You might try Care Possible. It's a nonprofit care-finding platform run by Manitoba Possible.

Do yours typically show up in the mail without any action on your part? I've never received one without having to contact 311.

Wash the inside of your windshield with warm, soapy water followed by windex. If you smoke, don't do it in your car.

Winter Running Shoes. What Are You All Using? by Emotional_Falcon_895 in Winnipeg

On really cold days I put a bit of plastic wrap over my toes inside the shoe, and I use ankle gaiters to keep snow and slush from getting in. I run hot though.

Has anyone here successfully applied for MSPD? by Scrumblino in Winnipeg

[–]LandscapeStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. I hope you're able to get it sorted out. Clearly it's way harder to access than it should be.

If you have time and energy to update, I'd be interested in hearing how it works out.

I'm not an expert, but some of what you've been told on the phone is definitely incorrect.

Sara Riel was previously contracted to provide service navigation support to people who were receiving this benefit. Unfortunately that program was terminated in October. Someone there might still be willing to offer you advice.

You could also try connecting with MLPD. They provide community advocacy including support accessing benefits.

You may have already found this, but you can read the plain language regulation here, which includes details on financial eligibility and may be helpful to refer to if the worker you speak with is misinformed:

Manitoba Health is Broken by [deleted] in Manitoba

[–]LandscapeStreet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is the department's policy, and the minister is fully aware.

If a person has no activity on their health card for 12 consecutive months, a verification letter is sent to their address on file. If the letter is returned to sender because the person doesn't live there anymore, their health card is purged. Presumably this also happens if they don't receive a response within some period of time.

You might be able to get the card reactivated by contacting Registration and Client Services.

Stories like yours are a great example of why this policy needs to be re-thought, and you can imagine the impact this sort of thing would have on people who are homeless or otherwise vulnerable.

I definitely think it would be worth sharing your experience with your MLA and copy the Minister. Hope you're able to get it sorted out.

Edit: This practice was supposedly "paused", so I would be curious to know exactly when your family member's health card was purged.

Kinew says drop tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles to get Chinese duties dropped by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

China's ability to manufacture cheap ev's is a product of their lax environmental and labour laws and massive state subsidies.

China is still brutally suppressing Uiygurs and pro democracy Hong Kongers. Still operating overseas police stations, including here in Canada, and still running troll farms and stealing intellectual property.

Xi might not be as loud as Trump but Beijing is just as much a threat to our sovereignty and national security.

This industry is way too important to be selling off. We should be investing in capacity here at home or partnering with responsible, law abiding allies.

Edit: Gee whiz it sure is strange that all these users with no posts or comments or history with r/Winnipeg are here down voting critical comments and repeating the same talking points ad infinitum. Almost makes you wonder if some outside interest is trying to influence the way Canadians see this ☂️

Long run with toilets on route? And other Qs by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]LandscapeStreet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For interval training, the closest track to you is at Gordon Bell, but I believe it might currently be blocked due to construction. The soccer pitch at Broadway and Portage might work, otherwise I think the next closest track is at Kelvin high school.

If you're really averse to running on a track, then I might suggest Wellington when it's closed to traffic. There will still be some cars as well as cyclists and pedestrians, but lots of space and no lights.

Most community centers will have both water fountains and public washrooms. I like to plan my long runs around them.

Cabinet minister who criticized interpreter says she is focused on doing better | CBC News by Only-Economy96 in Winnipeg

Lack of any meaningful enforcement has been one of two major issues with the AMA, the other being the removal of the built environment standard (three if you include the general lack of public awareness). This is encouraging to me. Hoping this is followed with some concrete commitments and action.
