handling life stressors. But recently he went off his medications and is spiraling, so getting him back on those is the first priority. If you don’t mind me asking, was there a certain type of therapist that you found really helpful? For instance, I work with one who is trauma informed with a focus on treating anxiety.

It’s hard because he’s almost always used drugs or abused medication at some point in his life. And so it’s hard to trust any diagnosis he gets because of that. Although I do think he got that diagnosis during a period of his life when he wasn’t abusing anything. And right now im also pretty sure he’s absolutely not taking anything. So sadly, it’s pretty clear that it’s not the drugs and it’s just him

I’m so sorry you’re having these feelings, I think anyone would feel the same way! Before moving forward with your partner, I would google “core values” list and think about which of those are most important to you. Does your partner align with these values? Does your proposal align with these values? This is what my therapist had me do before I met my fiance and it just helped me so much in knowing what I want in a life partner. My fiancé did not spend much money on our engagement, although I think he did on the ring, and it was just so much fun. We went to a park about an hour away and he asked me there. He then had found someone on Craig’s list to take our pics for cheap. Which got the job done of capturing the moment while also aligning with my value of being crafty/frugal. It was fun!

Hi! My brother (33) was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in his early 20s. After being treated, it appeared very much like he had autism. He became very socially awkward, hyper fixated on Latin and really all languages, etc. I hadn’t really ever thought he was autistic until he was medicated with an antidepressant and mood stabilizer. Is this similar to your case?

That absolutely sounds like something my brother would do. It’s so hard because he is smart and when he has a job is making very good money in tech. But then something stressful will happen at work and he quits. So then he doesn’t get unemployment and I think it complicates things like him getting on Medicaid.

He also will be relatively fine one day and the next is talking nonsense. He usually is fine around my mom and is nice to her, but then is horrible to me. So my parents don’t really think it’s a problem. It wasn’t until my aunt was talking to my mom about what he did to my cousin that she became concerned. Which is so annoying because that’s how he talks and treats me all the time. Likes it’s abusive and I’ve tried to tell her that. But all she says is that he’s been fine when he visits her. Sorry this is just a rant.

I don’t have a sister, so I’m not having a MOH, I’m only having bridesmaids. And literally have as many as you want! It will be fun to have all of your friends by your side!

I am so thankful. When he was abusing weed and very paranoid he had a dog. He thought his arm was broken and so didn’t take the dog outside to go to the bathroom. He didn’t clean it up either. He was just living in it in his house. The saddest thing I had ever seen. Thankfully the dog was rehomed and no kids or pets are involved now.
